Is this the first time we've seen BTS for the promotion ceremonies? Certainly a very enjoyable video.

Hoshoryu on the 16th will have a yusho parade in Kashiwa, where he went to high school and which he says is his hometown in Japan.

Not by car, with jin-rikisha, from Kashiwa station West entrance at 13:30h 220m, then to the East entrance, at 14:30h 440m from there, and then flowers from the mayor. In case of bad weather it will be cancelled.

The roads were filled with about 25 000 spectators - one had to line up in the morning to have a good look.

- we can't expect him to yusho after all the promotion events, but it seems more moderate than for other recent cases. He will try to justify his promotion, so I expect a good result

the sumo channel already has 4 videos and a playlist

More spectator videos appeared, this one with details before the start of the parade - and the false announcement as Asashoryu by the local MC (in the white jacket), just when the first parade was about to start - at 6:45m

Hoshoryu a bit anxious, for the first time in a jin-rikisha - he was assured that it can carry persons up to 250kg

My God, I'm stunned by the size and density of the crowds!  It reminds me of videos of kami being hustled through town in portable shrines.  A very impressive parade.

Press conference of the new yokozuna on banzuke day

Every day, articles about the hinkaku comments from the YDC keep appearing, mostly outraged about the one from Tokura. Another member just emphasised the importance of hinkaku, without derogative additions. Tabloid articles mostly get in this direction, some expect difficulties for the new yokozuna, some think he'll do fine, e.g. today from Friday "No need for heel yokozuna any-more"  o

Very late to the party here, but I still cannot believe (in a good way) that Hoshoryu is the new Yokozuna. I have been following sumo for only 3 years, but I have had always fun watching his matches. Godspeed to him!

John, looking good.  Hiro, better start bulking up.  Murray, congrats on the promotion.

I'm not privy to the NHK banzuke, but I'm surprised Hiro outranks John on the English speaking side of things...

Asashoryu mentioned, in an interview after Hoshoryu's Meiji Shrine dohyo-iri, that he thought the arm rotation looked weird. He speculates that it was caused by Hoshoryu breaking his arm a long time ago, having fallen off a horse

Now it's been reported that he hurt his elbow in the playoff matches

It actually looked like the elbow was hurt early on in the match with Atamifuji, another reason I found his yusho amazing.

Rooting for Hoshoryu that was a frustrating match to watch even without him getting hurt in it. Why is he still trying to throw Atamifuji?! It doesn't work, the kid is too big and too inert.

Well I chose an interesting time to have a break for three bashos (moved house, and related issues). The Yok appears to have shrunk.

Can somebody tell me the company which made this Kensho-Mawashi set?

Takasu ordered it, design by Shuoh Yamazaki (also some illustrations by Rieko Saibara), usually ordered through Takashimaya (their name is somewhere on the back and on the akeni then), but the actual maker of the kesho mawashi are other specialists, depending on the technique with which it is woven and what kind of embroidery is used, e.g. for Kisenosato

the Hokuto-no-ken kesho-mawashi set for Kisenosato

5 kesho-mawashi craftsmen around pure-silk Hakata-ori artisan Hyosuke Kusaka 日下淼介  (77) had worked on the set for 2 ½ months. Usually 1 craftsman works alone on a kesho-mawashi/set - Kusaka did the McLaren for Ishiura in about 2 months www.as-web.jp/info/81659 ).

I haven't seen news about who made the new dragon set

Before the name is engraved on the yokozuna stone, today the tegata in stone of the 74th yokozuna was officially revealed in the Futaba(yama) village in Usa city. They have such tegata reliefs of the yokozuna since Hakuho.

the form from which the relief was made was on display there since late last month https://tosonline.jp/news/20250320/00000005.html

The name is now engraved on the yokozuna stone at the Nomi-no-Sukune shrine near the kokugikan (yokozuna stones are at several locations)

Hoshoryu yesterday did the dohyo-iri at the shrine's regular pre-Tokyo basho event and was pleased to see his name there now as the 74th o
