I don't see anyone complaining about these comments. I hope you people who hate Uchidate remember this moment. If she had said the same thing, everyone would have jumped all over her. PS: I second Kinta's thanks for these posts, Jonosuke. (Yusho winner...) They're great! While I'm at it... Thanks also to Kinta for his contributions as well. (Showing respect...)

If I remember correctly, here's another from Kintaro: Tamanoshima: The Chinless Wonder

Chiyotenzan, probably. What ever happened to Towanoyama and Hmanishiki? Are they still down there somewhere? Or have they already retired?

Sadogatake trip to Israel- New wrap-up video
Kotonosato replied to Kintamayama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Great video, Kinta. Must have been a great experience for all concerned. That's the first time I've seen sushi eaten with a fork. In any country! -
I'm just glad to see Wakanosato win one for a change. Especially an old school throwing match. It reminded me of the days (not so long ago) that he was solid sanyaku all the time. Hats off to the veteran! (Neener, neener...)
-
Of course, half of those were impossible as his opponents, anyway. Very quick, aren't you. Would you say then that he won the yusho because of the Futagoyama factor?
-
Can someone with a good eye for technique explain what happened to Baruto's grip? He seemed to have the match all wrapped up and then he just seemed to drop the mawashi. Did he lose it on his own? Or was it something that Wakanoho did to break free from it? (Or was there some kind of magic hair oil on the mawashi that made it slippery?)
-
Takatoriki was at M14 when he won his yusho. He was 12-0 and then faced two yokozuna on Day 13 and 14 (Musashimaru and Akebono). He lost to both of them and then faced Sekiwake Miyabiyama on senshuraku. Many people thought he should have faced bigger guns even earlier than Day 13. That is, he lost both of his upper sanyaku bouts and still had enough wins to get a yusho without even a playoff. He didn't even have to face the highest ranking yokozuna (Takanohana) or any of the three ozeki (Dejima, Chiyotaikai, and Takanonami).

(Sign of approval...)

He honestly looked a little bit green after the Day 12 loss.
-
I guess he must be tied for largest increase in rank too. (Whatever above, it is funny...) :-/

It was on the front page of at least two of the sports newspapers this morning.

Anything about hair oil?
-
The one you're describing (傘) is used for an umbrella. The kasa used in his shikona (笠) also can mean an umbrella, a cap, or a lampshade. But the umbrella in this case may be more figurative like "under the umbrella of the government".
-
I didn't know he beat Konishiki. I'd love to see the video if it's available somewhere. Or maybe you could recount the story...? Edit: This is definitely off topic by now. Maybe a new thread?
-
I'm glad at least Nishi got it. Is there a "this is humor, not actual translation" emoticon?
-
That was kind of strange, wasn't it. He didn't react at all.
-
I think this is really a shikona problem. Kasachikara means "having the strength of an umbrella", and Hanakaze is "sinus cold". (Shaking head...)
-
That was Asashoryu!
-
Maybe they could just scrape off the dirty bits. (Insert ironic foreigner emoticon here.)
-
I get it. "Fought" is the key word here. I guess my next question would be why Asashoryu, Kaio, and rikishi with losing records are on a "leader" board? You don't have to answer this one.
-
Maybe she's collecting signatures to enable women to climb the dohyo? You know, an activist? A feminist activist? Or maybe a hardcore fan who wants to change the tradition? Or a Hakuhou fan who did not want Goueidou in the race? Lucy? I think she just wanted to show Goeido her chanko recipe collection. Or maybe she found the secret of the magic hair-oil and was about to announce it to the world when Takamisakari jumped her to maintain the conspiracy.
-
I think you're right. Kumagatani Oyakata never made it past the Maegashira 13 rank, but he raised Hakuho from a skinny teenager to a yokozuna. He is also very articulate during the NHK broadcasts, a real gentleman in person, and well-respected in the kyokai.
-
Naganoyama, Thanks for posting these. This is actually the first time I've looked at them. Just curious... Why do you state that all rikishi have fought 11 bouts "unless otherwise stated"? Is it ever the case that they haven't?
-
She was headed straight for Goeido. Takamisakari was only ringside at the time.
