here we go again. like nhk sumo assosiation thinks the throwing of matches can be solved by canceling bashos and other events. the throwing of matches for money or just to help out someone will never end. it will always be with sumo and any other sport or game. anyone who thinks this kind of thing can be resolved is living in a dream world. again the lowest of the ranks and the public gets punished for something nobody can fix. glad i'm not there anymore.

poor petarao. dissapointed I bet. but it's good to have it shown on NHK. it will be my last time seeing it since I will be leaving Japan for good in October. I won't pay the nhk tax here before I leave and regret ever paying it. where I am moving to the fee for haaving nhk is 35.00 monthly so I will mnever see it again. so long gang. have a good life everybody even those nhk employees who fought so hard against he mom and pop viewers of sumo.

it means nobody told nhk so there was no knee jerk reaction and without nhk issuing order to the kyoki the cool heads prevailed. now nhk will not broadcast sumo in september bacause they weren't consulted on a bomb threat.

I did my own scientific survey, as scientific as nhk's anyway but I asked questions differently. I asked 29 relatives and neighbors if they watched sumo on tv when nhk was nice enough to show it. 7 said they didn't watch sumo on tv. I asked them why. 6 said they didn't get off work in time. 1 doesn't like sumo. of the six working 4 said they would watch it if they could get off work earlier. the other 22 said they watch sumo all the time, every day, when it is broadcast. I then asked all 29 if they watched nhk regularly. they all said no. when I asked them why they said they didn't like the programing. nothing that interested them except sumo and news once in a while. I guess they are inane people who like inane commercial tv. then I asked the ones who said they watched sumo if they would start watching it again if nhk started to televise it. all of the sumo watchers said YES. my results add up to a great majority who wants sumo televised. now I asked these people because they are everyday normal Japanese who don't live in big cities where nhk had their polls. my results can't be skewed by nhk to be in their favor. one more question was if they pay the nhk tax for tv's. nobody pays and most of them didn't know what I was talking about with the tax. the age of everybody ran from 17 to 78. that's as scientific as nhk's poll. maybe more so because I asked real people with tv's and not homeless people who walk around the Ginza and large department stores or nhk employees scared to tell the truth because they might be fired.

my last comment about your comments is BS. you just don't like sumo and have made it known over and over trying to convince others your closed mind isn't closed.

it's just as important as sumo guys betting on baseball. how do we know no Japanese bet on the world boring cup. has to have been some. probably many. I can't write nhk. my e-mails get returned. I must have the wrong address. more likely they are ignoring people who don't work for them.

(Shaking head...) nonews here with news. I know I said I was done posting about this but this is just to good to pass up. :-O it probably doesn't belong here. I just saw a cnn broadcast and they are reporting over 5,000 people arrested for betting on the boring world cup games. Japan played games in the world cup so using nhk's precedent setting logic with peterao's great glee about not showing sumo (Yusho winner...) because of betting that means nhk must cancel all tv broadcasts of soccer. (Neener, neener...) when will it happen? probably never because peterano isn't going to lobby his nhk bosses to cancel the broadcasts. he loves the boring soccer and hates sumo. lets be fair nhk. cancel the soccer. you set the cancelation precedent. the soccer can be replaced with live and rerun broadcast or the diet sessions or with exciting darts matches. (Applauding...)

Jonosuke I had to come back to answer you. I have paid my tv tax for many many years. after all the years of paying it I think I am allowed to vent and complain about them. I stopped when the nhk nerds said they weren't going to televise sumo because of the gambling. nhk is not the boss of sumo. when and what is done by the kyoki isn't nhk's business. they come across as attempting to blackmail the kyoki into listening to them. when they were ingored they kneejerked the broadcasting. nhk seems to think the problem should have been fixed within a week. when nhk had their problems a few years ago was it fixed in just a few days? no. as far as using capitals I guess you mean caps on what I put down here. I forget. sometimes things are all in caps because I hit the caps key by accident and don't notice it. when I do i'm to lazy to retype whatever is in caps. I don't know what keitai is. thanks for your kind comments. normally I am told what an idiot I am for thinking the way I do. i'm not good at putting things in writting. what I think I should say doesn't come out like I want it to. anyway have a nice day sir and thanks again.

sheesh I didn't realize there were so many nhk employees posting here. I guarentee sir that my wife will never pay the fee. she is Japanese but in the 50 years we have been married she has never paid one bill and didn't know there was a fee for nhk. I pay everything because she doesn't want to get involved with it. I will watch sumo when it is aired again but will never pay again for those old farts at nhk. I wath the brain dead commercial channells because nhk airs even worse programing. I'm not interested in learning junk information anymore. if I want to watch flowers grow or clothes dry I can do that myself and don't have to watch the inane soccer. I don't know what the survey info means but I will agree that nhk has the best and only news in english. I just go to the newspapers web sites. don't need nhk. if nhk stopped broadcasting todaay very few would miss it. it's the main ptopaganda channel for the government and thaat is their main function. brainwash the public now I am bored with this entire thing about nhk so no more from me about it. everybody jump and cheer. no more 2 yens worth from nonews. have a happy all

1400 people surveyed is called a majority? that is the vocal minority and the silent majority wasn't heard. P you should tell your bosses at nhk to go on the streets and the villages and talk to the regular people. they will find way more votes to show sumo and not to cancel the broadcasts. knee jerk reactions by managers always cause the wrong decision to be made. no way will my wife pay the tv tax for nhk. she watches 3 shows including sumo when it's on. not worth the money for the garbage they air 99% of the time. the garbage they air is her comment.
-
okay nhk now you have gone and done it. interfering in sumo operations by blackmailing the kyoki is one thing but interfering in my married life is going to far. my wife wondered why she can't watch her shows and kayo hall. when I told her the channel was blocked in protest of the dumbo decision to not televise sumo I lost the mini war. I was forced to unblock the nhk but I won't watch it and I still WILL NOT PAY the tv tax nhk demands for their worthless broadcasts. a curse on their livers goes out to nhk execs who don't care what the majority of viewers want. I would put the curse on their hearts but it's a known fact they don't have any.

watching world cup documentary? thats like watching clothes in the dryer. it's gonna end 0-0 like most of their crappy games. I would rather watch a documentary on skipping rocks across the water.
-
As an active sumo supporter who also works with and for Japanese bureaucrats, I could not agree more. And the ones I know, or know of, are considered the top of the tree -- that is, at the opposite end to the Ministry of Education etc., which is officially in charge of sumo. Orion what rocket scientist decide the minestry of education should have anything to do with sumo?
-
would this same hue and cry occur if it had been baseball players caught betting on sumo? would nhk have stopped showing baseball games live? nothing would have happened. people would have said so what? they aren't betting on their own game so who cares.

Reminder-illegal gambling within sumo was just a rumor a few weeks ago as well. I was under the impression that many people in Japan knew that illegal baseball betting existed, and that there is a large baseball betting marekt run by yakuza. The only news was that sumotori were participating in those bets. Or did I get it all wrong, and rikishi were more or less the only people in Japan who gambled on baseball results? apparently you got it wrong and only rikishi gamble on baseball.
