Hoshifransu 0 Posted August 21, 2002 To be sekitori or not to be ? When you're juryo or higher, you exist, you're salaried, you've got the right to the famous ooichou and not "only" the classic chonmage ... I really think rikishi in Makushita should be more considered, for example. It's too hard to reach the Juryo division with so many good wrestlers and the fact these wrestlers now decide to retire very late, (look at Terao) it's very hard to become a sekitori ! Sumotori's sandals are really strange ... A question I always asked myself is why their feet are longer than their sandals ..?
Tony 16 Posted August 21, 2002 Furthermore, there are very respectable makushita's rikishi as the famous Ichinoya who is 41.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted August 21, 2002 Furthermore, there are very respectable makushita's rikishi as the famous Ichinoya who is 41. Ichinoya was nishi jonidan 57 in Nagoya and ended 2-5 so he'll lose quite a lot of places. His highest ever rank is listed to have been sandanme 6 in Nagoya 1991. Are you sure he's been ranked ever at makushita?
Tony 16 Posted August 22, 2002 No, excuse me! I though that Ichinoya was in makushita division.
Hoshifransu 0 Posted August 23, 2002 very respectable makushita I think about Susanoumi and Hoshitango currently ! Juryo Division and higher really miss these guys ! And many others who will never reach the Juryo ...
