There are a lot of overseas sumo fans, who can't understand or even read the japanese websites of most sumo heya. So Harumi and me suggested to one of our favourtite heya to make an english website for them. They agreed and so we proudly present (Clapping wildly...):

]I congratulate you on the phenominal idea! If the beya Rikishi enjoy receiving mail from their English

speaking fans just a fraction of the amount we got being able to send them messages, the concept will be a huge success.

Hopefully Tomozuna-Beya will be the first of many to provide access for their growing English speaking fan base.

Update

Just made an update of our Tomozuna site, we extended it and put some kind of a "fan's room" in it to collect your messages and and give you the reactions of Tomozuna-Beya.

Let me first say thank you and great work - the english site is easier to navigate and has a better graphic flow than the Japanese original! :-) I also know how much work goes into translating websites - I've done it for a friend recently. But I thought I might warn you that something is mispelled on the 2nd page, near the top . . . now fixed! So it might need our utmost respekt . . . good luck with the future of an important new website.

(I've been looking for a jonidan to adopt and I think I've found one with Brazillian Kainohama. I noticed he was absent in Nagoya, I assume kyujo? Does anyone know if he's badly injured?)

For those who sent Ozeki Kaio a message of encouragement when he was Kadoban back in March,

you may now know he DID receive your message.

I received the following reply from Tomozuna-Beya to my inquiry regarding those messages:

Kaio did receive the messages via Sumo Forum in March when he was

Kadoban. Those messages were sent us by a fan and were forwarded to

Kaio with Japanese translation.

We try to this english site making better and better in future, and hope

to have your continuous support.

WOW! (Dancing of joy...) I sent a message to Kaionohama and received a reply within 24 hours! The reply gave no specifics as to his injury but says he has recovered well enough that he was doing keiko during Nagoya basho, albeit, with very tight muscles. I'm assuming he is only up to strength and endurance keiko but it sounds as if he will be back to doing bouts soon.

Very interesting also, they say that he is training "Ricardo" the new recruit who is also from Brazil and that Kainohama is very happy to be both a rikishi and a teacher! I was curious as to how the heya was able to bring in two rikishi from Brazil. It turns out that Kainohama was recently granted Japanese citizenship. Does anyone have any details on this? He is only jonidan and I assume that means he is not allowed to marry? Or even if he did he would not be allowed to move out from the heya, right?

I think because of Kainohama's japanese ancestors it was not such a big problem for him to get the Japanese citizenship.

Because of his long injury he dropped the ranks, but I hope he recovered completely now and can start again.
