  1. Since I've made my guess and won't be changing it (hopefully!) I'm a little worried seeing as I managed to have Kotooshu at M8W while everyone seemed to struggle to get him above M10 (going by reading this)... is there something I might have messed up on or not known about? Also, how likely would it be for Kotomitsuki to get M1W? EDIT: I tried something different, and Kotooshu turned up in M13W
  2. *Changes around Shimotori and Kotomitsuki* I can never guess correctly, so I'm trying to give myself as many rules as possible to follow. :) Here's my guess for the banzuke... I didn't plan to give Kotooshu a bonus until Asashosakari mentioned it, but he ended up higher than the differential put him. I don't know how to do the code that the others do, or how it works, so I'll just copy and paste from the Excel file I was using. Asashoryu Y Kaio O Chiyotaikai Musoyama O Tochiazuma Wakanosato S Miyabiyama Kyokutenho K Kokkai Hakuho M1 Shimotori Kotomitsuki M2 Iwakiyama Tamanoshima M3 Tochinonada Asasekiryu M4 Tosanoumi Toyozakura M5 Dejima Takamisakari M6 Kakizoe Takekaze M7 Hokutoriki Tokitsuumi M8 Kotooshu Kaiho M9 Kotoryu Futenho M10 Jumonji Byuzan M11 Hayateumi Kotonowaka M12 Tamakasuga Takanowaka M13 Otsukasa Kyokushuzan M14 Tochisakae Roho M15 Aminishiki Toyonoshima M16 Takanotsuru Kasugao M17 Knowing what I'm like, I'll probably change a few things as soon as someone says something.
  3. And so begins the "arguments" about who should be promoted to the final Komusubi place each basho... I've told myself not to look at the others' predictions in the other thread, but I've now got to decide the final Komusubi place between Kokkai, Shimotori or Hakuho. Do the kyokai look at the matches between them as a guideline as well? Because Hakuho beat both Kokkai and Shimotori at the last basho. One more thing... with rikishi coming up and some going down, if they land on the same rank (differential-wise) are the KK or the MK rikishi given preference? Or is it a mix depending on their results from the basho?
  4. I see where I went wrong with my first sentence... (I was trying to say something like 1 half rank for 8 wins, 2 for 9 etc). Now it makes sense how Miyabiyama could get to Sekiwake with 12-3... What about something with someone who missed some of the basho through injury, would someone with a 1-3-11 record lose 2 ranks? (That was my Toto record last time out) *Rushes off to restart GTB workings-out* So the reason that there are always problems sorting out the final "Who's going to be Komusubi and M1" is because of the groupings that happen around that area with the Sekiwake/Komusubi losses and Maegashira wins? Is there also some extra set of rules with demoting? Sekiwake and Komusubi only take up one rank space, or more depending on the number of rikishi in those slots? Free sanyaku slots (just so I'm clear...) 2 Yokozuna/Ozeki 2 Sekiwake 2 Komusubi Is that right? Also, thanks for your reply, it's made this a lot clearer. (In a state of confusion...)
  5. Didn't Goodridge retire last year or something? Or have I confused him with someone else?
  6. I read somewhere that the general rule for promotions is one half-rank for each win above KK, or something like that. (eg: 10-5 would get you a 3 half-rank rise)... but after reading the summary and predictions from Doitsuyama here, it seems that it's not that clear cut... J8 up to Ms?? with an 11-4 or Miyabiyama up to SW from M7 with a 12-3. What else confused me in that summary was the idea of "free sanyaku slots"... when are ranking slots free? And how many rikishi are supposed to be in sanyaku? I know the whole Makuuchi is supposed to hold 42 (I think).
  7. There's a kimarite called harimanage? *Runs off to find description* If we could see what they are saying, then it would be a great help. I'm assuming that you're the only person here with the game, so we wouldn't be able to see these matches that you are talking about. I'm sure that as soon as those screens go up, loads of people here would be able to help you... as they know a lot more Japanese than me, and some are completely fluent. *Cue envy*
  8. Yes, the reason I put the link to the game was so that others might recognise it, or even have it stored away somewhere in their attic. I've seen some places that have FAQs where the game is translated, but I couldn't find one in my search for that particular game. Maybe it's too old now or something that it's not in the mainstream sites being translated. I think the anime has the same name, translated to "Oh! Harimanada", which I suppose has the same ring to it as Oh, My Goddess! From watching subbed episodes of the anime Naruto, I've played the Japanese game and got a clearer understanding of what the storyline is in the game, and even what they might be saying. I know a little Japanese, so I can understand some of it, but if I didn't it would still help some. Now to guess the Banzuke and come last again. (Depressed...)
  9. For anyone wondering about this game... http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowPage.php?GameLink=1333 As for translating it... *Does some searching* Normally there would be one site somewhere with a translation, but I can't find it. Apparantly, there is an anime of it which might help though. (I am definately going to find it when I go there for the next year)
  10. The first tie breaker in case of the same points is the number of correct guesses of rank. The second one is what entry was made the earliest. Therefore, in some cases, it might be advantegeous to be earlier rather than later, although normally it won't matter too much. (Applauding...) Apart from that, of course there is a risk of becoming stressed and even miss the deadline if making it too close. I... eh... have a slight tendency to not make my GTB entry (or for that matter my entry in any of the games) until quite late... Of course, nowadays I also completely and utterly suck in this game (to the point of maybe skipping it completely, whcih I planned to last basho but made a reverse decision an hour or so before deadline...), but that is rather beside the point. I have made both good and bad guesses 2 minutes before deadline. B-) The only reason I can think of for doing it later is because of intai, but I suppose that most people would know who is going to as soon as the basho ends. I know I've only played GTB once, but I think being dead last isn't a good way to start it. I need to work out a formula for it.
  11. I was thinking... is it better to wait until just before the next banzuke comes out to play GTB? Or is it better to play it straight after the basho?
  12. Thanks for that. (Applauding...) I was definately not there, but didn't suffer a demotion for it... I will this time though thanks to that 0-15. (Oops! )
  13. As I missed most of the basho, and couldn't enter a lot of the pre-basho games, there are only a few worth mentioning. GISP: 71 points... I'm sure that's better than last time I played. Is there a banzuke to go with this game? Fantasy Sumo: Very bad, 78 points. But I think I got a 7-8 out of it, which could be a KK. UDH: Shows what rushing your entries due to time constraints can do... 312 points, and I got the Shin-sho last time I played. (Applauding...) I remember saying that the Shin-sho was a complete fluke, I'll be able to test that next time. Why do I get the sinking (sort of) feeling that I'll be getting everything sorted for my year in Japan in the run-up to the next basho and I'll miss everything again? EDIT: Not as good as I thought in Fantasy Sumo, I misread and thought Miyabiyama beat Shoryu... so it'll probably by 6-9. If the best record possible is 11-4, they'll probably have the KK line at around 6-9 but I'll be surprised, but I can hope.
  14. I've started making a record of all my game results, but I can't find the old results for the following games. GISP Hoshitori (Natsu 2004 is a dead link) UDH (Need Haru and Natsu 2004) I seem to be missing from a few Banzuke from a few of the games. Could this be related to missing everything at Natsu? Fantasy Sumo RotoSumo
  15. Well, back to the position I'm used to for day 15, bottom of the Brit pile. Overall record of 1-3-11. :(
  16. Day 14 was a good day for the British group... Top 2, 4 in the top 15, 5 out of 6 getting a win for the day. Jomojo missed out on it via risk factor, while Fujisan got his win via risk factor. I expect my name to be bottom of the pile tomorrow.

    Das Gro

Shows how much German I know, from looking at the forum (I didn't search too deep) I thought all the entries were done pre-basho via e-mail or something. So if your 5-pointer wins, you get 5 points and so on? It might just be the Ctrl+F not working on some banzuke, but I can't find my name on a few of the games I've played before and I missed the last basho completely, and I didn't know I could ask for kyujo/kosho (not sure which it is) after the basho has started. It's that once in a row thing that I was worried about, I think I've already been penalised for missing the last basho with some of the games.

    Das Gro

Now I've managed to get back online (been in Barabados for a funeral), besides finding out that I'm bombing in all the games I rushed entries into (as I couldn't e-mail for kyujo... 2 in a row means intai in a few) I've been looking at the games that I haven't been able to play this time around. The only one I didn't get to look at was the German game, mainly because it's in German and I can't find the rules anywhere. I know it's a pre-basho game, but how is it played?

    Deadlines

Is there any chance of that script coming back with the game deadlines?
  20. I ended up missing almost the whole first week last time... I should have checked, but I thought that you had to request kosho before the first day (that's honshuraku, right?) Great start for me in games this time around... bottom of the GTB. Gotta work out how they do it.
  21. Ok, now I've got to remember to actually enter the games this time around.

    Late entry

Are there any of the games that accept entries after the first day? I ended up not being able to get online in the run-up to the basho and missed the first 2 days. :-P (Depressed...)
  23. After 5 straight losses in Sekitori-Toto, I tried that random guess idea with some changes for the more obvious ones (like Kaio/Shoryu) and I've managed 20 and 21 in those two days, taking me up to 4-5. Is it usual for the early front runners in UDH to slip down later on?
  24. Fantasy Sumo standings are here: http://www.natelyons.addr.com/sumo/standings.php I wonder what link I've been using? *Checks* http://www.sumotalk.com/standings.htm I guess it's the older one, I click onto it from the main page... maybe that's now old too. Wow, only 7 out of 148 went for Musoyama in that one. Unfortunately I was one of the people with Tochiazuma. I'm down in 115th place. After looking at Fujisan's placings, I seem to be pretty bad at this... might explain why I'm high up on the UDH.

    The Basho

There was a link to it in sumogames.com, and it lead to the register page... http://thebasho.homestead.com/index.html Thanks for the information about it's current status. It sounds like it was a very interesting game.
