If you don`t care, why post? I don`t take any of this personally and dont mind either way. I dont mind if every bout is won in an exciting manner or not. Then again I enjoy cricket very much too.Probably says a lot about me. All the best. (Enjoying a beer...)

My money is on the fella with the most money. Isn`t that the way it works? :-D

I think it is close to pointless to argue the merits of henka. It is sumo as surely as the use of yotsu is sumo. Its a lot like saying it wasn`t yotsu(or any other technique)so it wasn`t good sumo. The use of henka often disapoints, as do other techniques. I think it needs to be remembered that there are two rikishi in every sumo bout. If a rikishi looses due to henka isn`t the loosing rikishi just as guilt? Which rikishi`s sumo is poorer?

Lets just say he moved in a manner so to avoid full contact.Call it henka or not.Thats what he did.(tochiazuma). Ship...Juryo`s on.seeya. All the best.

    Day9

Raiden was a freak for his day.Huuuugh!I understand. Wasn`t he barred from using tsuki so others stood a chance? I think Kaio could have been great. His style reminds me of Taiho except with many self inflicted mistakes thrown in and of course his egg like nature. Of course that should have been zeNsho.Typo...that time. :-D All the best.

    Playstation Sumo

Thx fella`s,(no sexism intended) I have Virtual Sumo and I enjoy it often. It`s a pity the majority of the western world can`t get over the predictable fatmen in nappies thing, they deny themselves so much.Oh well, more for me I guess,so to speak.Getting of topic a bit.thx again. All the best.

    some cheap commentary

How about Wakatoba?I think his sumo has been genki and dynamic. In a couple of matches he has left his more experienced opponent looking a little foolish. I always pay attention to his bouts. His style,to my eye,is full of surprises. One day at a time, lets see if he makes kachikoshi.I hope he remains in Makuuchi for a goodsom time yet. :-D No mocka intended...Touch wood.

I asked my Japanese inlaws about this one and they say henka. The fact that heads meet in no way effects the sideways motion used to avoid full contact. The screen shots shown display sideways motion.Infact it may indicates a poor henka attempt as the head could not avoid contact. The Japanese I talk with have not a problem with henka. It is an established sumo technique. The reason for the henka is more important.i.e. Is he using his greater mobility? Is he injured? Is he scared? e.t.c. Henka effects the percieved strength of a Yokozuna at that point in time and also for Ozeki striving for promotion. Its use by others is of little concern. All the best.

Why not a zesho-yusho for Asashoryu?Who will stop him?

Henka is an intrinsic part of sumo.Better to overcome and adapt to it because its always going to be used. It`s use normally dissapoints though. (Riding an ATV...)

BuBa,you misunderstand.(I probably could have put it better). Japanese show less emotion of anykind, particularly in public. It is one way the Japanese deal with such high populations in such a small inhabitable land mass.So if somebody always wears thier heart on thier sleeve ,in japan, it stands out. Mongolians are probably no more" ill tempered" as you would put it, than any other race. It`s not what I meant ,by a long-shot. All the best. (Riding an ATV...)

Didn`t your paper have Bush, now asking for U.N. intervention to fix up the mess in Iraq? Many sources did. In this day of monopolistic media ownership only a fool could think that we are presented with objective reporting. We can`t even mention Iraq freely in this forum with out upsetting. By the way, there is no need to be afraid. You can write, speak or think about Iraq with out being political. What exactly do you mean by "degenerating"?Is it a number of people stating opposing views with passion or do you mean people being offencive? This is a type of censorshop .If you don`t like a post pass it by.It happens all the time, normally, but expecting somebody not to use a polite voice on a particular issue is wrong in any place, especially if that place promotes free-speach. However I am here to discuss Sumo and enjoy doing so. I do not intend to ruffle to many feathers. For that very reason if anybody would like to continue this discussion please P.M. me. I think most have had enough, from all I can tell. I do not mean to insult or offend anybody. That is far from my motives here. Again,I am happy to defer. ;-)

I dont think Asashoryu could be termed "great" just yet.He is definently the best all round rikishi today and we all know he is by far the most aggressive. Its that aggression that gets him into a spot of bother now and then. Its fine on the dohyo but outside it must be curbed. The fate of Yokozuna who don`t keep it together off the dohyo is well documented. He needs to adopt that even temprement of the Japanese he now lives amoung. Also it may be fair to say that the standard today is not as high as during other periods.I haven`t been watching long enough to make an informed guess either way really but I can say this;Asashoryu probably would find the going much tougher if Takanohana or Akebono were still going strong.(If only we could alter time some way, hey? The match-up`s we could have.Oh boy my head spins). Only the passage of time can sort this one out. Anyway,Juryo matches are on and they don`t seem to be waiting for me. All the best.

    Chiyotaikai vs Kyokutenho

All good and fair comment Asashosakari,I wouldn`t question any of it. I will try GTB this time.See you there so to speak. ;-) All the best.

    Futagoyama Oyakata and Musoyama

I think any new rules should provide for greater motivation from stranded Ozeki. Tochiazuma has more than he is giving but its hardly worth his effort. The pay is almost the same for Tochi if he is kadoban every second basho or if he gets a 10-5 mark every basho and he is not in the running for promotion. So why go all out? The new rules should they come into effect only add to cruising in my humble opinion. ;-) All the best.

    Day 7 news

Chiyotaikai`s form seemed close to perfect in this match,to my eye anyway. Chiyo`s tachiai was fast.He lead with the head lifting his opponent`s head and shoulders so Chiyo could then land well timed and ideally placed tsuppari to Tokitsuumi`s upper chest.Chiyo`s hand motion was fast and furious and his koshi provided great power driving his position forward. Tokitsuumi didn`t stand a chance. Chiyotaikai at his best. Great sumo in this fella`s view. Chiyotaikai obviously enjoyed it too, judging from his reaction. All the best. ;-)

    Futagoyama Oyakata and Musoyama

I believe musoyama is saying that he fractured his elbow but kosho has not been granted.Seem suspect to me looking at his record, but who really knows? The kosho rules are still in the descussion stage I believe. All the best.

Asashoryu`s match, what happened? I`ll tell you what happened.Asashoryu easily won from the tachiai.Kotoryu simply couldn`t mount a defence at any piont and was swiftly forced, bum first, through his own position before finding himself on the wrong side of the tewara.Yorikiri. The english commentator for N.H.K. used almost identical words to those I have been using since beginning to post here when ever discussing Asashoryu`s performance, this basho. I say again; Asashoryu again showing why he is the best man in sumo today. I love it don`t you? (Ranting...)

    Web Stream

I was just thinking about the stream as I watch the N.H.K. braordcast of Juryo matces and it occured to me that in the past the broardcast normally starts with Machuuchi about 1600 tokyo time. How long has N.H.K. been showing Juryo from 1510 tokyo time and could it have something to do with the same coverage via the stream being axed? Just a spur of the moment thought. Any body with contacts out there? (Ranting...)

    Black-outs

Sorry, I thought that as we are off topic and mostly adults a little robust opinion(debate)wouldn`t make to many uneasy.I guess not and bow to the need for silence on some issues.I will try to keep my posts mostly politically sterile in the future.(I didn`t think I was being political, just stating facts I read in the paper). I was trying to make the piont that there is always somebody worse off than your self, though. In this case Iraqies. I retract any thing political so as not to cause offence. (Ranting...)
