Searching through the database I found only two instances in the last 60 years where a rikishi had a KK from M1 or higher and then managed to get only seven wins in the following two bashos combined. The first one was Tamanoumi who had a 12-3 as M1 in Kyushu 1959, but then went 4-11 from Komusubi and 3-12 from M5. However, he was already 36 years old back then, and certainly on a general decline. The second case was Ryuko who finished 8-7 as Komusubi in Haru 1970, and then went 5-10 from Komusubi, followed by 2-13 from M3. This case is not really comparable to Homasho because both make-koshi basho were in the meatgrinder. There is certainly something strange going on with Homasho. When a rikishi as Homasho is in such a losing path it is the first thing to be thought and steroids stuff are not to be ruled out either. There are seemingly, though, other issues to worry about. His sumo has become more predictable and to advance to another level or just keep the current something should be done - Toyohibiki is in the same spot regarding that too. On the contrary, he is tachiai is less powerful and the defence, as already stressed, is worsening, perhaps due to his decreasing quality as to positioning and movements... he is losing the balance more easily... is he ?
