Last time Hakuho lost on the opening day was the only time since 2007 he hasn't secured at least the jun-yusho.

He's not quite Ozeki material yet with an opening like that.

On another note which Asashosakari hinted in the promotion/demotion thread, Tokushoryu is also credited with a Jun-Yusho. Seems somewhat overvalued compared to Harumafuji and Kisenosato's 11-4's, but what the hey, right? It's also only the 6th time in history that a M16 is credited with a Jun-Yusho. The last two times were Baruto and Toyohibiki....interestingly, they were both awarded the Kanto-sho. Side point/query: How often is it that only the Kanto-sho has been awarded?‹‹

It would seem to me that both Goeido and Kotoshogiku are in danger of going make-koshi and being placed on kadoban. Each still has the five other Yokozuna/Ozeki to face (including each other), and current form........

Not the best looking kinboshi one has ever seen, but I suppose it gets the job done....

Hi all, A random question. Does anyone know of a management sim style game for Sumo. Either in the "Play as a rikishi" style or a "manage a heya" style? (In Japanese or English). I have been searching but struggling to find one...

Who would you put to Komusubi instead? Aminishiki? I suppose the question is which is luckier - a extra three ranks promotion for an 8-7, or a 4 rank demotion for a 4-11 (that follows consecutive 9-6's in Juryo before). It does seem a line-ball one though - no real good answer.

So, using some of Asashosakari's predictions from Day 14 and looking at some of the way banzuke have been organised in the past (on a very ad-hoc basis), I have put together a possible Makuuchi banzuke for the November Basho (see below). The following assumptions have been made: 1. Where possible, to line up rikishi according to the numbers 2. Where numbers don't work precisely, give precedence to the rikishi with the greatest number of sanyaku-ranked bouts/harder schedule (one exception, see below) 3. Precedence given to promoting more than expected relative to demoting less than expected 4. Precedence given to the rikishi with the better recent performance in makuuchi (I don't know whether these assumptions are the most relevant, but they seem logical to me). Highlighted in red are any estimations involving a promotion or demotion that is 2 or further different to the expected promotion/demotion based on the numbers. Explanations for each are written below the banzuke: Exp = Expected movement (based on win-loss record) Act = Actual predicted movement Demoted rikishi: Kagamio (6-9 from M16) Tokitenku (6-9 from M16) Homasho (Kyujo from M13) Azumaryu (Kyujo from M14) Ikioi/Ichinojo – who gets the Komusubi and the Sekiwake slots seems a toss-up. Purely by the numbers, Ichinojo should get preference. However, Ikioi defeated Ichinojo and has been unlucky in previous banzuke with good records at M5 (10-5) and M6 (11-4). Ichinojo has only shown one tournament of performance in Makuuchi, so I’ve given Ikioi the higher placement. Toyohibiki - M5 (8-7) (+1/+3) – A little bit of luck and the performance of surrounding wrestlers means there is no one else remotely qualified to be promoted to M2, so Toyohibiki gets a bit of a lucky nudge. Okinoumi - M15 (10-5) (+5/+8) – 3 consecutive losses to high performing rikishi in the last three days do not take away from an excellent basho, and Okinoumi seems more deserving of the extra nudge than the 4 wrestlers immediately below him (3 make-koshis and a Juryo promotion) Shohozan - M7 (6-9) (-3/-1) – Gets a little lucky, on the basis that he faced a tougher schedule than Homarefuji and Sadanoumi beneath him. Sadanoumi - M12 (8-7) (+1/+3) – Also in the fortunate pile, with a greater than expected promotion, due to facing a tougher schedule than Homarefuji below him. Chiyomaru M11 (4-11) (-7/-5) and Sadanofuji M12 (4-11) (-7/-4) – Sadanofuji especially gets extremely lucky, as no more than four Juryo rikishi put in a promotable performance (Kotoyuki’s 8-7 from J4 doesn’t seem enough). Basically, these two probably should have been demoted on the numbers, but underperformance in the J2-4 ranks save them. Thoughts?

My (admittedly very amateur) brain thinks that either a match-up with Aminishiki (as the highest performing other Maegashira at 10-3 (Okinoumi is ranked too low)) or Takekaze (as Sekiwake who will have the motivation of either maintaining his sanyaku spot from 6-8, or maintaining his sekiwake from 7-7) would be the two logical options for Ichinojo on Day 15. Unless they also want to put him up against Kotoshogiku. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tochnioshin vs Kyokutenho on Day 15 (or is there a hard rule that they won't bring up the same Juryo rikishi more than once?)

No problem I reckon. It's simply a very bold strategy to take in your first bout against an Ozeki and a Yokozuna respectively. It shows confidence and daring (and possibly some very cunning strategy). I would doubt he'll try it again with Hakuho, but who knows? On another note: I would postulate Ichinojo is probably a shoe-in for the Kanto-sho and the Shukun-sho, but would have no idea about whether he would be considered for the Gino-sho given his kimarite.... thoughts?
