    Kyushu Basho 2018 Discussion [SPOILERS]

So, how are the Ozeki criteria again? Takakeishos last tournament was 9-6, is it enough if he has 11 wins in the next tournament? Such interest going forward. Hakuho won¨t be around forever, Kisenosato and Kakuryu both feel like 1-2 bad tournaments away to retiring, if Kisenosato has not already retired. Takayasu might be the next Yokozuna, when grand champions aren¨t around he performs solidly.

Basho Talk - Nagoya Basho 2016 +++ Spoiler Alert! +++

A very interesting day, kind of sad for Kisenosato, but as pointed out that should not happen. Hakuhos presumed injury makes the Yokozuna encounter very interesting. Harumafuji probably has a better chance than usually. Btw. if standards are lowered for promotion, even bigger crime in my eyes is keeping them that way. Many mistakes do not correct one. Someone also pointed out that Kisenosato's record is exactly what it is at this point for a good Ozeki. 2 tournaments 13-2 but nothing before that. Winning this one could barely earn him a promotion, but then again if he ends up having six consecutive tournaments with 13-2/runner up and then wins one, I would gladly see him promoted. Bottom line is, that many people are just afraid of him slipping back to the 10-5, 9-6 numbers and hope he gets promoted before that. But if that happens it just proves that yes he is just ozeki. Still a champion a someone said.

I am the only one, who probably isn't really hoping for a promotion for Kisenosato and for a kind of a funny reason: 4 yokozunas is too many if one of them is so superior. Even now I feel sorry for Harumafuji and Kakuryu for they mostly are not even in a winning contention for most the tournaments. Kakuryu won a year ago, but since then his best record is 11 wins. Harumafuji wins a tournament once a year, but has had to settle for a 9-6 record sometimes as well. Btw, how bad it would have actually been for Terunofuji to get promoted before his injury, he would have had to retire already. The kind of same thing is for Kisenosato, if he doesn't win now on his own, he won't win as a yokozuna either. Then we will have four yokozunas where one wins, one comes in 2nd or 3rd, and 2 produce a 9-6 record. That's terrible. Bottom line, a Yokozuna is the title of a champion, champions win. The rank should not be awarded without the standards being set.

It is really not looking good for Terunofuji, when we think about the quality of his second half opponents. He showed such promising sumo when winning the basho and achieving the ozeki rank.
