The above can serve as a sort of dohyo-iri. It's great to see Oshirokita back with an entry. He neglected to select a Juryo rikishi, so he's stuck with Mukashi's selection of Hitoshi. Better than nothing? Not so far!

Thanks so much to everyone for playing! I'm not sure if I will be able to post regular updates this basho as I'm adjusting to a new work schedule. I almost decided not to run the games this basho, but when your entries came in, I knew I had made the right decision, to continue. There are 12 players this time, including the 2 drones, Mukashi and Genzai. The creator of this game, Oshirokita has returned with an entry, so this is a special basho! There were many popular selections this time. In particular, everyone selected the same rikishi for Jonidan and Jonokuchi and only one player didn't select the most popular Sandanme rikishi. I haven't fully analyzed the entries yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some that were completely identical.

Thanks so much to everyone for sending in your entries! We have 10 players this basho, including the drones Mukashi and Genzai. A kyujo replacement was made for Torafujii who selected Tochimaru. The default replacement is the drone Mukashi's selection, Goshimaru. Just started a new job, so may not have the time and energy to post regular updates. I'll need to adjust from being a night owl to becoming a morning lark, so in the short term, I plan to prioritize sleep.

This is the thread for the Pick The Yusho Winners (PTYW) game for Kyushu 2023. Until further notice, the game will run just as it has the last several times. I will compile the results and post them as best as I can on this thread. This is a pre-basho game where each player selects a rikishi from each of 8 sections of the banzuke. The player earns points for each win, each kachikoshi, and each yusho earned by their team of 8 rikishi. The sections of the banzuke are these: Sanyaku (Y through K) Maegashira Juryo Upper Makushita (Ms1-15 ) (* now including tsukedashi, if any, at these ranks) Lower Makushita (Ms16-60) (* no longer including tsukedashi from the Upper Makushita ranks) Sandanme (plus tsukedashi if any) Jonidan Jonokuchi That's it! The Sandanme Game will run again for Kyushu 2023 in the same format as used for last 7 basho.  The usual invitation has been amended to allow for the reduced ranks in this division which began with Natsu 2022: For the Sandanme Game, please send me your list of 15 rikishi from the usual segments of the banzuke. The segments had to be modified due to the reduction of ranks to 90. The only change is that the 51-60 group is split into two groups. Sd 1-5/6-10/11-15/16-20/21-25/26-30/31-35/36-40/41-45/46-50/51-55/56-60 61-70/71-80/81-90+ (81-90 including tsukedashi if any) Your rikishi earn points for each win, for a kachikoshi record, for leading their group, and a bonus for the best scoring rikishi on each team based on how close they were to the yusho winning record. The result is adjusted so that the best possible score gets a 15-0 result. The drone Mirai knows the future and always selects the best rikishi in each group. This shows us what the best possible score would be at each stage of the game. The drone Genzai picks the most popular rikishi from each group. This drone has tended to score well. The drone Mukashi picks the rikishi in each group who had the best record last basho. This drone isn't expected to score well but sometimes surprises us. I'm under the impression that Kokonoe has a history of abusing younger deshi. I don't think that type of culture is helpful for building strong confident rikishi. I've been avoiding that heya in sumogames since I heard about the issues there.

I posted the detailed results above the final standings summary. Athenayama has been amazing this year, winning 3 of the 5 basho so far! Collectively, we did a good job since the most popular picks drone, Genzai won a share of the jun-yusho again. Only Chishafuwaku and the yusho winner could do so well. Thanks to everyone for playing!
