  1. Asashosakari, thank you for posting the videos! ;-)
  2. I appreciate the information. Which countries are in each camp?
  3. I wonder what the lawsuit is alleging?
  4. It'll be interesting watching him gain weight over time. Silicon implant? Really? I heard it happened but who actually did it?
  5. When someone with little money, has the enticement of easily obtaining it dangled before them, they're easily swayed to conjure up enticing tales regardless of how untruthful or damaging. >:-(
  6. Yes, other than the statement from the shop owner, they have no provenance. I expressed my interest to the shop owner in contacting the old man, to find out about his Sumo history & that of the kesho-mawashis, but he didn't have his contact information. You're correct about them being 'bobbles', as opposed to bells, along the bottom braid. It's unfortunate to have to part with them, but life is full of cycles & I'm confident that I'll eventually come across another opportunity... as for the IRS, I'll refrain from turning this into a political opinion(s) thread.
  7. P.S. I offered them for the same amount that I paid. I don't know their true value, but when I purchased them, I considered them a great find.
  8. They may cost in the millions now, but not 50+ years ago. I'm not even certain that it was from a professional level Rikishi... I hope you're not trying to imply that I'm being decietful.
  9. I may be able to help but I'm a slightly confused about the color-coded list you're trying to retrieve. In what format is it saved?
  10. I feel that because of the few unfortunate & isolated incidents, Riksihi with personal grudges or who blame their Oyakata for their own failings, ride the wave & resort to these type of irresponsible accusations. When I competed in freestyle wrestling, I was grateful when the coach singled me out or was tougher on me, because it showed his interest & meant that he believed that I could do/be better... & he was an %$@! These Rikishi need to stop whining & either start paddling or get off the boat. >:-(
  11. Yes, I didn't notice his age until after the stroke. I've read & agree that it was thanks to him that Rock & Roll became acceptable/bearable to the older generation of the time.
  12. Hello, I hope it's alright to post this here. A while back, I purchased a couple of vintage kesho-mawashi from an antique shop in Kumamoto, Japan. I asked the owner where he acquired them & he said, "Old man in my town bring them to my shop. He was a sumo wrestler when he was young." They must've been very nice when new. The patterns remind me of waves, they have braiding & small bells along the bottom. They're quite old now, have a few loose threads, a couple of small holes & some staining. Anyway, because of having to pay the IRS this year, I'm forced to part with some of my vintage collection. If someone here is interested in these kesho-mawashi, I'll let them go for $50 each shipped. Otherwise, I'll simply list them on an online auction site. Thank you, Victor P.S. I tried to upload a 48kb picture, but the maximum size allowed is a ridiculous less than 20kb. Contact me & I'll be glad to send a picture. Thanks again.
  13. Yes, I'm aware that Fukunosato is not an Oyakata & that he assists with newer Rikishi. I may be mistaken, but I used the term Toshiyori to refer to someone that's an elder & respected. Is this not a proper use of the term? I would appreciate the correction. Orion, is the article that you referred to still available for reading? Do you know anything about Daigen? Thanks to you & Naganoyama for sharing your knowledge!
  14. Correction/Mistype: I didn't mean to refer to Tatsutayama Oyakata. I meant, is Kunio Fukuda Toshiyori (Fukunosato) still at Michinoku-beya?
  15. Sooo... does anyone in Japan follow the Sumo-beyas & able/willing to please answer regarding Daigen?? Also, is Tatsutayama Toshiyori still at Michinoku-beya?
  16. I'm not aware of clubs in your area, but contact Packy Bannevans ( packy@mindspring.com ) & he should be able to help.
  17. I'll read it. Thank you. It'll be truly appreciated if anyone with information as to why Daigen retired will please post it.
  18. I realize that I'm sorta late, but I recently stumbled onto an article that mentioned one or two Rikishi from Michinoku-beya being forced to retire due to the match fixing scandal. In searching further, I found that Toyozakura, Jumonji, Hakuba & Kirinowaka retired in May 2011. I'm aware that they retired because of a scandal, but was it the match fixing scandal? Most stunningly, I also discovered that Daigen retired at the same time. I didn't find anything that referenced him being involved in a scandal. Why did he retire at such a young age? :-|
  19. This is awesome!!!
  20. I wish that I could watch the film. :-(
  21. This documentary is an insight into Sumo from a seemingly interesting perspective. Who is familiar with this film? I searched the forum but didn't find mention of it. I read elsewhere that there's a torrent to download it, but I couldn't find it either. Thank you. http://www.andanafilms.com/catalogue.php?lang=en&action=setcookieα=&typeAlpha=&rub=&idFiche=1087&display=fiche

  23. I found the answer!! http://www.sumoreference.com/Rikishi.aspx?r=11911
  24. I was reading about various Rikishi & I came across the attached picture. I'm aware that he's from Arashio-beya, but will someone please let me know if he's Hiroshi Yu? If so, will you please provide a brief biography or a link to it? Thank you.
  25. Thanks again, Yubinhaad! (Bow...)
