Fay Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Day 2 - Ama -Kotomitsuki- a real WOW bout. Puuuuh, three start-ups to beat little Ama, but in the end just perfect (Punk rocker...)
Asojima Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Definitely one to watch in slow motion and stop action. Ama seems to get involved in a lot ot those.
Arvi Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 For this bout alone deserves Ama fightig spirit prize (Sigh...) - twice he did hung on his toenails in clear air, and did get back onto dohyo (Punk rocker...)
Naganoyama Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Ama's really got gumption (and I don't mean the furniture polish (Punk rocker...)). He just doesn't give up.
Phoenix Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I just love watching to see what he'll do in the ring! Sometimes you wonder what the heck he was thinking about, but more often you get a great fight. (Punk rocker...)
Jonosuke Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Thanks for a great thread. Not exactly bouts but still memorable: Day 3 Yokozuna Dohyo Iri with Takamisakari Day 3 NHK Japanese Sumo Analyst - Tatsunami oyakata/Asahiyutaka (he's looking great every bit as he was still active). An oyakata who does not look like one. The Kyokai should be pushing him more out in the world as he can definitely bring in more non-traditional sumo fans. Day 3 Still half empty Nagoya auditorium and finally, Kisenosato vs Kotooshu (the kid does it again!)
Shibouyama Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 (edited) Day 3 TokitenkuU VS Iwakiyama Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Tokitenkuu is looking good this basho. He is still getting stronger and improving his technique with each basho. I see him as a future sanyaku regular in a year or so. He makes me proud I picked him for Fantasy Sumo. Shibouyama Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Kisenosato vs Kotooshu (the kid does it again!) Funny, I was going to list this match as 'must NOT save'. But, that was based on Kotooshu's performance. His sumo so far has been painful to watch. Hooray for Kisenosato!
Shomishuu Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 (edited) Definitely one to watch in slow motion and stop action. Ama seems to get involved in a lot ot those. Ama is the new 'Mr. Ippun!' Kotonowaka's legacy continues. (Blushing...) Edited July 12, 2006 by Shomishuu
Daigaiguma Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 (edited) Day 4 Ama v Wakanosato An amazing bout. Hopefully Wakanosato didn't sustain any lasting injury. That was an amazing ashitori by Ama, showing some of that fire and cleverness that was missing last basho. Edited July 12, 2006 by Daigaiguma
Takanorappa Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Day 7 Chiyotaikai vs. Roho (Dohyo-iri...) (On the banzuke...) (Nodding yes...) (Censored) (Sign of disapproval) This could be the most memorable bout of this basho -- but surely not for it's sumo content. Let's hope that history does not repeat itself!
Gacktoh Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Day 7 Chiyotaikai vs. Roho :-O (Foot in mouth...) (Holiday feeling...) (Censored) (Sign of disapproval) This could be the most memorable bout of this basho -- but surely not for it's sumo content. Let's hope that history does not repeat itself! Day 7 Chiyotaikai vs. Roho (Eating...) We can see the differences. Day 7 Iwakiyama VS Yoshikaze At the edg of DohyoU, Yoshikaze hit Iwakiwama's face. Watch Iwakiyama's face carefully. Iwakiyama was so angry, but instantaneously Iwakiyama controlled his emotion and give a hand to Yoshikaze to help to come up to DOHYOU. I love this Iwakiyama's attitudes. (Sign of approval)
Hakuyobaku Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Day 12, Kasugao-Homasho.. Valiant display of sumo for about 4 minutes from both rikishi. If that was grunting that I heard and it came from either rikishi, then it's the first time I see(hear) this. That adds some spice too. And the climactic yoritaoshi that could have been monoii'd but well you can never tell it from the stream
Asojima Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Day 12 - Homasho vs. Kasugao Homasho lost the match, but showed amazing strength, endurance and balance. He is going to become a formidable maegashira in time.
aderechelsea Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 add Tokitenku-Futeno from day 12 in that list. great endurance from Futeno (or rather lack of killer instinct from Tokitenku) and a great susoharai at the end ....
Yuriyama Ren Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 I think it is fair to say that Hakuho-Asashouryuu bout from senshuuraku should be on this list. Truly excellent show. (Sign of approval)
aderechelsea Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 the two best doing their best and the best one wins ..... (I am not worthy...) G R E A T ! ! ! ! !
Asojima Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Day 15 - Roho vs. Kotomitsuki. Roho played a great game of leapfrog for a man his size. :'-(
