  1. Well... as some others tried to tell, it's about time to check if you allow cookies for sumoforum.net. I think there wasn't an answer from you on that yet. Ooops.. Forgot about that.. In my Tools | Internet Options, Privacy tab, I added 'sumoforum.net' as 'always allow' cookies. Also, since experiment 2 above succeeded - I think that cookies are enabled...
  2. ...Well, I mean in everyday Japanease (I know what it means in Sumo). Thanx!
  3. I have conducted some thorough scientific experiments as follows: 1. Left the computer on all night (internet connected). In the morning - I WASN'T required to log-in. 2. Closed the internet connection, then re-connected - I WAS required to log-in. My conclusion - the forum identifies the user through the IP address. My IP changes every time I connect to the internet (ISP policy, I guess) - hence, the need to log-in. Anyone has an idea how to overcome this? (or I'm suing the Kiokai (Sign of approval...) ).
  4. Though I have watched the feed several times already, only today was I on-time for the Yokozuna dohyo-iri. A big surprise... I was under the false(!) impression that the Yokozuna share the duty, i.e. they get to do it only every other day. I was really surprised to see Hakuho perform right after Asashoryu. So, this is the deal? And what happens if there are, say, 4 Yokozuna - all of them perform each day? Many thanks.
  5. Same computer.. Same ISP.. Maybe the IP changes as I connect to the ISP every morning.. OK, maybe I'll try to keep the computer on at night and see in the morning if I still need to log-in. What exactly should I check with the cookies? I'm using IE7.
  6. Well, I mark the 'Remember Me' box. If I log-in the same day it does remember me.. Also, when I do get the log-in screen - after a day or more - it remembers my name/password: once I click the first letter of my name the browser suggests the rest of the name and fills the password. Any ideas?
  7. Hi. Each and every new calendar day, when I go in the forum, I need to re-login. This is a bit annoying.. Is there a way I could be made to log-in once a week or, even better - once a month? Cheers!
  8. Yes, it's already the Boeing.. My mistake. I looked at the NSK official page. Apparently, it updates only some hours after the bout results are published. Post corrected.
  9. In 'Rikishi Talk', he's often quoted as if he doesn't care much about the record. I find it hard to believe - it seems like a major record in the sumo world. Chiyonofuji has retired only after securing it by 3 wins (though obviously I don't know what went through his mind at the time). Kaio has good chances of breaking it - as an Ozeki. If he decides to stay in makuuchi even below Ozeki - he will surely break it. My question is: when is the time (if ever) that one of the old boys (say, Kitanoumi) approach Kaio, tap him on the shoulder and say: "dude, it's about time you retire. It's inappropriate that an Ozeki will hold such a prominent record in sumo".
  10. Kaio is 36 today - Happy Birthday! He overtook Taiho at 3rd place all-time - at 747 career makuuchi wins - by winning his 8th today. He needs just 61 more wins to surpass Chiyonofuji and become the all-time leader. His last 6 tournaments records are: 8-7, 1-5-9, 9-6, 8-7, 8-7, 8-7. Assuming 8 wins a basho, he will break the record in ~7.5 bashos.
  11. I second that :-S
  12. Well, obviously not.. Strange dive by Mickey (judging by the feed only).
  13. Well, far from being an expert myself, still, some observations... 1. Hakuho I also predicted Hakuho will be the next yokozuna, long time before he actually got it. Why? When he started in Makuuchi, you could see that he has a stable lower body - he was almost never pushed back. His upper body was very supple at the time (and relatively thin) so he wasn't generating (relatively) much strength from there, which ended in some really intereseting bouts, BTW. When he got up the ranks and started fighting Asashoryu, I recall Asa always had a difficult time winning, and even lost some bouts. IIRC, apart from Tochiazuma, Hakuho (not even an Ozeki) was Asa's hardest opponent at the time. Being only 19 (IIRC, again) it was reasonable he will get stronger (which he did, gradually). When he won his 1st yusho he was already formidable. Then he was injured and it took him few bashos to recover. This was the time that I was positive he's the next yokozuna while many people still doubted him, unsure whether his mediocre performance was due to his injury, or not. 2. Asasekiryu, Kakuryu, and Tokitenku They have a combination of strength & skill much higher then the lower rankers. The reason they do so-and-so is that they face the joi-jin every 2nd basho (at least). 3. Tamanoshima A very strong rikishi. Is not easily pushed back. This allows him to compensate for his weaknesses. Summing it up, I would say that a good rikishi needs a combination of: power (strength), agility, sumo technique, fighting spirit. If you take Baruto as a case in point. I would say he's extra strong, agility was good before the injury - but not as good since, sumo technique is lacking (he's not winning with many different techniques, like say, Asasekiryu), fighting spirit.. ahhha, medium, I'd say. Bottom line - not Ozeki material (as of yet). The young Hakuho had lower-body strength, agility (he was moving well, and was very flexible), many techniques and a lot of spirit (he would fight till the end, his bouts were always spirited) - hence, a yokozuna potential.
  14. Looks like Wakanoho is indeed 70. Well, in reverse (0-7). (Pulling hair...)
  15. Ok.. I got it.. I was trying to enter the feed through the NSK site. The icon is not there... I now entered through the link in the forum - worked like a charm..
  16. I don't see the icon to click to start the feed. Maybe they have a quota - max number of users, after which they disallow more users?
  17. I can't see the stream.. Does anybody see it?
  18. This piece by EB is just a farce. Reminds me of some classic literature - Major Major Major Major putting on a fake mustache, comes to mind...
  19. I agree. For me (an Asa fan), the decisive issue here is that the opponent is a Yokozuna. The dame-oshi may be tolerable for handling lower rankers (though still undesirable). However, a Yokozuna battle should be the utmost display of true sportsmanship and mutual respect. Asashoryu cannot - should not - treat his fellow Yokozuna with anything but the utmost respect. If he does, he's degrading Sumo.
  20. Yes, I noticed it too, and this has started few bashos ago. Hakuho is becoming the "Wooden Rooster": "If someone brings a rooster to fight him, once the rooster sees his composure, the other rooster will run away without fighting." (The Story of Futabayama and the Wooden Rooster) (by Jonosuke).
  21. Hakuho just looked awesome today. Kotoshogiku didn't stand a chance.. This basho is Hak's..
  22. I have to say that the Asa-Giku bout looked a bit strange. It seems like Asa was 'lending his chest' - no effort whatsoever to shake Giku off, to stop his moving forward. He had a left grip, then lost it, then regained it - but he never used it. No apparent use of his right also. And yes, there was some 'effort' at the edge... Still, it looked more like he was acting then actually fighting... Asa looked very sharp this basho. Today's sumo was listless. Strange indeed...
  23. The sadogatake ozeki duo seems in trouble (both at 2-4). Assuming they will both be beaten by the Yokozunas, they can afford only one more loss to avoid kadoban.
  24. Well, what I've meant by "Will he be allowed to" is: will the kyokai allow him to. It seems kind of 'historically inappropriate' for an Ozeki (though a great Ozeki) to hold such a key record, surpassing sumo legends such as Chiyonofuji, Kitanoumi and Taiho.
  25. Kaio has currently 727 Makuuchi wins. Record holder is Chiyonofuji with 807, followed by Kitanoumi (804) and Taiho (746). Kaio is very likely to surpass Taiho this year (maybe in Aki), and, should he continue winning at a rate of 8 wins per basho, he will break the record in less than two years. Is he aiming for this record? Will he do it? Will he be 'allowed' to do it?
