Tokimori Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 Today's match against Wakanoyama was OK. Typical Toki match. Some of these he wins, some he loses... (Just do not get it...) I have hope against Akinoshima tomorrow! Go Toki!
Tokimori Posted May 14, 2003 Author Posted May 14, 2003 Toki was good today too. He managed to stay off the mawashi and go round in circles. And finally, a nice pulldown. Hatakikomi!
Tokimori Posted May 17, 2003 Author Posted May 17, 2003 I haven't seen his last three matches, but 5-2 is very good! The banzuke yoyo rolls on!
QttP Posted May 17, 2003 Posted May 17, 2003 I haven't seen his last three matches, but 5-2 is very good! The banzuke yoyo rolls on! Today an easy win against Gojoro - a step back and Gojoro falls...
Yoavoshimaru Posted May 17, 2003 Posted May 17, 2003 And he should have another win againast Takanotsuru tomorrow, raising his record to 6-2: very good! (Clapping wildly...)
Takanobaka Posted May 17, 2003 Posted May 17, 2003 And he should have another win againast Takanotsuru tomorrow, raising his record to 6-2: very good! (Clapping wildly...) Yeah, but you gotta love the all-chops match..... And just a quick blast from the past. Not quite the same Toki, but only a little less hairy than Takanotsuru...
Naifuzan Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 Eight days' gone by and Toki's in second place! Let's hope he can keep it up and maybe even earn his first tournament prize! (Sign of approval)
Takanobaka Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 Either way, barring injury or other disaster, he's on his way back up. M11 is a little too low for this guy. Hopefully he'll be able to put it all together soon and get over that hump; otherwise, he'll be bouncing around Maegashira for quite a while....
Tokimori Posted May 18, 2003 Author Posted May 18, 2003 He will never bounce up from Maegashira. He can't handle the sanyaku and he beats the lower maegashira. He's the perennial yoyo! (Sign of approval)
Zentoryu Posted May 18, 2003 Posted May 18, 2003 Let's hope he can keep it up and maybe even earn his first tournament prize! I'm willing to say there is almost no chance of his winning a tournament prize. He has no technique to speak of, thus ruling out the Gino-Sho. He could win the Fighting Spirit Prize, but given his tendancy to sometimes resort to pull downs and slap downs, I somehow doubt he would get it. His record would really have to be outstanding. He has no shot at the Outstanding Performance Prize from his rank (unless they bring him up and he beats Asashoryu and Chiyotaikai.... ;-) ) His best chance is the FSP, but I just doubt it very much. He'll rise back up into the Maegashira meatgrinder, but I doubt there would be any prize accompanying him on the trip.
Kashunowaka Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 (edited) He has no shot at the Outstanding Performance Prize from his rank (unless they bring him up and he beats Asashoryu and Chiyotaikai.... ;-) ) If I count correctly, Toki has had 29 (twenty-nine!) chances to win a kinboshi, i.e. a maegashira win against a yokozuna. But he has never succeded - neither in Aki 1999 when he faced Wakanohana, who had a disastrous basho and went makekoshi, nor in Hatsu 2003 when he faced Takanohana, who was injured but returned to the basho and retired three days later. (Sign of disapproval) (I am not worthy...) Edit: besides, Toki and Asashoryu are now in the same heya, so his chances for kinboshi are currently zero. Edited May 19, 2003 by Kashunowaka
Tokimori Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 (edited) There could always be a playoff... :) Good hikkake today, BTW Edited May 19, 2003 by Tokimori
Kashunowaka Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 There could always be a playoff... :) ;-) Rumour has it that there is also another yokozuna, so Toki's chances for a kinboshi aren't quite zero. (I am not worthy...)
Doitsuyama Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 A playoff wouldn't help either. Playoff bouts are officially outside hon-basho, so no official kinboshi here.
Tokimori Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 Rumour has it that there is also another yokozuna, so Toki's chances for a kinboshi aren't quite zero. The probability of Toki pushing the Moose around is zero... A playoff wouldn't help either. Playoff bouts are officially outside hon-basho, so no official kinboshi here. Has there ever been a playoff bout between a yokozuna and a maegashira?
Kashunowaka Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Has there ever been a playoff bout between a yokozuna and a maegashira? Yes. You can find the complete list at Chiyozakura's web site.
Tokimori Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 No maegashira ever won a playoff match against a yokozuna... So, very slim chance for Toki.... (Sign of disapproval)
Yoavoshimaru Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 I think today's bout with Jumonji should be interesting. It's one bout I wouldn't have predicted as interesting at the beginning of the basho, but now 7-2 vs 6-3, with Jumonji winning two months ago... Hmm... (Ranting...)
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 The probability of Toki pushing the Moose around is zero... Actually...can't remember the exact occasions by heart but Toki has pushed Moose around on couple of occasions nearly getting that kinboshi. "Nearly" is a relative concept but Toki has forced Maru into reverse mode. Once even got the crowd gasping for the bintsuke fumes in Kokugikan when he bulldozed forward eyes glowing and breathing in optimal rhytm as Maru backpedaled before snapping out of it and beating Toki. In this basho Toki has been good. Some neat wins like the hikkake and some forward moving too. Hoshifransu has a Tokitoki-site at http://tokitoki.free.fr/ For some reason it uploads slowly.
Yoavoshimaru Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Hoshifransu has a Tokitoki-site at http://tokitoki.free.fr/For some reason it uploads slowly. Very very slowly -- I gave up after waiting for a couple of minutes (Ranting...) B-)
Tokimori Posted May 20, 2003 Author Posted May 20, 2003 (edited) Good bout today as well! He never gave up like he did last basho, but instead he continued with nodo-wa and waited for the right opportunity. (Sign of approval) Kachi-koshi! ;-) Edited May 20, 2003 by Tokimori
Dejimasama Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 (Sign of approval) Sweet Toki with KK. Makes it a great basho already ;-)
Tokimori Posted May 26, 2003 Author Posted May 26, 2003 And what a great basho it was! His best basho since Natsu 2001, when he had a stellar 11-4 at M13E, including wins over Kotomitsuki, Wakanosato, Aminishiki and Akinoshima. I'm impressed by his fighting spirit this basho. It was something sorely missed the last two bashos. Very impressive kotenage against Shimotori day 1! Also good to stay in the final bout against Kyokutenho! :-D :-D (Holiday feeling...) :-D (Sign of approval)
Yoavoshimaru Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 Toki was better than M11 this time, no doubt. He'll probably land in the M6 area for Nagoya. We'll see how he does there: a KK at 8-7 would be a possible, pleasant surprise. :-D
