  1. Hmmm.. I dug around the archives a bit and managed to assemble the following table: Hatsu Haru Natsu Nagoya Aki Kyushu Total 2007873 20067591113687 2005147011585113 2004257713367131Looks like 2007 will recruitment wise be better year than 2006, we\'re just 6 shindeshi short with 4 bashos to go.. But is there a site with bit more statistics? I\'m curious as to what the numbers looked like before 2004.. Edit: Fixed Natsu 2004
  2. 1. Well.. There has been nothing noteworthy to report lately. 2. Yes, the Baruto craze seems to be fading in Estonia and his injury+kyujo every 2nd basho tactic might indeed have something to do with it.. (Sign of approval...) 3. ... 4. Aside from a certain member rejoicing over the prospect of no more misplaced fjords, the forum has been quite friendly to Estonians. :-) Like I said nothing to report.. But then I doubt I would recognize an MRI scan even if I saw one... Sigh.. I think he should skip this one. In Natsu he'd be in Juryo. In Nagoya lower maegashira or Juryo. In Aki middle maegashira and hopefully the knee will be alright. If he decides to participate then he either does reasonably well or reinjuries the knee in Haru. (Blushing...) If he does well in Haru then the very bleak prospect of reinjury in Natsu will be very likely... :-P Lower maegashira in Nagoya... Juryo in Aki.. Visits from Estonia won't be in top 10 by end of 2007..
  3. No idea Iwakiyama Tochiazuma Aminishiki No idea
  4. Well it is written in the article what's wrong with his knee but it's unfortunately beyond my translating capabilities.. It's something like partial damage to some ligament and some damage to meniscus.. The doc recommends not to run, not to kneel and not to do squats. The injury should take 3 months to heal.
  5. From Eesti P
  6. Well well.. Considering there are less than a million Estonians on the whole planet, comments like this make me feel like I'm part of some HUGE nation, so no offense taken :-( I don't know about other Estonians but I continue to watch even without Baruto though..
  7. Indeed. Baruto had his left leg in the air half of the time, it looks like he was relying solely on his right one.. But is the ACL tear really a hopless case or can something be done with an operation?
  8. So a few months after seperation Onoe and Mihogaseki are at the seperate ends of your list. Onoe oyakata really knew who to take with him..
  9. Thanks for doing this. :) This aiyotsu, is it about both getting the grip on the mawashi, the yotsu grip? Any quotes from Baruto? :D
  10. Rohou was suspended for throwing a tantrum after losing to Chiyotaikai. He was so pissed off at Chiyo he broke the glass in the shower and punched a Mainichi photographer with a bloody fist. I think Baruto's hair is not long enough for the ooichou mage yet. Edit: More on Rohou here: http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9722
  11. So everyone at 2-1. This promotion watch is starting to get interesting. (Eh?)
  12. I decided to tweak this little further and add percentage of fusenpai: Rank Fusenpai Bouts Percentage Y 20 1615 1.24 O 32 3140 1.02 S 10 2236 0.45 K 5 2157 0.23 M1 9 2010 0.45 M2 7 1985 0.35 M3 6 1935 0.31 M4 5 2004 0.25 M5 4 2016 0.20 M6 7 1957 0.36 M7 3 1996 0.15 M8 5 1958 0.26 M9 5 2007 0.25 M10 8 1961 0.41 M11 3 2027 0.15 M12 7 1987 0.35 M13 10 1947 0.51 M14 8 1931 0.41 M15 4 1510 0.26 M16 1 611 0.16 M17 0 300 0.00 J1 11 1894 0.58 J2 5 1900 0.26 J3 7 1965 0.36 J4 1 1846 0.05 J5 6 1894 0.32 J6 3 1876 0.16 J7 9 1875 0.48 J8 11 1858 0.59 J9 3 1917 0.16 J10 6 1916 0.31 J11 7 1901 0.37 J12 3 1876 0.16 J13 5 1913 0.26 J14 2 434 0.46 According to this yokozuna have most fusen losses at 1.24% followed by oozeki at 1.02%. After that it's complete chaos, or at least I can't see any trends here. So another of my theories down the drain, the meatgrinder positions are not likely to get more injuries than say J8. (Showing respect...)
  13. So there goes my theory.. The drop at J10 is also bit odd. So Asa is not that special after all B-) The average for Asa as yokozuna would then be: 240 283 0.8481.. (You are going off-topic...) I take it back, he is special..
  14. Interesting. Can you give a table for Juuryou ranks as well? I suspect the top would have slightly lower percentages because of some bouts in makuuchi etc, and the rest would be around 0.49 like the bottom of makuuchi. The average of oozeki rank seems quite close to 10 wins per basho, so the criticism at those oozekis who get less than 10 wins seems well justified.. What's the percentage for yokozuna when you exclude Asa? Can you give a number of fusenshou losses by rank (excluding those that were on the first day of the basho) as well because the number of total bouts in meatgrinder positions is significantly smaller than in lower ranks. I wonder whether it is because of injury during basho.
  15. An excellent horror flick. Maybe TOO excellent. ;-) But all Japanese women can't be like that, right? ;-) Goddamn the Japanese horror movies are really out there to scar you for life. (In jonokuchi...)
  16. Yeah, I know the feeling. I had actually forgotten where I read this and wasn't too happy when the search gave me waiwai. (Holiday feeling...) Not the most trustworty source.. :-(
  17. Actually the counters (downloaded x times) next to the files were surprisingly low. http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/waiwai/news/...0dm015000c.html
  18. Yes it is illegal, but as long as it was a service provided to the relatively small French sumo community, it was possible to get away with it. If you are a law-abiding citizen then you can certainly rejoice that another den of piracy has met its bitter end and the world is now a better place. Me and some others here have lost an excellent source for viewing the ongoing basho and reviewing old bouts, so we're not cheering. Had serv been a representative of NHK and sent Info-Sumo a cease-and-desist then nobody would be complaining here because such an outcome was expected at some point anyway. But no, he is not a law-abiding citizen. He doesn't give a damn about NHK. Putting these videos on youtube, that is closely monitored by Japanese media enterprises including NHK, is a fine example of how little he cares. And when he was kindly asked to take those videos down, his response was: pfff, is there another site that provides such videos where the owner is not a complete pussy? Hopefully this rant explains why some people are pissed off right now.
  19. Happy birthday! (Holiday feeling...) (I was stupid...)
  20. I think it has become clear that Hakuho must win yuushou next basho to be promoted. If he can do it with 13-2 then sure. Hakuho getting promoted is the only way they might let Miya become oozeki with 10 wins. It would be real interesting to see what happens if Hakuho doesn't get yuushou and Miya gets 11 wins or even 12 wins. Will NSK excuse themselves with Miya's sumo quality again?
  21. Baruto's interview with Estonian TV About the tournament: I am satisfied with the tournament myself. It is too early to wish for more. I value the win over Kotooushuu the most. The losses.. Well a loss is a loss, the most important thing is that I wrestle well. I want to win of course but even if I lose I want to put in good effort. I hit a crisis for a few days when I couldn't get myself going. About the ranking for next tournament I think I'll hear about approximate rank by Wednesday.. I can't tell you anything now. About preparations for next basho I'll be able to catch my breath for a week or so.. to take some time for myself. In one week we'll have another training camp. You can't rest for too long here.
  22. I think it is fair to say that Hakuho-Asashouryuu bout from senshuuraku should be on this list. Truly excellent show. (Sign of approval)
  23. Yup. Futon is written as 布団 or 蒲団. Zabuton is written as 座布団 or 座蒲団, means futon for sitting.
  24. Those performances with 17 wins against minus 2 losses don't come easy. B-) Hmm.. how about 1 kettei-sen win and 2x2 tomoe-sen wins after 15-0, that would make it 50 wins.. unofficially at least.. (Clapping wildly...) Now I just have to go search hakkeyoi for the last time 15-0 tomoe-sen took place.. :-/
  25. Baruto's post on days 11-14: I'll be brief. Days 11, 12 and 13 were a total disaster, I had lack of energy, the back was hurting and I was feeling bit down. Once I climbed on the dohyo and checked out my opponent I really had no desire to fight him, therefore my lackluster performance. I tried to cook up some strategy but I couldn't think of anything. I really don't want to comment on these days, they've been analyzed enough on Delfi*. Today I was in high spirits from early morning, after a long period of rain the sun was out again and my sumo was succesful as well. It's just one bout left and the tournament will be over. * Delfi is an Estonian news portal where the comments section of the current basho has been highly critical of Baruto the last few days.
