Akinomaki Posted March 26, 2023 Author Posted March 26, 2023 Day 14 NHK most viewed bouts had again a juryo as 2nd - first of course Asanoyama: Ichinojo- Enho, and only third Daieisho Midorifuji
Kaninoyama Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Hokuseiho hung around again nicely today to finish off a respectable 9-6 makuuchi debut. 1

Kaninoyama Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Tough way to finish for Midorifuji. Five straight losses after a 10-0 start to miss out not only on the yusho yesterday but a sansho today. 4
Rocks Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 What was Hoshoryu thinking with the stare downs and trying to intimidate Takayasu? The last thing he wanted to do was get Takayasu interested in the match. He's 1-6 against Takayasu. 4
Kaninoyama Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Daieisho didn't learn a thing after the first bout. Congrats to future Ozeki Kiribayama. 5 1
Benihana Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Well deserved yusho for Kiribayama, congratulations! 1
Rocks Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Hard to believe Daieisho blew that twice in the same manner. Congrats to Kirabyama.

hakutorizakura Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 It's kind of harsh that they made it conditional sansho for Midori, who was the sole 10-0 guy despite his size. Kiri made sure he landed last by stepping on Daieisho's hand 6
Blue_Wolf Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Congratulations Kiribayama. Was waiting for this to happen. Bare no bad luck future yokozuna. 2

Kimura Yodo did the last one I think He did the one for Wakatakakage, I don't recall if he also did the last one for Abi, which didn't even include a sanyaku. Any ketteisen without ozeki or yokozuna is done by a lower ranked gyoji, I found 6 (I don't know how to remove the reverse duplicates) http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&day=16&rank1=m,k,s&yd1=on&rank2=m,k,s&yd2=on
sumojoann Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 I have been a fan of Kiribayama since he debuted in Makuuchi in Jan 2020. He made a big splash, winning 11-4 and receiving a Kanto-sho. At the time, I predicted he was on his way to great things. His Instagram page showed 3 pictures of Harumafuji but none of Hakuho. He had big dreams. However, between July 2020 and Jan 2022, he was MK 6 times. I never lost faith in him and I was glad when he bulked up a bit. In this past year, he's gotten all KK and did outstanding in Jan of this year>>> Jun Yusho and winning a Gino-sho. I am so happy he won the Yusho this time. It won't be his last. I am looking forward to the day (soon!) he becomes an Ozeki. Barring injury, he will be a great one with his drive and technical skills. Exciting basho, deserving winner! 14

RabidJohn Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Well, I'm chuffed to bits for Kiribayama, and for Michinoku-oyakata. What a great end to the basho, though I must admit it's the first time I've seen a yusho kettei-sen decided by a mono-ii. I hope he can keep it up with another double-digit score in May, because he certainly looks like an ozeki-to-be. Yet another suicidal utchari from Wakamotoharu. That's a bloody dangerous signature move to have, but indicative of absolute commitment to winning. Sad to see Mitakeumi still a shadow of his former self. One KK following his ozeki promotion, then 6 straight MKs. What happened? 2
Bakayokozuna Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 (edited) Bravo Kiribayama!! Well deserved So like last year we have a shin sekiwake winner. Before WTK we had to go back ages ago and now only a year before seeing it again. Crazy That remind me, in NFL, no teams winning a superbowl at home ever and then Bucs and Rams doing it one just after another. Sport is weird sometimes Edited March 26, 2023 by Bakayokozuna 1
Leo C Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Congrats to Kiribayama! I'm happy for him. Hopefully he also becomes an Ozeki after the next basho. 3

He should concentrate on emulating his uncle's winning ways before he emulates his other traits. Takayasu's face after he gave him that hearty throw was classic 3
