Onosatons power is incredible...Even with a good maemitsu grip Hiradouli can't do nothing when Onosato decide to just move forward. Hoshoryu is undefeated but he always seems to be on the edge on his bouts. His acrobat's skills give him the win but until when? Aonishiki continues to impress me. Where is the limit for him?

At first i thought elbow injury but now see more a biceps tear because if Kirishimans Kimedashi

I'm surprised no one saw that Oho dislocated a finger on his left hand. He came out wincing. I hope it doesn't affect his basho. If it's put back in place right away and the ligaments aren't affected, it might...

I calculate the average number a rikishi per year. And for the first time since 1974, this number is under 600 for the year. The peak was in 1994 with 896 rikishi on average. Since 1996 the number is going down. A brief surge can be observe between 2014 and 2020 but since then it continues to go down. How can we explain that? The difficulty of a rikishi's life. Of course but also the quality of life and salary are better now and the money they can earn if they reach sekitori is not the main thing nowdays. I think we will continue to see less and less recruits. BUT the recruits are much more better because they come with a university or at least high school pedigree for the most part. Maybe allowing a second foreigner or even accept as much foreigners as much as a heya want can be a good idea. What do you think?

Hello all, does a magazine or book of the sumo year in review exist? I follow sumo since 2006 and i'm interested of any year in review since if it can be found somewhere. Thanks in advance !
-
All right then :) Btw sad to hear the news of Kitanofuji's death. I follow sumo since 2006 and he has always been a commentator. I love his sens of humour who was sometimes borderline. Rest in peace Yokozuna. He will find his friend Tamanoumi somewhere in heaven now.

I usually rate each rikishi's bout on a scale of 0 to 5. (Next basho i will do on a scale of 0 - 3 - easier). Here is the favorites (at least mine)" quality of sumo" ratings. Hoshoryu / O / 12-1 / 4.16 Kotozakura / O / 12-1 / 3.76 Daieisho / S / 7-6 / 3.53 Abi / M3 / 10-3 / 3.33 Wakatakakage / M2 / 9-4 / 3.30 Onosato / O / 8-5 / 3.23 Takerufuji / M16 / 8-5 / 3.08 Wakamotoharu / K / 8-5 / 2.69 Kirishima / S / 6-7 / 1.92 The biggest dissapointment is for Kirishima. I don't know if anything is wrong physically but he seems to lack power in some bouts. Very strange. The other one not doing as expected is Takerufuji. At M16, i thought he will cruise throught the first week but he did not. Maybe his sumo is becoming too predictable now. Daieisho is doing well. His losses to Wakatakakage and Atamifuji on day 2 and 3 hampered his basho. Wakatakakage is doing great but not against the Ozeki. He lost these 3 bouts very easily. And Abi punished him too. On the other hand Hoshoryu and Kotozakura are doing magnificent. I give the edge to Hoshoryu because of his fighting spirit. This time he has the eyes of a tiger going on.
-
No no no i'm not an AI! I just made a mistake by watching a wrong files. I watch my Ozeki file instead of the Yokozuna one. I'm almost immediatly deleted my post but it seems it went throught anyway. Sorry about that verybody.

So 6 guys either intai or going down. Takakeisho, Myogiryu, Aoiyama => Intai Oshoumi 6-9 at Juryo 14w down for sure. Chiyosakae 0-4-11 so basicaly 0-15 at Juryo 13w down for sure. So it's between Asanoyama 0-0-15 Juryo 3w or Kiryuko 4-11 Juryo 12w to go down. I'm thinking Asanoyama stay and Kiryuko to Makushita

Does someone know how many kensho received Takerufuji for his fantastic basho?

Paramedics to be available at honbasho

What if one of us had knowledge in the field? Weight is a secondary factor when treating an injury. They should find a solution to move them from the doyo when they are injured. It's not like it's 2024... First we treat the pain if it is unbearable. Secondly, we immobilize the injured limb and ESPECIALLY we do not move it unnecessarily/ Rolling Tsurugisho in this way is excruciating to see! As said above for Kinbozan, no one came to his side to see what happened! And it was at this moment that the medical presence was important and had to be rapid! Head/neck/back injuries should be taken very seriously! In short... nothing new unfortunately... -
Injury management drive me nuts... It's crazy... In what sport do you roll an athlete with a leg injury to move him? first we immobilize the leg with a splint. We give him painkiller, THEN we move him safely! Poor Tsurugisho... I had heard that since this basho medical staff were next to the doyo. Once again he was the last to arrive and... for nothing! Rather than attacking Hakuho, the NSK would do better to look in the mirror regarding the health of their rikishi... Everybody talks about the lack of shin-deshi. If i was interested about joiging Ozumo, this kind of problem can push me in other directions for sure...

We don't see Roga often. Iknow sekitori can leave outside or in a private room but we almost never see him interact with the others members. This channel is incredibly good, all these rikishi are very nice and gentle !

How to handle injured rikishi (split from Hatsu 2024 discussion)
kedevash posted a topic in Ozumo Discussions
Unfortunately I think Hokutofuji blew out his knee. ACL maybe. This would mean several months of absence if he takes care of himself correctly.... I take this opportunity to give my opinion on the NSK's injury management which is terrible. How many rikishi have had their careers shattered by having to continue fighting injured. We must give them time to recover from their injury! On the contrary, some who took the time to heal came back stronger. Terunofuji, Tochinoshin, Ura... Recovery time without loss of ranking really needs to be reinstated. Less jungyo would also be beneficial. Otherwise the rikishi never stop!! But the rearguard management of the NSK will surely do nothing as usual... -
An extremely interesting basho. The race for Yusho is wide open! I don't see Terunofuji winning. I just hope he finishes with an honorable score. Hoshoryu with his injury will also have difficulty winning the cup. For me the serious contenders are Kirishima who with his motivation to become Yokozuna will be hard to beat, but Kotonowaka, Asanoyama and Onosato all three seem very solid. Daieisho is also in the race. I hope Hokuseiho's injury isn't too serious. Above all, I think that this will be beneficial for his career in the sense that he may have to change his style and evolve in his sumo. At his age I think he will recover completely and will have the opportunity for a new start because he seemed to have hit a wall recently. Atamifuji started the basho badly but he recovered well by fighting opponents more within his reach. He shows great mental strength after his defeats at the start of the basho. Takayasu seems truly cursed. Anyway.... Midorifuji is really awesome! What energy! What technique. Really great to watch. Gonoyama encounters difficulties against the top rikishi. ! They were able to study his sumo and find solutions to his powerful charges. To finish Aiyama is gone I think. Myogiryu and Takarafuji seem near the end...

How to handle injured rikishi (split from Hatsu 2024 discussion)
kedevash replied to kedevash's topic in Ozumo Discussions
I get what you're saying. But they can also take a basho out without losing rank and just train at the heya to get back to rythm. At the moment the vaste majority of rikishi come back too early from injury. All due to the lost of ranks. -
Yes thanks you for the daily report ! Is there a way to see the full kensho list, not just the top 10?
-
What a day ! I didn't expect Asanoyama to come back victorious. He was able to resist Takakeisho's pressure despite his injury. Tsuna inexorably moves away for Takakiesho... Hoshoryu also falls but this time due to his own fault. Too much aggression without thinking about his feet. Gonoyama.. What can I say? Fantastic.. His pushing and thrusting and his tachi-ai are devastating and his confidence is growing more and more. Daieisho is sinking... Too bad... Just like Wakamotoharu who seems lost... Atamifuji is recovering and it's nice. Churanoumi continues his superb rookie basho. Ichiyamamoto continues to ride the wave of his last Juryo basho. Being in the lead after 8 days is no small thing. How far will he be able to keep the same pace. To see, but I don't believe in a yusho.
-
And win at the right bouts. Some wins can give you nothing and other can be gold !
-
I'm very surprised to see that Wakamotoharu doesn't have a lot of kensho for his bout. It seems to me that he is a popular wrestler but not for the sponsors... Just to give you an idea of the money they made. Kirishima won around 87 000$ of kensho. Wakamotoharu around 8 000$ and the poor Tamawashi just 600$...
-
Tsurugisho seems to be a new man. His injuries seem to be gone and he can show his true potential now. As for Nishikigi, he is a really late bloomer. Both of them will not make past sanyaku for sure but now, they are a two forces to be reckoned with
-
His foot is there to be trip. And with his uprightstance you don't need a lot to make him fall. His defense is tremendous but this sotogake is a key to beat him.
-
You are wrong... he injured himself before falling off. His knee bukkle during his last step.
