Ex-high school yokozuna convicted
Sasaki Kodai, 2012 high school yokozuna from Tottori, formerly employed at the Tottori pref. office sports department, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment with hard labour, 5 years suspended sentence for inflicting injuries to a co-worker, last October by putting a hot spoon to his belly, 1 months to heal and in December by hitting him in the face with an electricity cord, 3 months to heal. The victim was a kohai at the Nihon university sumo club. The judge: The accused used the sempai-kohai relationship at the sumo club for everyday violence.
The sentence was suspended because he showed repentance by offering 800 000 Yen as damage compensation.
