Senpai Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 (edited) Bart's debute got a fine start against Homasho with yorikiri. No real danger or fight from Homasho in this bout. yamaneko Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Dominating debut. This is what we should have been seeing 2 basho ago if his dang appendix wouldnt have burst.
Jaffa Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Congratulations to Baruto on his first Makuuchi win (and prize money) from Estonians in Kabul! Off topic: Kabuli p
Araiguma_Rascal Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Maybe it's too early to say, but I am starting to think that Baruto will soon surpass all others but Asashoryu, and will even rival the Yokozuna very soon. I expect he will be Ozeki by early in 2007. I don't think he will have any problem getting about 12 wins this time and even more would not suprise me too much.

Well Bart himself told that 8-7 is a good result and all above that would be a great bonus but very difficult to achieve on this tournament as he is just learning the ways of the makuuchi.

It is a style of life of Estonians - to be reserved, modest and very polite and to attack if it is necessary with all his strength and power.
Kishinoyama Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 It is a style of life of Estonians - to be reserved, modest and very polite and to attack if it is necessary with all his strength and power.Which is the reason he fits so perfectly into sumo (Blushing...) .

Yes, it is clear that Baruto is half-man, half-god. Please refer to my post in the Baruto poll thread.
yamaneko Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Its way to early to be talking about this but you never know.... Maybe bart could be promoted to komusubi all the way from M11. Tamanoumi was promoted from M14 with a zensho yusho in 57 Takatoriki was promtoed from M14 with a 13-2 yusho Kiyokuni was promoted to sekiwake from m13 with 14-1 runner up Kotofuji was promoted to komusubi from m13 with a 14-1 yusho Tagaryu was promoted to komusubi from m12 with a 13-2 yusho Kotonishiki was promoted to komusubi from m12 with a 14-1 yusho Ryuko was promoted to komusubi from m11 with a 13-2 runner up Kitaseumi was promoted to komusubi from m11 with a 12-3 basho
Senpai Posted May 7, 2006 Author Posted May 7, 2006 Wow, let's calm down now and not jump a way ahead after only this first win. Let's talk about those things again when he has reached KK at least. Until then let's talk about more realistic happenings around Bart. ;-) Altough I'm happy that there is that much of support towards him ... I shall tell him tomorrow.
Jonosuke Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 While watching the NHK broadcast on Day 1, they had great shots of Baruto and Homasho prior to their bout. At the back of Hanamichi while Homasho kept doing "teppos" perhaps trying to calm his nerves, Baruto was standing at the other side yawning, looking relaxed and business as usual. NHK's play-by-play man, Kariya announcer, mentioned Baruto exactly weighs and is as tall as the legendary Raiden Tame-emon (I believe Raiden was 197 cm tall and weighed 170 kg).
Sasanishiki Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 NHK's play-by-play man, Kariya announcer, mentioned Baruto exactly weighs and is as tall as the legendary Raiden Tame-emon (I believe Raiden was 197 cm tall and weighed 170 kg). Well, that is adding the same kind of hype as some of our Forum's members are!! But seriously, I'm glad to see him doing well after the illness set back he had before. I'm also happy he had his first win. I look forward to following his sumo for the next few days to see how he will go against some seasoned veterans. I hope he can get KK out of the way soon so that he can climb the banzuke.
ilovesumo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) Oops. Big guys shouldn't do such a Tachi ai. I was sure he will loose soon, and Tochi is a good Rikishi, studied Bart very well. He still has to learn a lot. Edited May 8, 2006 by ilovesumo
Senpai Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Day 2 and Bart got first defeat in long time against Tochinohana. M11w Baruto (1-1) oshidashi M10w Tochinohana (2-0)
AsaMoe Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Ok, i post this, after Baruto got defeated today, but i was sure before hand. The difference between Juryu und Makuuchi and Sanyaku is very big and every rikishi i remember in my "sumo watching career" faced a point, where he bounced back. Though i see Baruto as an excellent Ozeki shot, i doubt, that he will make 12 wins this basho nor be Ozeki in one year.
ilovesumo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) Bart's Tachi ai was too high, so Tochi got him and after a little dance, Bart lost. Edited May 8, 2006 by ilovesumo
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Baruto, similarly to Kotooshu, needs to work on his tachiai, because it is usually too high and open to otsuke from experienced wrestlers, such as Tochinohana. While Baruto can easily dominate most of the hiramaku at the moment, he is boud to have problems with the more experienced ones, who manage to get inside of him and push him up with otsuke. Nothing is lost yet, of course, as I think that Baruto will still be able to get his kachikoshi, but I think that he will have to work hard for double digits. Anyways, Baruto, ganbare!
Senpai Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 He has told himself too that tachi-ai is something to work for. Well Riki tomorrow is another chance to get his second in makuuchi. If Bart won't loose the tachi-ai against Riki I think he will win. If not .. well there is always something to learn from losses.
lenc Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Baruto's bout today: http://www.nuclear.pri.ee/sumo/Natsu_Day2_...Tochinohana.wmv He started well with pushing Tochinohana backwards but then Tochinohana was able to break Baruto's grip and started to push him out. Baruto tried to throw Tochinohana but that didn't come out so Tochinohana was able to push Bart out of the ring.
Jakusotsu Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) Thanks for sharing! Can't say that Baruto's tachiai was too high - looked perfectly normal to me. He just got beaten fair and square, that's all. (just like one unnamed dude in Chain Gang...) (In a state of confusion...) Edited May 8, 2006 by Jakusotsu
Senpai Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Looked like he tried to copy Taikai's attack but he didn't hit Tochinohanas chest correctly but did it too high and then he lost control and gave Tochinohana an advantage.
