Taizeniki Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) I suppose this has been discussed before, but why don't Baruto and Homasho sport the traditional oh-ichoh-mage? Is it because they are newbees to the upper rank? Edited May 8, 2006 by Taizeniki
Jakusotsu Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Short answer: has something to do with natural growth. (see first word of this post and you'll almost be there by a hair...)
aderechelsea Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 they both came up the ranks too fast to have hair long enough for an oicho-mage (in case Jakusotsu's reply wasn't that clear)

(Blushing...) thanks for the chuckle.... however, their hair looks 'long enough' to me... but what do I know... i'm no tokoyama.... (Blushing...)
aderechelsea Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 if you look a profile pic of a chonmage you can see that the hair are close to the skull at the back of the head, while when you have an oicho-mage the hair make a curve (i really cannot think of a word to describe it) that takes more hair to be done .... if you also look at a front pic of two rikishi with chon or oicho mages you can spot this curvy (what the hell am i talking about?) thing i so poorly describe ...

Cammy Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 they both came up the ranks too fast to have hair long enough for an oicho-mage I bet alot of people wish they would have that problem.
Yubiquitoyama Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 (edited) they both came up the ranks too fast to have hair long enough for an oicho-mage I bet alot of people wish they would have that problem. It's (naturally) more common with Makushita tsukedashi who have been known to come into the paid ranks without even able to make a regular chon-mage. I think it normally takes about 1 to 2 years for a rikishi to be able to have a chon-mage and 2 to 3 before ready for an o-icho-mage. I suppose in cases such as Hakurozan the process will eventually be reversed (Punk rocker...) Edited May 9, 2006 by Yubiquitoyama
Manekineko Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I remember Miya (flabbyblobmonster) didn't even have enough hair for chon-mage when he came to makuuchi. He was tsukedashi, wasn't he?

I suppose in cases such as Hakurozan the process will eventually be reversed (Whistling...) Miyabiyama is a good example. He had straight slicked back hair in his first Makuuchi basho, maybe even his first two. They got it into a chon-mage as soon as possible, but it was the most pathetic looking thing you'd ever seen. A "choi-mage", rather than a "chon-mage"...

sekihiryu Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Roho is fast catching his brother in the receding hairline stakes, makes me wonder why they dont get some sponsorship from a hair regrowth/hair replacement company.

That's because, as I have learned from my own experience, the only thing that can stop falling hair is the floor.
