  1. No, as I remember in the final boot several years ago he also lost to the older grand champion - Baterdene, who reached quterfinals this year despite his age and MP status...
  2. he is a titan (grand champion - dayan avarga).
  3. Asashoryu's elder brother Sumyabazar lost in the final boot to the acting champion Usuhbayar on July, 12. Sumya lost his 4th chance to be promoted to Lion(=ozeki) and to win the championship wich takes place once a year. He has to try again after 12 months... http://www.mongolnews.mn/main.php?Module=G...hotoUzeh&Pid=45
  4. (Smoking pipe...) hope that you are kidding... amgaa99 is yokozuna! but amuga is a new reqruit :-O
  5. Thanks Naganoyama, Amgaa was one of my favorie wrestlers. Let's see what his son inherited from him. His shikona is japanese version of his fathers name, hm... strange
  6. Anybody knows his real name and the name of his father?
  7. I haven't seen the game (I am away from my home country) and noticed on the photo that Asa's number was 68... (Nodding yes...)
  8. quality of photo is not good but...
  9. Basketball game between mongolian sumo wrestlers and mongolian national wrestlers took place in Ulaanbaatar Wrestling Palace, on May, 25. Sumo basketball team members: yokozuna Asashoryu(captain), Hakuho, Asasekiryu, Ama, Tokitenku, Ryuo, Daiki. Coach: grand champion Munkhbat(Hakuho's father and Olympic silver medalist). National wrestlers' team: grand champion(=yokozuna) Sukhbat (acting champion), lion(= ozeki) Munkh-Erdene, phoenix(=sekivake) Sumiyabazar(Asashoryu's elder brother), phoenix Gantogtokh(Coach's son), = komusubi Bayarjavkhlan, maegashira Gankhuyag. Coach: grand champion Bayanmunkh (former World champion, Olympic silver medalist). Sumo team was leading through all quaters(6 min each) but national wrestlers recovered by the end of game and were able to tie the score. 48 seconds before the end Hakuho and Ama managed to score 6 points. Sumo team won - 39:35
  10. Mongolians shave their kids' hair at the age of 2 or 3. The celebration ( (Being thrown tomatoes at...) which is similar to danpatsu-shiki) is called "hair party".
  11. Anybody have information about the basketball game between Mongolian Rikishi and high-ranked traditional wrestlers? It was supposed to take place on 25th of May in Ulaanbaatar.
  12. If Asa said that only 5% of his skills and power came from his natural ability-he lied. More than 50% of his wrestling ability was inborn. I think that any Mongolian teenager can reach sandanme with some effort. And Mongolians wrestle well not only because they are hungry... Wrestling is the most popular sport in Mongolia and it is considered an honour to become a wrestler. I can confidently say that there are much more stronger and "hungrier" wrestlers in Mongolia. Asa and Hakuho are just examples... Again: genetic predisposition 55% and environment+training 45%
  13. Kyokshuzan is doing better in business rather than sumo. I have seen him on TV literally saying that his purpose is succeed in his business and to stay in Makuuchi for a while, preventing himself from injuries. Which means he is not training well and is not doing his best. But his construction projects and "Kyokushuzan development" fund is doing quite well. So I do not think that he really cares about the stolen money, but the good luck thing, which I guess is the ankle bone of a wolf... Maybe not. Mongolian men believe that if you steel this bone from someone it brings you even more luck.
  14. Second Part of Wedding. From left to right: 1. Asashoryu's elder brother Blue Wolf - Serjbudee 2. Tamiraa 3. Morning Blue Dragon 4. Pretty Girl
  15. Asashoryu's wedding in Mongolia.
  16. First, welcome to the forum! Second, the fact that Asashoryu is Mongolian does not mean he's any more genetically related to Genghis/Chinggis than half the Asia and parts of Europe - with spreading of (truly amazingly large) Mongolian empire, some of "Mongolian" genes undoubtedly got mixed in the local population, and there have been quite a few centuries between Genghis and Asashoryu... (BTW, did you know that humans as a species are incredibly homogeneous genetically? Two humans regardless of their race are on average more closely related, that is share more genetic material, than two chimps, or two lions...) Thrid, I don't think anyone on this forum has problems with Asashoryu's origins... in fact, you've been mostly "arguing" with your compatriots in this thread. Fourth, I better quit while I still make sense... :-P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for wellcoming, I think my "problem" is that I am a geneticist. (In a state of confusion...) In 2002 I studied genetic polymorphisms in mongolian population and tried to compare with some other asian poulations. Now I am more involved in cell biology rather than structural genomics. And I would like to apologize for some "nationalistic" ideas. Maybe I just wanted to attract peoples' attention ;-) Of course the origin of Asa is not that important. LET'S ENJOY SUMO!
  17. Can you provide significant genealogical documents proving (patrilineal, or matrilineal) that Asashoryu is a direct descendant of the monarch? Yes? No? Then, please, avoid this cheap trick. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hope that you are not going to say that Asa and Chinggis are not Mongolians? Maybe you know that members of certain ethnic groups and nationalities differ slightly in terms of genetic structure. I am trying to say that these 2 guys are related to each other. Of course Asa is not a grandson of Chinggis... :-/ they are both from khakha mongolian ethnic group.
  18. That is the most stupid movie I have ever seen. I don't know any khans with such a non-mongolian face.
  19. I don't see anybody who is able to stop him. It is obvious that he is the best sumotori today. I do not know what you have against Chinggis Khan, but could you name me another ruler who was able to conquer a bigger territory than he did? I am not saying that Asashoryu invaded Japan. I am trying to point to the genetic relationship between these two warriors
  20. It is Kaiho! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course not Kaiho. I think that you are not asians and have difficulties with recognizing asian faces. If that guy(I have no idea who) is Kaiho: Musashimaru is Akebono. :-P
  21. we don't have a smarter one to become a yokozuna yet. so you have to watch this stupid sumo... and this unbeatable "stupid" descendant of Chinggis Khan
  22. But the best and the lightest rikishi today is Ama! But I think he is on his way to gain another 15 kgs. From former "lightweighters" Kotonishiki was the smartest...
