It's not acne, it's Chinese medicine. It's done with vacuum cups, but I don't know the word for it. I tried to search for a web page that explains it, but I don't know the name of it.

It's not moxibustion, but it's in the same tradition, I think, with moxibustion and acupuncture. The suction cups essentially leave large hickeys.

Well that explains it then. I sort of had that idea, just didn't realize they still did that. It just looked so strange! Large polka dots!

Yes it was popular in Europe in the old times and nowadays it's coming back in alternative practises and naturopathy - with good results as I read in a magazine.

Thank you for the link Exil. This site mentions that this cupping can be used "in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia, and bronchitis. Cupping is also used to treat back, neck, shoulder, and other musculoskeletal pain". I have not heard anything about Ama having a cold so I am assuming he has some normal sumo aches and pains (Blushing...)
