iwokayama Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Let's vote for our two pretenders in Haru. My opinion is that they both will fail. Edited March 2, 2006 by iwokayama
Fay Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Asashoryu will win the yusho :-) so no chance for Tochiazuma, but Hakuho will make it to Ozeki (Applauding...) (I tell this fortunes by my cards .... ;-) ) (and besides I've seen that Kyokutenho and Tokitenku will make a Kashi Koshi (Applauding...) ) Edited March 2, 2006 by Fay
Shibouyama Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 My prediction is: Tochiazuma will fail with 11 or 12 wins (although I hope I'm wrong) Hakuho will succeed with 11 or 12 wins (I read some tea leaves to reach this conclusion. Further evidence was revealed in the mysterious appearance of Hakuho's (or the Buddha's, maybe) image in a plate of curry rice. :-)
Manekineko Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 My (Heart) says Azuma! My (Applauding...) says Hakuho... I listened to reason, but still hope it was :-) ... (Applauding...)
Shimpu Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Tochiazuma - if stay healthy to the very end. I think he is ready now. Now or never. :-) Hakuho will fail because of pressure. I have just realized that I am the only one Azuma supporter (Applauding...) Or only one dreamer on this poll.... Edited March 2, 2006 by Shimpu
aderechelsea Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I don't like the fact that Hakuho is going to Mongolia at this stage. He could wait to return home as an Ozeki in two months .... He is in far better position than Tochiazuma in my opiion because he needs less wins than him. If Chiyotaikai and Kaio are in the same form as in Hatsu Basho, both of them could rank up the wins needed. I see few threats left (Asa, Kotooshu?, Roho ???, Mickey ???) ... i will be supporting Hakuho in his quest as it looks like i won't be watching Kaiho's matches once more, so i need a hero .... i am not even mentioning the yusho race here cause i am certain Asa will get it, to my great pleasure. I Hakuho manages to upset him (i doubt it ) even better ....
ikishima Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Hakuho has a better chance but I don't see either of them making it this time.
Kintamayama Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 For the good of Sumo, I hope they both make it. I even actually think they will. But no steaks this time.
AsaMoe Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 I have just realized that I am the only one Azuma supporter Or only one dreamer on this poll.... Heeeeeh - there should be quite more than you. Anyway, i wonder, why i always here this now or never stuff. If Tochiazuma develops like Kaio, he still has 4 years of growth before him, including 4 Yusho and 5 chances for a promotion. The problem is more, that his competitors are younger than him and that in the beginning of 2006 the old Ozeki are no match anymore and that the younger one did not have reached their full strength. And then, the health situation with Kotoosho and Asashoryu could also help.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Tochiazuma has a good approach starting from the yusho interview where he spontaneously brought up his desire to aim for higher now. He was healthy and has been during pre-basho keiko sessions. Certainly if he stays that way he can make it and beat all ozeki and yokozuna on the way. He does looked quite vulnerable at times in Hatsu basho so it won't be easy to stack up 13 and more wins again. Crucial bouts are his encounters with Miyabiyama and Kotomitsuki. Hakuho's keiko is good and condition is good but he has very tough road ahead of him too. He is too fat already but magic is there.
Gusoyama Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 If Asashoryu puts in a standard performance, neither will get it. If Asa is still hurt, both get it.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 If Asashoryu puts in a standard performance, neither will get it. If Asa is still hurt, both get it How does this really affect their chances even if Asashoryu would go 13-0 against all others (which of course he doesn't, more like 11-2 or 10-3) before meeting them? When Tochiazuma is healthy as he seems to be now, he is no second to Shoryu in direct match-up and Hakuho is certainly a difficult foe for him in honbasho and in keiko nowadays. Point is that Asashoryu's performance is not really crucial for Azuma or Hakuho when it comes to their promotion chances. They have good chances of beating Shoryu and meet him at the end of the basho. Just an important bout for both of them but very much in their reach. Naturally Tochiazuma vs Hakuho will be one big major bout again.
ilovesumo Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 (edited) I can't think rational about those questions... (Band playing...) not now, not anyhow. We never know what might happen. Remember the broken jaws, legs, dislocs.......... My Guess, Yusho-Kyokushuzan (haha- I know) I don't know what Asashoryu will do. Hope he can win 1-2 bouts more then in January. Hakuho- It's time Hope his party won't be too big on Saturday (Nodding yes...) . Tochiazuma............hm.....no idea, no need to have an idea. This Basho will be fun, what ever happens. The pre-Basho-time was so loooong......think you all know what I mean. ^^ CANT WAIT ANY LONGER Buyuzan back as Maegashira, guess Kaiho can have a good result in the end :-) , Baruto back, Osh (Shaking head...) with Miss Japan- he might get wings (Shaking head...). I really hope that he's able to take part...damn knees.... , Aminishiki's knee might be better, Toki will take part.......I am simply happy to see them all doing their job. ;-) My heart will be with Kokkai cause of the hard time he has now. Asashosakari Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 If Asashoryu puts in a standard performance, neither will get it. If Asa is still hurt, both get it. In other words, you expect Hakuho to go exactly 10-4 the rest of the basho? Well, that's what I call being confident in a prediction...
Jesinofuji Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 For Tochiazuma, its now or never. And its going to be never. Hakuho will make it.
Bishonohana Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I have just realized that I am the only one Azuma supporter (Hugging...) Or only one dreamer on this poll.... I think you may surprised to know there are others that have that dream and is actually a fan of Tochiazuma... (Applauding...) I say YES to both Azuma and Hakuho! I am huge "dreamer!" (Sign of approval)
Shimpu Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I think you may surprised to know there are others that have that dream and is actually a fan of Tochiazuma... wub.gif Good to know, (Clapping wildly...) but there was only my vote for Azuma promotion few days ago (Clapping wildly...) so I was surprised.
Kintamayama Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 (edited) As we are off soon, a short reminder of what it may (or may not..) take for a double promotion: Past Yokozuna promotions- ◎ denotes a yusho: Oonokuni 12-3 13-2 Asahifuji 14-1-◎ 14-1◎ Akebono 14-1◎ 13-2◎ Takanohana 15-0 ◎ 15-0 ◎ Wakanohana 14-1◎ 12-3 ◎ Musashimaru 13-2 ◎ 13-2 ◎ Asashouryuu 14-1◎ 14-1◎ Tochiazuma 14-1◎ ? slt Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 I think Hakuho will make it - Tochiazuma, on the other hand... he'll probably slip up here and there, and I think that if his promotion is on the line on senshuraku, Asashoryu will definitely stand in his way. I don't think he can make it - Hakuho Ozeki (!!!), Tochiazuma... well, Ozeki as well.
hoshidango Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 My prediction is: Tochiazuma will fail with 11 or 12 wins (although I hope I'm wrong) Hakuho will succeed with 11 or 12 wins It' already 5th day but I see quite similarly; Tochiazuma for 12 wins no promotion, Hakuho for 13 wins, with promotion.
