After watching the replay (thanks are always in order Mr. Kintamayama) several times, it is clear that Harumafuji did indeed stay inside the dohyo... ...

I do believe Goeido got ripped off. I don't have the luxury of replay but I swear I saw Fuji's foot outside the ring...

Thanks...

Can someone tell me what the head judge said on the decision to give Haru the match today (day 11)? Cause it looked like they both went out and fell at the exact same time to me. :-/

Most excellent defense on Takanoyama's part today (day 10) despite his loss. What a crowd pleaser he is. Despite the fact that many people don't appreciate his abilities (lots of henkas), his poise and respectful demeanor never ceases to impress me.

Man...I think Kotooshu inherited some serious injury issues after today's match against Toyonoshima.

Question About The Judges and Decision-Making Process

Thanks for the discussion everyone! I really appreciate the information. Even though the opinions expressed bye everyone are only conjecture, I feel like I have a much better understanding of what goes on during the monoii now. -
Question About The Judges and Decision-Making Process
Rōnin replied to Rōnin's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Thanks again, I didn't realize that rikishi could call for a monoii. So I'm understanding that they do a re-match when any one of the judges doesn't agree or when there is not enough evidence to call either way from the replay video. -
Forgive my newbie type question but I was wondering...is there a rank system among the seated judges? Do they have a "chief judge" like American baseball umpires have a "crew chief" (typically the most experienced member)? And I would like to follow that question into understanding the decision making process once they have a meeting on the dohyō. Are they simply deciding to overturn the call made by the Gyōji, or are they making a call in their own right. Then is the final decision made in a unanimous, a majority or simply just one judge disagreeing which can result in a "do over"? The Wikipedia article I read is not clear exactly how this works. Thanks...

Woo Hoo! Holla! :-D

I'll throw my vote in as well. I too thought Kakuryu had Kisenosato during the first bout...
-
Despite beginning appearances Baruto made Toyonoshima look a little silly in the end. Great day one...

Crowd went nuts during the Kakuryu Goiedo match! (Applauding...)

Thanks....

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what is up with Shohozan's back? He looks like he has all these round burn scars on him today and I have never noticed them there before.
