  1. Who will Goeido fight on the last day?
  2. My theory is that he cant cope with the stress... look before the bout, his eyebrow movement, he is fighting something inside of him.. maybe the thought of loosing, who knows. Then he comes out exploding with anger, like trying to channel all this emotion into this fight but thats exactly what led to his fall in the end. I also think goeido will loose 2 times... 4 days to go in which he has to face the best rikishi of the tournament.
  3. I dont think so! I would say about half of his wins so far were solid, the rest not so much even some very close calls in there...
  4. Well, personally speaking the thing about Kotoshogiku's Yusho was much more shocking than a possible yusho win from both Goeido or Okinoumi.. Goeido marks 2 years as an ozeki now, and through his sumo careers he had several 12-3 bashos, which could win one a yusho as we know. And Okinoumi is like underrated, some examples, Harumafuji lost against him in his last 4 bashos, and I looked up Kakuryu's Yokozuna run today, wich were 2 14-1 basho's and you'd think hakuho is that one loss... but no, both times it was Okinoumi.
  5. I honestly thought they allready are pressuring him, but i sadly cant read japanese so I dont know whats happening there. If he finishes with a double digit win, I could imagine that they wont stress him that much about it... but his hard bouts are mostly ahead of him.
  6. Well I too think Harumafuji is the most consistent on the leader board but Okinoumi just puts away the best rikishi, his adjusting jump stepp during his bout today, had me look twice at the fight... he knows what he is doing. Though after he beats Goeido I only see Takayasu stopping him... Hmm they really should reward jun yusho winners with atleast something.
  7. Feels like the deciding match happens tomorrow^^ goeido and okinoumi are both on fire.. Btw. what does someone get for a jun yusho? Just a pad on the back?
  8. Well it looks like Goeido might just be the right guy for the job. ;)
  9. Pretty much this! Harumafuji always lost on day 3 in the last basho's and he is more likley to win the second weeks bouts than anyone else, and i cant say the same thing about goeido..
  10. Is there any update on how Harumafuji feels? Did he comment recently after his day off training?
  11. I'm happy sumo file posted this awsome doc. about chiyonofuji's consecutive winning record with english subs, thought you folks would enjoy it too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90nxpq9bTIQ Part2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng0wggxREVM
  12. RIP, he was legendary... if that dropout at haru 1986 didn't happen he would have had an 9 consecutive yusho win streak. Exactly how I feel, but still you probably have to give hakuho a spot up there, not because of his many yusho wins, but because of his sumo style which reminds me of the traditional yokozuna of the past.
  13. Well, I think even 11 wins shows the continuing level of success that should be expected of Yokozuna in the face of going 13-13-12. The mediocre yokozuna we have now have never had that consistent of results, just spikes for one or two tournaments. Harumafuji is kinda close with his 15-15-9-15, but that 9 really sticks out there. Neither of them have ever even had 11 wins in 4 straight tournaments, even if you exclude basho they didn't enter or were injured early in. Kisenosato would show a remarkable level of consistency in his results not seen in the other non-Hakuho Yokozuna if he could get at least 11. If he wins 12 or more, that would be even more impressive. But still, the YDC is not going to recommend to promote someone without a Yusho, no matter how much they show themselves at the strength of other rikishi who were capable of going on the streaks necessary to meet the "two consecutive yusho-equivalent" criteria. It's just not going to happen, ever. To be fair, most yokozuna drive their first basho in the ground... hakuho's 11-4 wasn't that great either. If Kise wins a yusho und gets the promotion, he almost certainly ruins his follow up. Although i wonder why that keeps happening...
  14. Isn't that a bit harsh? Sure he won 3 yushos with 28, and that without a doubt was his prime. But recently it feels like the chains came of that kept him from winning, he still has the speed and agility. This basho his sumo was also very powerful compared to his others in the past. I don't see him slowing down, quite the opposite. He may very well win in September ...
  15. Thanks for sharing, what does the V above of the 8 stand for?
  16. I feel like even 2017 is too early for hakuho to retire... yes injuries are hard to foresee, but even injured he still fights like a good ozeki... I don't think its a stretch that he will stay till 2020. I also think Harumafuji will go stay at least till 2018 .. he still got it, and the support of his fellow stable mates made a huge difference in the recent bashos, if he stays injurie free... why blow it?
