In 2000 Hatsu basho, there were 4 sekiwake: Kaio, Tochiazuma, Musoyama and Takanonami.

Tochiazuma, Dejima, Akinoshima and Kaio were the 4 komusubi in Haru 1999.

But has there ever been 5 sekiwake or komusubi?

Five Sekiwake at the same time. That's the only instance I can find: Nagoya 1972. (search the page for 'five' to see the sentence where it is mentioned)

And I don't see anything on the web about there ever having been five komusubi.
