  10. with your rikishi pick, you'll get no points for hakurozan. but your rank pick of juryo 5 west could be profitable. good luck!
  11. good day all, with the release of the banzuke, the 2008 torch will start kyusho basho with: rikishi: Yotsugurma rank: Juryo 8 West with several contestent entrees picking juryo ranks or rikishi currently in juryo, i'm looking forward to some torch matches. best of luck. -shimodahito
  12. good day all, the torch stayed in the makushita ranks throughout the Aki Basho, and although many "torchbearer 2008" participants picked makushita ranks and rikishi that are currently in makushita, none had a chance to pick up some points. The "wildcard" still leads the contest with 2 points. here's the torch's journey through the AKI BASHO: AKI BANZUKE: Ms55w Homarefuji AKI DAY 02: Ms55w Homarefuji defeats Ms55e Asahisakari AKI DAY 04: Ms55w Homarefuji defeats Ms54e Aozora AKI DAY 05: The TORCH is passed to Ms53e Omiryu AKI DAY 07: The TORCH is passed to Ms48e Sotairyu AKI DAY 09: Ms48e Sotairyu defeats Ms57w Daionami AKI DAY 11: The TORCH is passed to Ms44w Sasaki AKI DAY 13: The TORCH is passed to Ms13w Yotsugurma (who wins the yusho with a 7-0 record) KYUSHU BANZUKE: Juryo ??? Yotsugurma many participants had Juryo picks and rikishi who are currently in Juryo so good luck to all. -shimodahito
  13. ahhhh.... the kintaro musings classics return...... your posts on the mail list are what captivated my attention to sumo in the early years. totemo domo. -shimodahito
  14. FYI.. there are 10 people in the chat room.....
  15. good day all, i recall years ago there was a link off the sumo games site where 15-30 people would gather for discussion during the matches. does this still happen? if so, where? -shimodohito
  16. i am very impressed with the dedication our server gurus have towards bench sumo. yes, we haven't missed in 10 years. how about we start the basho with our default line ups... and if the server is back up for daily line ups, we can start anytime into the basho. with default line ups, we are all equally handicapped. what say our server gurus and bench players? -shimodahito.
  17. fantastic fay. их баярлаалал!!!
  18. does anyone know if this is getting any press or TV time in russia? if so, how much? what's the tone? -shimodahito
  19. thanks for posting and describing the press call. i have noticed that in roppongi, the police aren't very aggressive with foreigners, including the street hustlers and panhandlers.... for as strict as the laws are, there still seems to be a lot of pot readily available. i wonder if this will change.... perhaps a raid on the "disco where a lot of russians go"... the quicker the basho starts, the better. again, thanks. -shimodahito
  20. good day all, to the great emoticon masters: how about creating a new pot-smokin' rikishi emoticon...? priviet. (I am not worthy...) and off topic... (and i still haven't figured out how to use these in other applications such as e-mail, yahoo-messenger, and skype... can only get it to copy as a still photo, rather than a moving animation) -shimodahito
  21. good day all, just an update as to where the torch is with the release of the new banzuke. amazingly, the torch never left Homarefuji's hands during Nagoya. so for 2008, the torch has only been held by four rikishi and eight ranks. here's the summary with NAGOYA added..... 22. good day all, thanks so much for the updates on this jungyo basho, including the links to the great photos and videos. does anyone know what the general impression of the basho and mongolia was from non-mongolian rikishi. i would like to know what they thought of the whole mongolian experience... ix bayaraalal, -shimodahito
  23. good day all, i suggest we change this thread header to "mongol basho"... does anyone know where they are getting the dohyo clay from for this jungyo? mongolia dirt is much different and i'm not sure if clay is available... would the ship it in from japan? -shimodahito
