Kintamayama Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) Visibly injured? - because of hard tapped knee? Hmm, look at Dejima or Kotomitsuki :-D As for me his performance (9-6) was still "too good" as for serious injury. I don't buy all this crap about his dead knee. I just express my point of view and I am not hijacking anything (especially this thread) :-D Over. (Showing respect...) Well Mr. Shimpu, EVERYONE (except you,I guess)) knows he was injured rather seriously before the basho, to an extent that there was a strong possibility of his going kyujo. It was written in many papers, so it's not "Sadogatake Stories". Then , he injured his ankle, as EVERYONE (except you) knows, yet kept on. Even Asashouryuu, who cannot be regarded as a conspirator, (or maybe he can?/) commended him for his guts. So did many others, Oyakatas included. Yet, you don't buy "all this crap".. I've seen you buy lesser "crap", lately, Mr. Shimpu. Edited March 27, 2006 by Kintamayama
Yubiquitoyama Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) I like the idea. The Razzberry Sansho. But only for fun and humor. (Showing respect...) Of course, it is only for fun and humor. I don't represent the Kyokai. I am not the media. As a plebian and obsequious member of an obscure minor sport fan forum, my opinion is worth hardly "2 cents" or however many Euros that would buy--on the black market or otherwise. :-D I must say the reactions to this topic was (to me) surprisingly strong, so I feel I must tell you that I personally found the original post extremely entertaining and practically right on the money (Swedish crowns), so please keep up the good work :-D Edited March 27, 2006 by Yubiquitoyama
Manekineko Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Just adding "hear hear" to Yubi's comment, although I might disagree on Osh's case. But he's a Sadogatake, and I'm biased. (Showing respect...)
sekihiryu Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 In regards to kotooshu - I personally went to Sadogatake Beya 5 days out from the Basho and Kotooshu did virtually nothing the whole practice, just standing there sullenly. If he was milking it then he did a fantastic job at sucking me in, but I seriously doubt it. He must have had some pretty decent injections everyday and was gritting his teeth and sucking it up, sad that he has to do so, but he did what he felt he had to do and I take my hat off to him for his courage. Consequently by doing so he is risking permanent injury for his job.
Naganoyama Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I love the idea. Also I'm perfectly happy with the general level of disagreement in this thread. Mado-san generously stuck his neck out and various forum members attempted to chop it. Surely that's what a Forum is about - discussion - sometimes heated - preferably always courteous.
Cammy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I think that this is a good idea, and I am a big movie fan, and love that you chose the Razzy...hands down one of the funniest things ever for movie awards. Sure there will be people that will pick people they don't like, but still this can be really funny. And ugliest Rikishi might be the best topic. I would say most disapoitned for me would be Toki...but I have become used to the idea of him doing bad.
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 And ugliest Rikishi might be the best topic. F (Censored) king excellent! It's not enough to lambast professional sportsmen doing their best for our amusement! Their very physical appearance must be ridiculed! HOW LOW YOU (Censored) OZUMO (Censored) "FANS" CAN GO?!?!?!?!?! WHAT THE (Censored) IS GOING ON IN YOUR HEADS!?!?!?!??!?!
Kashunowaka Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 F (Censored) king excellent! It's not enough to lambast professional sportsmen doing their best for our amusement! Kashunowaka Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I was a bit upset, you see... Yes. You can always edit your message and make the font a little smaller ... (Dribbling...)
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I believe there's a ban coming... (Clapping wildly...) (Dribbling...) (Sigh...)
Kintamayama Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I believe there's a ban coming... (Clapping wildly...) (Dribbling...) (Sigh...) For using large fonts?
Exil Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I believe there's a ban coming... (Clapping wildly...) (Sigh...) (Clapping wildly...) Why? Is there something I don't know? (Dribbling...)

Well I didn't mean to offened anyone, personally I don't see much of a difference in making fun of a persons sumo and making fun of the person. If you would like I will go back and edit and take out the ugliest Rikishi if you would like.
Cammy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 How about 'Most Disappointing Performance' The rikishi who promised the most only not to deliver. I nominate Kotomitsuki... (again)'Most Impressive Injury' - Ama (has to be). Or 'Ugliest Rikishi' - lots of competition there! Hokutoriki didn't look injured, just not interested - but you never know. Roho - definitely most technically inept. He does sometimes look as if he really doesn't know which sport he is supposed to be practising... his brother looks like that occasionally too, but I think he has more talent. Neither float my boat at all though... Also I wasn't the only person to say that Kotoseiya Yuichi.
Flying_Monkey Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Some people here need a sense of humour and an anger management course. (Clapping wildly...) This thread (and indeed this Forum) isn't a competition to see who is the most serious about Sumo. It's for fans of Sumo. We are all fans, and we all express out love for the sport in different ways. No-one can dictate to others what how they can do this, as long as we do it within the bounds of the Forum rules. This thread is silly fun. I did not suggest there should be a proper serious competition for ugliest rikishi. It is called a JOKE (like all of these suggestions). And besides, if you really think that Rikishi are really good-looking guys, then you need to get your eyes tested as well. Strong, dedicated, extraordinary in motion and skilled to degrees that most of us can't imagine - but most of them are not lookers and the sport neither requires them to be so, nor pays much attention to conventional looks. For someone to seriously suggest that we all CANNOT think that any rikishi are ugly even in jest, is simply a ludicrous kind of humourless and intolerant political correctness. Have a cup of herbal tea and calm down. (Applauding...)

THANKS Good to see that someone gets the point of a joke. don't worry. i think most forumers agree with you. I can't imagine anyone getting so upset about an online vote for ugliest F1 driver, or ugliest Hollywood actor. Sumo is a sport, and it is art, and either is a suitable subject for jest.

sumolady Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 OTOH Kotooshu (despite badmouthing him occasionally myself) deserved more recognition for staying through the whole basho. He is a banner Ozeki as we all know he is enourmously popular so if he missed it, there would have been many fans who have been going home disappointed not seeing him. Remember these guys only appear in Osaka once a year so I really respect his will to be there for the fans. Despite the injuries he got 9 wins so he fulfilled his responsibility as Ozeki under the circumstance. It's hard to be objective about Osh, because he keeps coming across as such a weenie to the press. He's a good rikishi and probably has a long career ahead of him, but he needs a quick course in PR. FWIW, I've had that ACL tear, and it hurts like hell, and I can't imagine "going into battle" with that kind of injury, so recently acquired.
Kishinoyama Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) It's hard to be objective about Osh, because he keeps coming across as such a weenie to the press. He's a good rikishi and probably has a long career ahead of him, but he needs a quick course in PR. At the moment, he has taken over the "bad boy" role from Asashoryu. Someone else will come along and the heat will be taken off of Osh. He has a lot of talent and I expect high quality sumo for years to come. (Blushing...) Edited March 29, 2006 by Kishinoyama
