Yuriyama Ren Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 So.. Is Kato the only one in Mae-zumo currently?

Yuriyama Ren Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 It was said that one of the numerous banzuke-gai rikishi also entered mae-zumo, and will thus return on the banzuke next basho. So there are two... Hmm.. Interesting. A whole division consisting of just 2 rikishi. It seems bit unlikely though that just the two of them are going to fight until one gets 3 wins.. (Blushing...) Thanks for the info.
Jejima Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 maezumo is not really a division, it is like a pre-division. I think that if there are just two of them, they will fight each other three times :)
Asashosakari Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 maezumo is not really a division, it is like a pre-division.I think that if there are just two of them, they will fight each other three times :) Yes, I suspect they'll do it like Haru basho and just go on until one of them has 2 wins (rather than the usual 3), so at most 3 bouts will probably take place.
Yuriyama Ren Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 According to the Chiganoura blog, Katou will have his first bout tomorrow. He will (or might?) be changing his shikona to Masunoyama (I hope this is the correct pronounciation of 舛ノ山 (Punk rocker...) ). Apparently this is the second time in recent history that there's been just 1 recruit. Seems the previous one went to Kasugano stable while the current coach of Chiganoura was still an active rikishi there. Too bad he doesn't mention the exact date or name.. Jonosuke Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Kato will be debuting as Masunoyama on Day 3. It's possible that they have a couple of Banzuke gai rikishis coming back so he will get his share. It's likekly that they only have two days of Mae-zumo.
