Guest Kaikitsune Posted July 3, 2002 Dejima and Miyabiyama are eager to restore their good sumo this time. Dejima has changed his diet and recovery from his prolonged foot inflammation has evidently been good. Miyabiyama had 14 training bouts at Musashigawa-camp in Nagoya winning 7. Opponents were Musashimaru and "others" ( I suppose Dejima, Buyuzan, Wakanoyama). Miya`s shoulder still hurts. Hokutoriki, Aminishiki and Takamisakari have been training together on many days. Hokutoriki and Takamisakari look forward meeting the big guns although Hokutoriki doesn`t get that muny big guns as foes at M5. Takanohana remains odd and refused to give any indication to reporters after finishing today`s work out (no bouts, yesterday he wasn`t even present at training) concerning his participation. Those articles about Taka go around and around with this neverending "sufficient prepation questionable?" talk. Some hints that his knee would trouble him after a lot of training but I am not sure. Doitsuyama or some other benevolent soul could check these and see if they can interprete the facts better: http://www.sponichi.co.jp/others/kiji/2002/07/03/02.html http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/0703/0703_06.htm http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/hochi/sports/jul/o20020702_10.htm Kotomitsuki had 20 training bouts with some sekitori and won 12. He is a bit timid sometimes with his jaw if I understood correctly. Back stroke swimming is easy for swimmers who don`t know how to breathe.

Those articles about Taka go around and around with this neverending "sufficient prepation questionable?" talk. Maybe they're over doing it a bit but, you have to admit, it is a valid question (the preperation, or lack there of, I mean). It will certainly be an interesting first few days if he decides to compete. Kotomitsuki had 20 training bouts with some sekitori and won 12. He is a bit timid sometimes with his jaw if I understood correctly. This is what worries me about him. When he steps onto the dohyo against Oshi/tsuki rikishi, Kotomitsuki is bound to be somewhat timid. After suffering an injury like that, it's human nature. He will be gun shy. Which means don't be surprised to see a henka or two from him, especially against strong rikishi of the above mentioned style. I could be wrong, but I don't see him as a Yusho threat this basho. But who knows, his lower ranking could work to his advantage... even so...I don't know. (Hmmm...)
