    Kyushu 2022 discussion (results)

It reminds me of this! It's called ταυροκαθάψια (tavrokathapsia) and was a game in Minoan Crete.
  2. I think Takayasu should be promoted to Sekiwake. Assume that next basho he gets another jusho-dotten (I cannot imagine he will ever win the cup). He should then become an Ozeki, fixing another hole in the banzuke. But as a Komusubi he won't be allowed to get promoted skipping a rank.

    Ridiculous Predictions Aki 2021

So, after Takakeisho's dreadful start and pressumably bad state, a (not so) ridiculous prediction: Hakuho intai on purpose so the sumo association does not have a second Ozeki, not even a Yokozuna-Ozeki one! They are forced to choose between a makekoshi Mitakeumi and a M1 Hoshoryu with JY to promote to Ozeki, to fill in the rank!
  6. What happens if the leader dies? If he is forced to go intai?

    Nagoya Yusho Predictions?

Yusho: Hakuho just to suck all the lifeforce of everyone expecting a smooth transition to the next generation. Jun yusho: Shodai and Terunofuji with 11 wins each. Total collapse of Takakeisho, another disappointing basho from Takayashu.

Preparations of the Y/O- Haru 2021

Well, during his first run people used to throw zabuton when he was losing...
  10. Any idea if Terunofuji indeed got injured?

    the Dark Side of Hakuho....

And we love him because pressumably he did not call the mono-ii because he lost, but because he felt the fans deserved better.

Preparations of the Y/O- Haru 2020

And let's not forget Kisenosato that still crushes poor Takayasu in keiko.

Dangerously close to the third rail...

The athletes in ancient Greek Olympics were buck naked, as a sign of innocence and proof they had nothing to hide. Nudity was one of the main reasons for the demise of Ancient Olympics, with the advent of Christianity.

    Hakuho’s father just passed away.

RIP. It also means that Hakuho is free to seek the Japanese citizenship.

    YDC convenes-Nagoya 2017

So I will sound stupid and shallow just to point out that a Japanese Yokozuna should have the right to take all the time in the world to heal properly but a Mongolian Yokozuna should not be missing too many fights!

Basho Talk - Nagoya 2017 (SPOILERS)

Well there was certainly an ozeki that got a special title, that of a yokozuna, a couple of centuries ago!

Times We've got close to 5+ Yokozunae

And since we are fantasizing, why not Ura? I'm a fan!

    January Ura Compilation

Ura has three characteristics that could carry him a long way: - very strong legs - exceptional balance - technique that rivals Harumafuji's What he lacks is experience and I'm afraid we will see a short career because of injuries. Otherwise his potential is unlimited and not only to be a Makuuchi mainstay.

Basho Talk - Hatsu Basho 2017 ** (SPOILERS)

I remember when Kotooshu got his yusho that there was a discussion whether or not he would deserve the tsuna if he won a second one immediately after that. The general consensus was that there was no other choice if and only if the second one was zensho and the argument was his very bad sumo in the previous year. Now we have an ozeki with the best record in 2016 and we are still discussing whether he deserves to become a yokozuna. We choose to take only the previous tournament, consider a jun-yusho as negative to cry out loud, and ignore his performance before that. I see a major inconsistency here. We either give normally more emphasis on the last two tournaments and take into consideration the previous performance, or we ignore altogether everything before the last two tournaments. We cannot have it both ways. Ignoring the previous good performance but emphasizing the previous bad performance. Kisenosato well deserves to become a yokozuna and I dare a prediction: we will see several yushos after this one.
