  1. We have a playoff...!
  2. Oh no Takayasu...............is it never meant to be?
  3. Cheering for Takayasu after so many times getting close to the yusho. Wonder how many chances he has left to finally win a basho. Despite that, big fan of Wakatakakage and Kotonowaka, two faces of the future of sumo!
  4. Agreed - excited to see what the future holds for Kinbozan. He should be ranked rather high in makushita, quite possibly at a rank from which he can then try to gain promotion to juryo
  5. Great result for Takayasu. Composed, patient sumo in the closing stages of the tournament when the pressure is really on. It might just be his time to lift the Emperor's Cup at long last.
  6. Really enjoying watching the makuuchi Onami brothers show some excellent sumo this basho. Great win by Wakatakakage over Kotonowaka, digging in deep defensively before securing the win. Another good win by Wakamotoharu, strong yorikiri against Endo who is performing well this basho. The brothers have great yotsu technique and some sturdy defence. Good things happening at Arashio beya right now.
  7. Makushita comment - interested to follow the progress of Kinbozan (Makushita 34W). He's in his third basho after entering the banzuke with a Sandanme tsukedashi, and he's currently in the Makushita yusho arasoi at 6-0. This follows a 7-0 yusho in Sandanme and 5-2 in his first basho Makushita. He's doing very well, seems to be one for the future and looks likely to reach Juryo later this year. I hope he continues to do well as he rises up the banzuke.
  8. Wow Wakatakakage....what a fight. He did really well to get Takayasu in a high position, difficult for Takayasu to recover there. The final few days are going to be very interesting indeed!
  9. Today's win is a good sign that Takayasu might finally get his first yusho. He had to dig deep to defend against Hoshoryu's sumo today, in what was an excellent match demonstrating Takayasu's well-known stamina. The way he weathered the pressure in this match, coupled with the varied kimarite (including some strong throws) that he's used so far this basho, makes me think this could finally be the time for Takayasu to lift the trophy. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of his final few bouts of Haru 2021.
