Zentoryu 154 Posted August 19, 2003 Again, posted to the SML by Moti over the last few days. (I wonder why he stopped posting this stuff here) :-( :-( Asashouryuu has been asked by Tatsunami Oyakata to perform the dohyo-iri at Tatsunami -beya's relocated dohyo. Upon receiving permission from his Oyakata Takasago, he has agreed. Since the tachimochi and tsuyuharai were supposed to be Kyokushuuzan and Kyokutenhou, everyone was hoping ato see an all Mongolian dohyo-iri. Turns out it WILL be an all-Mongolian dohyo-iri after all, but the tsuyuharai will be Asasekiryuu. Now, an extra-curricular dohyo-iri where a Yokozuna doesn't belong to the same ichimon of the heya concerned is of course pretty common, but a tsuyuharai who doesn't? Isn't that rare? Especially when there is a viable Sekitori from the concerned ichimon (Kyokushuuzan)? So, to the total disappointment of mankind itself, no "reconciliation dohyo-iri".. "That problem has been solved", said Tasunami beya's PR man, whatever that means. It probably means they wanted to avoid any unnecessary problems. And... Touki, who is a shoo in for Komusubi for the first time in his career,is expecting (with his wife, I take it..) a second child. The child, sex unknown at this point, is slated to be born on the 27th, two days after the banzuke will be announced. When his first child was born, he was in Fukuoka right before the start of the Kyushu basho of 2000, so he wasn't there. This time, he will be. "With the increase in family members, comes an increase in responsibility. The feeling grows when you see your child face to face", said Touki. He suggested the child be called "Komusubi", but has decided to go by his wife's suggestion of "Sheru" (shell). If it is a girl, the name will be written in katakana- シェル If it's a boy-in hiragana-しえる http://sports.yahoo.co.jp/sumo/headlines/n...s_00000014.html Head of YDC Mr. Ishibashi is planning to visit Asashouryuu in keiko on the 5th, to give him "words of encouragement', so that he wouldn't repeat his indiscretions again. He will be taking Mrs. Uchidate with him, as was promised about a month ago. "We have a responsibility of "raising' the Yokozuna. We will be encouraging him to do his best (to stay out of trouble??). I will be going there with Mrs. Uchidate on the 5th, before the torikumi making meeting, I think." A visit by a YDC Chairman to see a Yokozuna's keiko is unprecedented, they tell me. It seems that the purpose of this visit is to put some pressure on the Yokozuna not to repeat his mistakes. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/others/kiji/2003...3/08/18/05.html All for now...
