Age difference of the sekitori & their wives

The news today at SML by Akinomaki tell about Takanonami's, 30, engagement with KONDO Yoko, 36.

Is it just me or have others noticed that while usually bride is slightly younger than her groom with the sekitori it's very often the other way around? Is there some social custom about this or is it just coincidence?

BTW, I can't help but add here a picture from Chunichi web site. Look at how Nami compensates the lack of age with size. :-)

That reminds me of recent photos I watched about Kaiho's marriage and Minatofuji's marriage this summer (I checked it out at the end of the Sumo magazine edited by NHK after each Basho). Both of them married japanese beauties and particularly Minatofuji : his wife is really magnificient and from a rich family and she's doctor (a japanese friend of mine traducted me some excerpts). Both wives are taller than their husband but the difference is not so important as it is between Takanonami and his wife ! But I already watched a same situation, because I've got a little report on video about former Ozeki Asashyo (205 kilos) now Oyakata and he married a japanese model and in Japan, top-models haven't the european heigth of about 1m75 and they are about 1m55 or 1m50 ! And the difference between Asashyo and his wife is really amazing !!! So she's little and certainly about the fifth of the weight of her husband ! Sumotori seem to have big success with women and particularly because their weight is not useless and it's a symbol of power. In our societies, I don't think a (rich or not) fat man could attract so many beauties as the sumotori do. This is really a good revenge for all these natural heavy weighted-men in this country to win the fame, the money, the women ... In our societies so many men suffer from their problems of weight and this weight is a shame for  them. At the reverse, in Japan it's an advantage : you can use it and become a star ... :-Q

I must assume here you meant that the wives are shorter than their husbands. :-)
