Hoshifransu 0 Posted March 29, 2002 Sumo March new recruits A physical test occured on March, 2nd to recruit new sumotori for professionnal Sumo. 42 young men aged between 14 and 22 years gave satisfaction to the tall requirements (1,73 m) and weight (75 kg). Among them, the Amateur Yokozuna Masato Miyoshi, 22 years, from the Kinki University Sumo Club. 8 other persons have been allowed too thanks to their physical strength, which makes 50 new recruits: the lowest since the end of World War, 2nd . The previous record was last year with only 54 recruits. Miyoshi is the heaviest among them with 185 kilos, which amazed everybody. He has already taken 10 kilos within a week since joined Takasago-beya. His great rival in the universitary championship, Katayama was recruited too. Katayama joined Onomatus-beya last month. I really don't know more about all that, these informations were given by a brand new french sumo site called Info-Sumo. Check it out ! I really hope the webmaster, Jean-Michel, will make it an english version. His site is really great, it has to be known !
