Kintamayama Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I also noticed the fact that no sekitori was kyujo from the start, and no one left so far. I, being superstitious, decided I'm clamming up till the basho is over. Then, a topic was opened on this subject. Now, Sadogatake Oyakata says Osh sprained his right ankle today (I noticed something out of the ordinary while watching Osh's landing into the crowd on the stream..)and said they will decide tomorrow if he goes Kyujo. This, coupled with the knee injury, should send Osh to the showers. Oh.. he probably won't come over either.. Drats..
aderechelsea Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 that would be a real let-down (if it happens) now that the yuso race is heating up. i hope at least Hakuho beats his nemesis and we'll take the fight on to senshuraku
Ikkakujuu Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Yeah Osh was humping. I think he should go Kyujo. After all in his condition he is no match for Asa. He can only risk worse injury. Let pride rest so that he could come firing next basho. BTW my feeling is that if he was completely healthy he would have won at least 14 bouts and probably the yusho. Ama, Miya and Hakuho won because of his bad knee. May be in may.
roydrager Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Did anyone consider Tochiazuma's move today a henka? I didn't. It was like Ama's move, a solid tachai and then a fast turn. Two days in a row that Tochiazuma has fought smart. But man nobody takes it easy on Kotooshu, they all take advantage of his knee. Kotooshu is so mentally tough. "This is a world of winners and losers. It really doesn't matter if you are injured." I didn't like him before but now I cannot help it.
Kashunowaka Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Too bad for the yusho race if Asashoryu gets a free win tomorrow. OTOH, Hakuho might get a free win on senshuraku if Kotomitsuki wins tomorrow against Kaio.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 BTW my feeling is that if he was completely healthy he would have won at least 14 bouts and probably the yusho. Ama, Miya and Hakuho won because of his bad knee. May be in may. I bet 10 euros that Kotooshu will never get over 13 wins in makuuchi.
iwokayama Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I bet 100 euros that Kotooshu will get over 13 wins this year.
madorosumaru Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I bet 10 euros that Kotooshu will never get over 13 wins in makuuchi. You are being overly generous. Put my 10 euros in the pot, too. What is that worth in American money? 2 cents? (Sigh...)
Avitohol Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 (edited) I bet 100 euros that Kotooshu will get over 13 wins this year. you bet, but he won't take your bet (Sigh...) Edited March 24, 2006 by Avitohol
Fukurou Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 But man nobody takes it easy on Kotooshu, they all take advantage of his knee. Aren't they supposed to take advantage of every opening he gives them?
Kintamayama Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 Osh went to the hospital-there is no fracture. "I'm OK", he muttered. "We shall see in asageiko tomorrow. If he doesn't show up, we'll have to think about it", added Sadogatake Oyakata.
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 You are being overly generous. Put my 10 euros in the pot, too. What is that worth in American money? 2 cents? (Dribbling...) 10 EUR equals 12.03 USD. What have Europeans done to you?
Otokonoyama Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) Yeah Osh was humping.. dunno what this means where you come from but i have a completely different take on that verb. something similar to petrs night keiko (Dribbling...) In (American?) military parlance, IIRC humping would refer to pushing oneself hard, really exerting oneself, etc. ペータ語には分からんだけど。。。 Edited March 25, 2006 by Otokonoyama
Flying_Monkey Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 It was actually sad watching Osh today and it gave Asa an easy win...
Jakusotsu Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 It was actually sad watching Osh today and it gave Asa an easy win...This bout could be a nice starting point for another oshidashi-tsukidashi discussion.
Olenishiki Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 It was actually sad watching Osh today and it gave Asa an easy win... But did you see the look Asa gave Osh at the end of the bout? Asa of the post-win stuff-you glance actually looked at Osh with what seemed to be respect and sympathy. I think he admired Osh standing up to him in spite of injuries.
Asojima Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Ok, here's one for the stats nuts. How long has it been since there has been a basho without a sekitori fusen or withdrawal. By my reckoning, this is only the fifth basho since Aki 1998 where all the yokozunas and ozekis will appear on senshuraku.

By my reckoning, this is only the fifth basho since Aki 1998 where all the yokozunas and ozekis will appear on senshuraku. Maybe I did something wrong, but as I saw it, it happened only two times in Heisei so far, Hatsu 1990 and Nagoya 1993. So this would be the first time in 77 basho...

If the guy knew he wouldn't fight why to go up on dohyo. Asa was looking confused.
Kintamayama Posted March 25, 2006 Author Posted March 25, 2006 Such a waste. If the guy knew he wouldn't fight why to go up on dohyo. Asa was looking confused. I think you mean he "couldn't' fight. Well, KaioU is in the same situation and look where he is. And don't be too sure Osh will lose tomorrow either. Remember Tamanoshima last basho with a broken everything, yet continuing and winning? This is what is called "Sumo Pride". Some may think it is dumb and career-endangering, but some think henka is wrong too. I admire it.

Do you happen to know what kind of injuries our makushitans have gotten last and this basho? Such a bummer, they have the injuries while they were on raise. Any news please.

Such a bummer, they have the injuries while they were on raise. Any news please. No. Two didn't start and two injured in the middle is a lot, considering that until now Mongolian rikishi had very few injuries comparatively.

He can't even do proper sonkyou. All he can do at the moment is stand. He has balls!!" Asashouryuu showing respect for Osh.
