paolo Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Sorry to ask, but I don't know how else to find the answer. Once I saw a picture with Konishiki on the dohyo before the bout started. The picture was taken from behind the other rikishi ( I do not know who he was). Konishiki appeared to be twice as big as his opponent and the photo itself was really marvellous in its way. Can somebody let me know where I can find it ? Thanks a lot. Paolo
aderechelsea Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 you probably mean this ... and it is against Mainoumi
ikishima Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Konishiki appeared to be twice as big as his opponent and the photo itself was really marvellous in its way. Konishiki 275 kg Mainoumi 100 kg, he was more than twice as big
Flying_Monkey Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 The last few mornings I have been looking after a neighbour's kids, and have therefore had the pleasure of watching Konishiki on an NHK kids' show - the other day he was in an orange monster outfit, and pretending to be a bamboo forest! Excellent... what a great guy!
paolo Posted January 26, 2006 Author Posted January 26, 2006 It may be the same picture or it is very similar to the one I remembered. I was almost sure that both rikishi's could be fully seen, including the opponent. But I cannot be sure. If you or somebody else have got another similar it will be welcome... Thanks anyway !!

Excellent... what a great guy! Yes, that program is on TV Japan, here in the USA, too. It's called Nihongo de Asobou - Let's Play with Japanese(Language). Konishiki (or Koni-chan, as he's called on the show) is always that strange orange monster and sings with his ukelele sometimes, as well. (A brave rikishi...) They teach lots of old proverbs and such on that show. Very educational! And the kids are cute, too! He does seem like a loveable guy, doesn't he?:-)

Could it be this one? Unfortunately, that's the largest version I have.

I think there are ulterior and subliminal messages hidden. If I were you, I'd stay away from TV set as far away possible not to be contaminated and corrupted (Clapping wildly...) Some who came under the influence are now discovered....check this story (Clapping wildly...) (Yusho winner...) (Yusho winner...) I never realized Mainoumi had a career 6-4 edge over Konishiki!! That is awesome. My new proof for everyone that size doesn't matter! (not that I need to prove..err.. well..)
Asashosakari Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 EDIT: this is the source Seems to be complete only back through 1995. Further matches according to szumo.hu: 94 Haru Konishiki kimedashi Mainoumi 94 Kyushu Mainoumi uchigake Konishiki Interesting that three of his wins came by okuridashi...then again, pretty much everyone seemed capable of okuri'ing Konishiki at the end of his career. Still impressive though, given the extreme weight difference.
Jakusotsu Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The three shitatenage/-hineri are even more impressive. But then again, getting an uwate against the mountain of flesh surely was next to impossible for Mighty Mouse... ;-)
paolo Posted February 1, 2006 Author Posted February 1, 2006 I would like to thank you all for your efforts in sending me the pictures I asked for. I still have an unclear feeling that I must have seen still another picture, but anyway three are enough.... Please if you find some more post them. Thanks again. Paolo
Odoriou Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I was almost sure that both rikishi's could be fully seen, including the opponent. ... Maybe you have this picture in mind: It's not Konishiki, but close enough. (I am not worthy...)

Cammy Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I found a few other pics of him, not the same angle, but just some interesting pics.
Asashosakari Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 (edited) Thank you for this. The link provided also showed that Konishiki was 1-4 against Terao. He just couldn't handle the little guys. Again, scgroup.com only includes data from 1995 forward, i.e. it only covers Konishiki's final period of decline. Szumo.hu (going back to 1989) isn't completely helpful either, since Terao and Konishiki must have had bouts as far back as 1985. Still, from 1989, Konishiki was 16-8 against Terao, 15-3 when excluding his post-Ozeki period. Hardly what I'd call "couldn't handle". Edit: Hmm, found the complete data, after all. Via the SML archives - Konishiki was a total 25-10 against Terao, which makes it 9-2 pre-1989. Again, extremely lopsided in Konishiki's favour for that early period as well. Usagi Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 A picture of s bout between Konishiki and asumable Mainoumi can as well be found on the back-cover of Aerosmith's Best Of "Big Ones". http://www.ilbaluardo.com/Cover/Audio/0-9%...%20-%20Back.jpg
