madorosumaru Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Asashoryu: (Reflecting on his win over a formidable foe) I needed to concentrate to the max. I was planning to use my left and attack from the flank. I got a little flustered [when the tachiai didn't go as well as expected]. Tochiazuma: (Wasn't able to fully capitalize on temporary advantage) I needed to attack a little faster, He was just so quick. More Azuma: (Banged his left knee when he fell off the dohyo) I think it's okay. But I can't seem to hold ground when I step back. Kitanoumi Rihicho: (On Ryu's yusho prospects) It looks more and more like his yusho to lose. Hakuho: (Winning thoroughly over erstwhile rival Kotooshu) I went about it deliberately, but I didn't want to be overly cautious. When it's time to attack, you need to attack. (What now?) I want to do my own sumo. Since I got this far, it behooves me to continue doing my utmost. More Hakuho: (Reflecting pensively on his bout and his prospects) Hard to smile [under the circumstances]. (Managing a wry grin) Tamanoshima: (Falling for a henka) He got me! I wasn't expecting it. (Now what?) I am somewhat relieved since there was so much extraneous pressure [due to my fast start]. Tamakasuga: (Also going down to defeat) When I was winning, my body was moving naturally [almost on its own]. By losing today, I am back to reality. [it reminded me] this is the way it normally is. (Seeing Tamanoshima lose ahead of him) I thought, maybe, the same thing will happen to me. Baruto: (Pulling a henka against Chiyotaikai) I wasn't thinking about [any special tactic]. When the shikiri time was up, it just happened naturally. My lower back hurt so badly I couldn't exert any strength. More Bart: (Elaborating on the henka) That was bad. To do a henka. I hope [the ozeki] is okay. (What now?) I am going to go all-out tomorrow. I will gambarize. Kitazakura: (Probable demotion to juryo with make-koshi) I'm rather naive (sic) and end up thinking too much. This hasn't been the normal Kitazakura. It was a failed product. Takamisakari: (So drunk with victory that he went back to the wrong dressing room) Sorry about that. I got over-excited by my bout today. Four wins. I suppose I can remain in makuuchi now. Don't you think? Oh, no. I'm talking crazy things again. My behavior is sort of weird, too. Chiyotaikai: I didn't think [in a million years] that he would pull a stunt like henka at tachiai. I wanted to see [for myself] his ability level but I barely touched him for an instant. More Taikai: (On the henka) He has a lot of gumption to do a henka against an ozeki on their first meeting. I don't think there is a Japanese who could do that. (Weak smile) Even More Taikai: (Injured his left knee against Baruto) I heard a cracking sound as I put my weight on it to stay in the dohyo. (What now?) I'm okay. I can walk so I don't want to make a big deal out of it. Hakurozan: (Regarding the cheers for his brother Roho) That made me very happy. I hope he will [continue to] do good sumo and receive even greater applause than today.
Yuriyama Ren Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Hakurozan: (Regarding the cheers for his brother Roho) That made me very happy. I hope he will [continue to] do good sumo and receive even greater applause than today. Did that reaction leave anybody else here bit puzzled? (Dribbling...) In the massive Rohou thread roydrager mentioned that when Rohou comes back he will have gained lots of Japanese fan support and I thought that he was being ironic but what the hell was it today? At the dohyou-iri and during Rohou's match there were countless cheers for him. Did this incident with Chiyotaikai and the photographers really make him more popular? (Clapping wildly...)
aderechelsea Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 where reality ends ... japan begins. i am sure you can find such a reaction ONLY in Japan.
Ossetian Yokozuna Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 ( I demand yusho prise for me. May be I was the only one member of this forum who prove ROHO"s rights to answer to any one who attampts insult him. ) Well. I am glad that japanese people have estimated ROHO"s SUMODOU and HONOR. Japanese people know that HONOR IS UPPER OF ALL. ( aderechelsea - I am glad to see you again in spite of you are opposite me always. May be reality is finished in somebody heads in this forum? Be healthy and OK. )
Bishonohana Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Thank you, Mado-san for all your effort in translating the comments made by the rikishis!! (Clapping wildly...) It certainly makes it more personable to hear what they are saying! (Heart)
Asashosakari Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 where reality ends ... japan begins. And on the opposite side, reality is bordered by Ossetia. (Clapping wildly...)
sumofan Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 ( I demand yusho prise for me.May be I was the only one member of this forum who prove ROHO"s rights to answer to any one who attampts insult him. ) So, how did these journalists that he attacked insult him? The whole dohyo incident could be placed in context, but there is NO excuse for what he did afterwards. I am glad that japanese people have estimated ROHO"s SUMODOU and HONOR.Japanese people know that HONOR IS UPPER OF ALL. Attacking journalists has nothing to do with honor.
Ossetian Yokozuna Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Asashosakari, sumofan - I must to prise you by KANTOSHO.
madorosumaru Posted July 19, 2006 Author Posted July 19, 2006 (edited) Please don't misunderstand. The fans at the Aichi Gym did not cheer Roho for his actions the other day. His argument with Chiyotaikai, his indecorous behavior and his violence against the press cameramen were universally condemned by the media and fans alike in Japan. The Japanese, however, are believers in good form. Once the incident was over, all the involved party would go through the necessary motions. The head honcho would censure, a committee would discipline and the oyakata of the rikishi would re-indoctrinate. The guilty party would be properly remorseful and apologize to the people he wronged. In this case, the rijicho was properly infuriated and chewed out the two rikishi for their actions and their shisho for lack of proper guidance. The committee of oyakata met immediately and meted out the punishment. Although there was strong sentiment to suspend Roho for the remainder of the basho, they unanimously agreed on a 3-day suspension. As for Otake Oyakata, he would be penalized 10% of his salary for three months. During the suspension, Roho kept properly low-key, doing keiko by himself back at the heya. As the suspension was ending, the oyakata went to the hospital where the injured cameraman was being treated and offered his apology. Roho accompanied his shisho to the offices of the two involved newspapers, Mainichi and Chunichi, also to apologize. Then, there was a press conference in the media room at the Aichi Gym where the two apologized to the entire press corp. The shisho promised that he would not allow such an incident to ever occur again and Roho quiety said he deeply regretted what he did and was truly sorry. Once the party that committed the "bad deed" has apologized, it is proper for the fans--the spectators at the gym--to support his effort for redemption. Chiyotaikai wished Roho the best in his effort to gambarize, his brother hoped that he would gambarize and Roho himself promised that he would gambarize once he was allowed back on the dohyo. That was what the crowd was cheering--Roho returning to the dohyo to gambarize. His brother was so happy because the people were willing to back him in his return. Roho was surprised and thankful for the fans' reaction. " I had a difficult time concentrating before I got on the dohyo," he told the press later. "But once I was on the dohyo, everything was alright. I was so grateful that the fans yelled 'Welcome back,' I thought their reaction would be the opposite." "I had repeated to myself over and over--'I was wrong in doing what I did.' I wish I had never done it." Roho knew what the applause and cheers were about. So did his brother. Roho, with his shisho, apologizing at the Mainichi Shimbun office. Roho, with his shisho, apologizing at the press club. Edited July 20, 2006 by madorosumaru
Ossetian Yokozuna Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 madorosumaru - It is imposible to know SURELY the course of crowd cheering. To know the truth we need the pall among japanise people. At this moment the fact is - "crowd was cheering" to ROHO, and I thinck, not only for ROHO"s politenees with respect to injured cameraman and his apology in media.
Yuriyama Ren Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Wow. madorosumaru, thank you for this long and insightful explanation. (Dohyo-iri...)
_the_mind_ Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 madorosumaru - It is imposible to know SURELY the course of crowd cheering. then how do you presume to speak on the crowds behalf and what they were all thinking? which your first post clearly does.
Asashosakari Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 then how do you presume to speak on the crowds behalf and what they were all thinking? which your first post clearly does. He's a yokozuna, that's how. (Dohyo-iri...)
Guest Karatoshi Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 ( I demand yusho prise for me.May be I was the only one member of this forum who prove ROHO"s rights to answer to any one who attampts insult him. ) Be sure you're not the only one who has a positive feeling about Roho ( but the others in forum are crying louder: 'take him out of basho', 'arrest him'). It was not his person who started the whole thing, Taikai was it, and some guys like to forget this.

OY - I can only presume you type standing as if you sat, I don't think we'd hear what you were saying. ((To put it a little more bluntly - I fear you are speaking through your sphincter in your recent post)). madorosumaru has his finger on a pulse you will never feel and a level of knowledge on this sport you will never fully comprehend so to struggle on the eng of the fishing hook as you are so clearly doing when continuing to beatify a person like Roho is pathetic. I have spoken to at least 20 Japanese on this issue this week. None have had a good word to say about Roho and most thought 3 days far too light a punishment. Many did also think Chiyotaikai was partially guilty and deserved some stronger form of penalty (this part of my post is your 'get out' clause to try and change tack on I presume?) but again - NONE thought Roho in any way innocent and worthy of praise in this. Now, you may say I only spoke to 20 or so and that is true. My most sincere of apologies but I am too busy today to contact the other 126,999,980. Perhaps someone else in Japan has more time.
Ossetian Yokozuna Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Adachinoryu - Let it be. You are right - the problem is finished.
Naganoyama Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 then how do you presume to speak on the crowds behalf and what they were all thinking? which your first post clearly does. He's a yokozuna, that's how. (Applauding...) [rant] I can think of other, more appropriate, words. Guys - do we have to have this guy on our forum? His constant barrage has become very wearing. If he made other contributions of greater worth, perhaps it could be overlooked, but I see none. (Opening myself up here to receive some verbal abuse I guess, but sitting quietly and hoping it would go away doesn't seem to have worked so far.) Could we perhaps 'send him to Coventry' at least until the end of the basho? i.e. no-one responds to any of his posts, however galling they may be. Perhaps then he would calm down a bit. If only he could learn some better manners I would have no objection to him staying. But I am beginning to think of going away myself. (And I suspect I am not the only one.) The tone of this forum is being overly influenced by a small number of guys with unnaturally high levels of testosterone. (And presumably no girlfriend) [/rant ]
SalParadise Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 (edited) As madorosumaru said far more eloquently than I will bother to attempt, when mistakes are made, the people who make the mistake accept the punishment, make their apologies, and struggle to make up for their gaffes by trying harder. Of course, if you go too far, then it's a different matter. For instance, I can come into work hungover, bleary-eyed, feeling worse than I look, and no coworker will condemn me for being out late the night before. The fact that I feel and look like ass is punishment enough, and the fact that I bothered to come in to work is more important than the fact that I'm a useless sack of feces for the day. Dig? (And presumably no girlfriend) As you can see from the number of my posts, I am a fairly silent member of the forum, mostly because I do not have much first hand info on sumo and I normally can't see any of the bouts live so I depend on the forum for almost all my info. I completely support what you just said, the tone of some of the conversations during thsi basho was (Censored) annoying and uncivilized. This takes away most of the joy of reading the forum. aderechelsea Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 the "ignore user" function is your friend (like Asashosakari would say) ..... if you really cannot tolerate someone use it. (Chucking salt...)
Naganoyama Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 the "ignore user" function is your friend (like Asashosakari would say) .....if you really cannot tolerate someone use it. (Chucking salt...) Unfortunately it doesn't really help. As soon as someone hits Reply (thus quoting the message) you get to see it anyway. Trouble is these type of (chest-beating) messages nearly always draw a reply.
aderechelsea Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 then hust humour yourself by reading OY's posts like i do. I had quite a laugh reading old posts of the period i was not here .....
