Jejima Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 I think I would have preferred Baruto to test his strength against Hakuho. This was a great opportunity for him to show the rest of the Makunouchi Division his potential - even if he had lost, it would probably have been close. Instead he opted for a henka. (Dislaimer: I know it is allowed. I know it is not cheating. I know it is a legitimate technique etc)
yamaneko Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 i didnt watch the replay but it looked like one of those things where therse an initial hit, then you reach for the belt throw , which i dont think is a henka. Im sure one of the wise and all knowning posters will set it straight before the night is over.
Peterao Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Didn't seem like a henka to me, but it certainly wasn't a Dejima-of-old like tachiai either.
lenc Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 The question is who are you accusing of doing a henka? Baruto or Hakuho?
Hananotaka Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Not a henka. Both wanted a left uwate, both went for it from the start. They hit each other off-center with their right shoulders. Hakuho quickly opened up, got the uwate, and went for the dashi-nage.
Jejima Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 (edited) I bow to all the aboves better judgement (and those who have probably seen the replays too.) And I will happily close this topic. (Laughing...) Edit: If I could work out how to, that is.... Edited May 21, 2006 by Jejima

sildan Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 (edited) I'm not so sure this wasn't a henka, since it was a definite shift left as compared to Hakuho's normal tachi-ai. I'm not too fond of tachi-ai's that aren't straight on (whether or not there's a henka), but this one didn't bother me that much. Hakuho seemed to be looking ahead to the real test of the tournament, the play-off with Miyabiyama. Not that Baruto is anything resembling a pushover, but the big battle of the moment wasn't against him. I think I would have preferred Baruto to test his strength against Hakuho. I think (hope!) you'll get this wish many, many times in the future.... Edited May 21, 2006 by sildan
