  1. WARNING: NON SUMO
  2. ... but I'm really taken aback by this sudden venomous attack on Asashoryu and progressivism in sumo. It's all about perceptions. I did not find Jonosuke's post as a venemous attack on Asa, but a pretty factual statement about how he got to where he is now. It seems that, especially in Western societies, no one want to take any responsabilities about one's actions. It's always someone else fault! So is Asa almost always blaming his problems on someone else. It's the press, it's the shimpan, it's the NSK, it's the YDC... well may be it's YOU, bud! Asa's example probably had a lot to do with the behavior of the 3 Russian amigos: "Hey, if Asa can gets away with all his crazy stuff and disregard for the rules, we probably can get away with it too" duh! Asa is in Sumo for the recognition as a Dai Yokozuna, and financial gain, which is OK in a sense, but don't blame someone else when you can't put up the numbers. If he would just win as he did a couple years ago, and stop crying when he looses, then, things would probably quiet down. Unfortunately it might be a little too late. Chiyonotora
  3. That would probably get him an Ozeki promotion, with double digit wins 9-6, 10-5, 10-5? No. More like 13-2 with jun yusho
  4. That would probably get him an Ozeki promotion, with double digit wins
  5. I can not see the light streak (rice?) in the other picture. http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/index.php?...ost&id=1784 I feel he deserved a mono-ii on this one, but his vulgar comment at the shimpan, is not going to make it easier for him in the future. His sumo is also very weak. He should speak with "his sumo" not his mouth. Just win the bouts, like he did a few years ago, and the rest just take care of itself. Unless he regroups very fast, shows some "hinkaku", (tough odds), I see Asa going intai soon. Chiyonotora
  6. Last night, having dinner with some Japanese friends, who are not so interested about Sumo, I mentioned that Wakanoho, was now going to sue and trying to get back into ozumo. When I asked if they thought he could come back and what they thought about it. The answers were quick and non equivocal: "Impossible" "Crazy-stupid" "Why does he just go home quietly" "Has he been smoking something?" Personally, I think his lawyer will gain notoriety and take as much money from Wakanoho as he can, knowing Wakanoho can not win that case. Japan is becoming more litigious but I don't think a lawyer would have taken that case 20-30 years ago! Time are a changing... Chiyonotora
  7. Ama has been knocking at the Ozeki door for a while now. With a good (12-13) win at the Aki bashoo, he could be promoted to Ozeki for Fukuoka. Although surely not on the same level as Chiyonofuji, Ama has about the same build (same weight and a few inches taller). His winnings are with various kimarite, making him multi dimensional in his sumo, and hard to predict at tachiai. He has great technique and speed, like the best uchari I have seen: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoID=37881299 I hope he can find the inner strength that's required and needed, for him to move on to the next step. 8. I hope Asa will prove me wrong, as I don't think it would be a good idea to check the rijichyo's resolve at this time. But, Asa being Asa, how long is he going to be able to smarten up, before returning to his old self? We sure don't need another crisis now! Chiyonotora
  9. Even if he was coached extremely well concerning the duties of a yokozuna, that doesn't mean Asashoryu would follow that coaching. He is an individual unlike any other in sumo. He's an egotist who believes that following the rules of conduct are for others but not himself. He basically follows his own rules, and when the Kyokai got fed up with his conduct, they suspended him for two bashos. From his recent conduct, it seems that suspension did little if any good. I have a feeling that Asa's lack of hinkaku and disregard for the rules of Ozumo, will get him in trouble very soon. Will see then, how serious the richijyo is, in keeping a tight ship. Intai might be coming for Asa sooner rather than later. Chiyonotora
  10. I hope Musashigawa has the "kintamayama" to follow through with his words. I am sure Asashoryu will provide a new opportunity soon, to test the rijicho tough stance. Chiyonotora
  11. Why does not Kotooshu understand what shinitai is? He acts like a prima dona, and expects evrything going his way. He needs to grow up and have a major talk with his oyakata, IMO. I can't see him going any further than ozeki.
