Sashohitowa Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 By the way, Peterao, what is your prediction about the total number of yushos that Asashoryu will win? Will he stop at 100, or he will continue with few more? And, if you believe that at age of 42 he will still win yushos with ease, at what age do you think that he can retire?
Peterao Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 I believe he will stop at 100. At that point there is nothing left to prove. The only potential thing I can imagine him sticking around for after that would be the first father-son yusho playoff.
sekitori Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I believe he will stop at 100. At that point there is nothing left to prove. I think he will stop before he reaches the age of 100. He probably will retire when he's 75 or 80 because at that age, he'll have slowed down so much that he won't be able to win more than one or two yushos a year. (Sign of approval...)
SalParadise Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 (edited) Plus his first generation of kids will be telling him to stop blocking them from becoming the yokozuna so that they have a chance. The banzuke will consist of the entire 4 generations of asashoryuus (朝青龍 → 朝小龍 → 朝小々龍 → 朝少々龍), and a few 30 year-old Makushita rikishi stronger than Kaio ever was, but unable to reach sekitori status. (at the time, by the way, Ichinoya is fighting around the bottom of Jonidan at the tender age of 120) Edited January 24, 2007 by SalParadise
Doitsuyama Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Let's not be ridiculous here... It's time to pack out one of my favorite smilies again.
Manekineko Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Man, two of my favourite animated gifs... :-)
aderechelsea Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Let's not be ridiculous here... you are quite funny in a rather disturbing way. :-) (Sad goodbyes...)
Peterao Posted March 25, 2007 Author Posted March 25, 2007 Henkamania was running wild today, and Asashoryu's Road to 100 Yusho stalls at 20. Surely there's a lot to be learned from today's action, and surely Asashoryu will learn it. This has been a Road to 100 Yusho Update.
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 To stall? to cause (a motor or the vehicle it powers) to stop, esp. by supplying it with a poor fuel mixture or overloading it. to bring to a standstill; check the progress or motion of, esp. unintentionally to come to a standstill; be brought to a stop. I especially like the last one. So, no yusho #21? Oww...

This results in the aircraft returning to earth, sometimes quite quickly.
Peterao Posted May 26, 2007 Author Posted May 26, 2007 (edited) Obviously a new order in sumo is forming, and while I'm not ready to write off my prediction until we learn more about whether or not Asashoryu is suffering some sort of injury, if nothing else the timing of my previous prediction will need to be reworked. A clearer picture should be available by the end of Nagoya Basho. This has been a Road to 100 Yusho Update. Edited May 26, 2007 by Peterao
Peterao Posted July 22, 2007 Author Posted July 22, 2007 Asashoryu Road to 21 Yusho update perhaps? Asashoryu is now 100% of the way towards achieving 21 Yusho. This has been a Very Special Asashoryu Road to 21 Yusho Update. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming next basho.
s0101 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 (edited) Finally, the order is being restored. It's been a long time. Tell me, why is the last update "Very Special"? (Clapping wildly...) edit: its time for me step aside & keep :-D how the drama folds. Edited July 22, 2007 by sono

This has been a Very Special Asashoryu Road to 21 Yusho Update. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming next basho. How come I am not surprised that this thread appeared once again? :-D I am disappointed that Hakuho doesn't have a bag of tricks to use when he's desperate If the trend continues I doubt he can win that many yusho away from asashoryu
Asashosakari Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 If the trend continues I doubt he can win that many yusho away from asashoryu You're seeing a "trend" based on one single basho? :-D
Joeblack Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 (edited) If the trend continues I doubt he can win that many yusho away from asashoryu You're seeing a "trend" based on one single basho? :-D Yes, base from what I have seen in this basho, Hukuho's attack doesn't have that many variety. I want to see more techniques. That's the trend I am talking about. E.g. He tries to throw Kotooshu with right hand inside grabing the mawashi 3 times without changing his attacking stretegy. further more, I check the "other techniques" section of the pie chart. Asashoryu has whopping 23% vs 14% from Hakuho. Edited July 22, 2007 by Joeblack
Asashosakari Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 You're seeing a "trend" based on one single basho? :-D No... You're seeing a "trend" based on one single basho? (Clapping wildly...) ...base from what I have seen in this basho, Hukuho's attack doesn't have that many variety. I want to see more techniques. That's the trend I am talking about. I guess you meant "yes", after all. Seriously...for many basho before and after Hakuho's Ozeki promotion, people kept complaing that he often failed to dominate his bouts, but rather won them through various amounts of trickery (usually after a weak tachiai). Then he started to dominate more, and became yokozuna. Now he had one bad week (!), among circumstances (i.e. being a debuting yokozuna) that often result in a not-so-good performance by rikishi in his position, and that's enough for you to spot a "trend" of him not having enough techniques at his disposal, even though he showed plenty of techniques (indeed, too many for some people) for years before? Seriously? Man, is it ever-frustrating to interact with people whose long-term memory doesn't seem to go back more than six weeks...
Peterao Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 Finally, the order is being restored. It's been a long time. Tell me, why is the last update "Very Special"? ;-) Because Nishinoshima requested a "Road to 21 Yusho" Update. Now that that road has been travelled, I will once again concentrate on the Road to 100 Yusho Updates as I regularly do. Anyone who wants a "Road to 22 Yusho" Update or a "Road to 50 Yusho" Update is free to do so in a separate post.
s0101 Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I see, I thought the "very special" one would surface when Shoury clinches his 50th or 80th Yusho milestone. I'll do an update when he hits that mark, count on me. (On the banzuke...)
Peterao Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I think I'll have to change this to the "Asashoryu Road to 98 Yusho update"
Jakusotsu Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I think I'll have to change this to the "Asashoryu Road to 98 Yusho update" :-P priceless! :-(
