yamaneko Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Pretty surprising inasmuch as he is nursing some kind of injury. Ive seen him only twice in the NHK broadcasts when they do a juryo reply of the top bout, and he has looked like one of the most well rounded guys Ive seen. Mix of power, technique, balance, good forward sumo. I wonder if he can keep it up. He hasnt gone agasint the other leaders yet like homasho, kyokunankai, etc. so we shall see. Hes half way there. If he looses twice he still has an excellent shot at yusho IMO.
Senpai Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 (edited) Has NHK showed him this basho too on those juryo top bouts? If yes then that's a damn pitty if no-one haven't recorded them! But yeah he is injured altough he has told that the injury is holding pretty well and when fighting he forgets about the pain. Hopefully he'll win in next days as well and keep up going for a yusho altough he tought before basho that he's main goal is to achieve KK. And good work from Satoyama too as he took down Kyokunankai giving Bart an early lead. Edited March 19, 2006 by Senpai
yamaneko Posted March 19, 2006 Author Posted March 19, 2006 i have it on my DVR recorded, but not sure if there is a connection that i can connect to my computer. If there is, then ill try to record and post them.
Araiguma_Rascal Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 It looks like Bart is going to be The Next Big Thing pretty soon, huh. From what I've seen he looks like he can already compete with the big boys around the top of Makuuchi. Is it possible he could be in Makuuchi next tournament from Juryou 11?
Senpai Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 On day 9 Bart will face the toughest opponent this basho as Hochiyama has been a troubling opponent for Bart giving always headache for Bart to get a win if at all. Somehow Hochiyama feels himself very comfortable against Bart. We'll see how it turns out this time!
aderechelsea Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 didn't know how comfortable Hochiyama felt against Bart but instinctively i picked Hochi in Seki-toto for tomorrow's bout .... we'll see
Senpai Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 So, Baruto got his ninth win and all other yusho contenders didn't made a mistake either. Now looks like kyokai starts to really put together pairs that will decide what will start deciding who's who this basho. I would think tomorrows bout between Bart and Homasho can decide the yusho winner as I don't think Kyokunankai has that power to the end to fight for it and already bout against Ryuho tomorrow will show something. Other intresting nd important bouts will be held between Mokonami-Tosanoumi, Takanowaka-Daimanazuru, Katayama-Kaiho, Dairaido-Shimotori, Kobo-Tamarikido. Bouts that might make changes in the lines of rikishi fighting for the first prize. Top bout tomorrow IMO will be Homasho-Baruto in juryo. Does anyone dare to predict how many wins will get Bart this basho? Who will win yusho and jun-yusho? Who thinks Bart will win tomorrow? Who will be Bart's last 5 opponents? I would predict that Takanowaka, Shimotori, Katayama, Kyokunankai and Tosanoumi and in that order too. What you think?
yamaneko Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 i just want to see bart go undefeated, to get a promotion to makuuchi, and then win yusho from like Maegashira 15. HAHAHA, ya, in my dreams. Seriously though, i see him going 12 and 3 or 13 and 2, and still winning yusho.
yamaneko Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 I was thinking about heating walls just now, baruto really hasnt, right? You dont call getting injured heating a wall, do you? Thats more like the wall falling down on you and injuring you, but you get right back up and keep going. When do you guys think that baruto will heat the wall as far as an earned makekoshi goes?
Kurinoku Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Nishinoshima, I think you have defined the secret formula of the success of my countryman... :-)
Asashosakari Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Who will be Bart's last 5 opponents? I would predict that Takanowaka, Shimotori, Katayama, Kyokunankai and Tosanoumi and in that order too. What you think? I wouldn't be surprised if they work in some high-ranking Juryo who's on the cusp of promotion to Makuuchi, like Ryuho, Daimanazuru or Mokonami...sort of a promotion playoff between that guy and Baruto.

It sounds like "if you beat Bart you have a chance for promotion if not then sorry but you are not ready for big guns yet"!
Asashosakari Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 It sounds like "if you beat Bart you have a chance for promotion if not then sorry but you are not ready for big guns yet"! Hah! :-/ No, that's not what I mean, though it could very well apply, too. What I meant is that the Kyokai usually isn't only concerned with delivering all the yusho-deciding bouts, but also to make sure that the number of promotion candidates isn't too high or too low. Normally they'll do that by putting the candidates against Makuuchi opponents, but in a case where somebody dominates from the bottom of Juryo, it makes sense to use him as the spoiler. If the top-ranker wins, Baruto gets taken out of the promotion race, and if Baruto wins, he helps clear up the situation at the top and makes it more likely that there might be a spot for him (even from J11).
yamaneko Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Bart keeps racking up the wins here. 10-0 now and today was maybe his toughest opponent in homasho. if kyokunankai would have lost, i think that almost would have guranteed him yusho. As it stands, nankai remains 1 behind only.

As it stands, nankai remains 1 behind only. Hope that NHK guys think of that as the top bout of the day and I can see how 10-0 came. As I still think it was the yusho deciding match. And tough Kykunankai suprisingly still has only one loss, I don't think that it will stay like that for a long. Edited March 21, 2006 by Senpai
yamaneko Posted March 22, 2006 Author Posted March 22, 2006 Does anyone think that baruto locked it up today with a win to put him at 11-0 with the two nearest guys with 2 losses. He would have to lose two and the other guys win all of their remaining bouts just to tie him. I think he might have yusho locked up, but how can we forget didnt kotooshu have like a 2 win lead on asa after day 11 one basho only to lose it to him?
Senpai Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 So tomorrow there will be Tosanoumi against Baruto on last bout of juryo .. and that means that beside of the hopefully great fight, we are going to see it on stream too. Well those will see who can. Sadly not me. Therefor I would ask that is there anyone who could record that bout from stream as we can't be sure that NHK will show that bout like they didn't show Bart vs Homasho yesterday .. at least there weren't any video on Banzuke.com!

ikishima Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 (edited) Former Ozeki Kotokaze was promoted from J11w to M14w at Kyushu in 1979 with a 14-1 record. 13-2 from J10w was enough to get Tenryu and Banryuyama to M13 and M14. It got Konishiki only to J2e. (You have got to love hakke yoi.) A 14-1 if he gets to beat the other promotion canidates could get him there. Today he gets Tosanomi. I think three more wins gets him there. Edited March 22, 2006 by ikishima
