aderechelsea Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 ok i'll give it a go myself: A: Germany, Ecuador B: Sweden, Paraguay C: Argentina, Netherlands D: Mexico,Portugal E: Italy,USA F: Brazil,Australia G: France, Switzerland H: Spain,Ukraine Very weak African teams this time around. Maybe Tunisia has a chance to qualify and Ivory Coast was unlucky to get two "big names" in the group.Tongo, Ghana and Angola doesn't look too good to me. I will try to watch them in the upcoming Copa Africa to have a better opinion. last 16 Germany-Paraguay .... GER Sweden-Ecuador ... SWE Argentina-Portugal ... ARG Netherlands-Mexico ... NED Italy-Australia ... ITA Brazil-USA ... BRA France-Ukraine ... FRA Spain-Switzerland ... SUI last 8 GER-ARG ... Argentina SWE-NED ... Netherlands ITA-FRA ... Italy BRA-SUI ... Brazil semis Argentina-Italy .... ARG Netherlands-Brazil ... BRA FINAL ARGENTINA-BRAZIL and the cup goes to ................. ARGENTINA (to tell you the truth i hope Netherland goes past Brazil but i have lost faith in them the last couple of tournaments .... (Whistling...) )
ilovesumo Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 (edited) To me, each team would be ok except the german one. I don't want them to win because I hate the "king of the world behaviour". The media is embarrassing... Soccer isn't the most important sport on earth, it's Sumo, so (Whistling...) it! Go Paraguay! (Eating...) Edited December 11, 2005 by ilovesumo
Kaiomitsuki Posted December 11, 2005 Author Posted December 11, 2005 and the cup goes to ................. ARGENTINA The only time a team from the american continent wins the World cup in Europe was in 1958 in Sweden... It was Brazil ! I don't believe an american team can win the world cup in Europe next year... So a finale with Brazil and Argentina seems to me IMPOSSIBLE (Whistling...)

Sasanishiki Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I doubt Spain will get very far. They should qualify from their group but will probably then get knocked out. They have a very strong domestic league, but the team always underperforms in big tournaments. I think they lack cohesion. I also don't think Japan and Sth Korea will do as well as last time. They don't have the home crowds, are more known by other teams now, and don't have the same calibre of teams that they had four years ago.
Jesinofuji Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I think team USA is going to pull through and win the world cup behind a 15 goal performance from Freddy Adu!
Mark Buckton Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I think team USA is going to pull through and win the world cup behind a 15 goal performance from Freddy Adu! drunk in charge of a PC again Jes? Not an offence in Taiwan?
sekihiryu Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 (Sleeping...) FWIW Japan will do Ok, they will fight Croatia one would expect for the 2nd spot in their group, they have easybeats Australia in their group who will do worse than NZ did in Spain '82 and get 3 good hidings. could be good opportunity to hide on South east Asian beach for few weeks in June. Back in time fof the July Basho - sumo (Dohyo-iri...)
Taka Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 (edited) Well so many things can still happen. Squads haven't been picked yet but here is an early prediction at least for now. Group A: This group sucks. Poland sucks but will probably go through behind Germany. Group B: Sweden and England could very well draw and if just one of them also draws against Paraguay who aren't bad, one of them could very well miss out. Similar has happened in recent World Cups to very strong Argentina and Spain teams. Still Sweden has a whole new dimension with Ibrahimovic and England just has to go through. I hope they won't though since I can't stand the way they play and will be very dangerous in the knockout phases. Few realize how close they actually were to pulling a "Liverpool" the last time around. Thank god for Brazil. Group C: Argentina and The Netherlands Group D: Portugal and Mexico Group E: Italy and Czech Republic. Tough group though. If it's Italy of the last few major tournaments they could actually miss out but with Lippi at the helm surely not. Group F: Brazil and Australia. A not unlikely upset. Group G: France and South Korea. Will be interesting to watch the game between South Kora and Toga. Group H: Spain and Tunesia. Ukraine aren't that good in my opinion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- last 16 England beats Germany Netherlands beat Mexico Italy beats Australia France beats Tunesia Sweden beats Poland Argentina beats Portugal Brazil beats Czech Republic Spain beats South Korea ---------------------------------- Quater finals: the Netherlands beat England France beats Italy Argentina beats Sweden Brazil beats Spain ------------------------------------ Semi finals France beats The Netherlands Brazil beats Argentina --------------------------------- 3rd Place The Netherlands beat Argentina --------------------------------- Final Brazil beats France -------------------------- Edited December 12, 2005 by Taka
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Granted I have not followed Australian football level ever but is it really a country that has some kind of chance? They play rugby, cricket and hunt kangaroos but do they really play football too for real? I think Australia loses all matches just because it violates my image of the football world that Australia even plays football (Punk rocker...) Togo on the other hand! The shape of the country is immensely interesting and it must have many technically gimmickful players. I root for Togo and Brazil but Brazil is so entertaining that it should go to final to show off skills and freedom of expression with feet. WHat is the henka of football by the way? Did Greece commit a long-standing henka in European championships? No. Is it a henka when a dramatic fall occurs inside the penalty area without a contact to speak of resulting in penalty kick? Was that Columbian goalkeeper a henka himself? Football is cool. Favourite moments of football to me: 1. Perfect freekick that has the eloquance of Satoyama's shitatehineri and Tochiazuma's ottsuke. Volley shots are the best. One needs to use only adequate amount of power and not too much. Eye-foot coordination and all. 2. Body dummy fake move. Scissors is ok too but when the player masters an acceleration fake with small movements, that is cool. It is like Hakuho's step back in controlled fashion when foe pushes his chest with a big push. 3. When referee gives red card to some Bebeto-baby after theater. It is kind of like when henka fails and attacker pushes the momentum-challenged henkaer to 6th row so that it hurts. 4. All masterful first touches of the ball without plural. It has no sumo equivalence.
Sasanishiki Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 I'm not usually one to stick up for Australia, but hey have some decent soccer players at the moment. Their domestic league is not the greatest, but they have a number of good professional players in Europe. I'm still hoping they get handed their arse on a platter and do worse than NZ did in 1982!

Elenrian Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 (edited) Frankly, I don't see France winning that world cup, exept if dom Edited December 18, 2005 by Elenrian
ilovesumo Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Why do they play? Easy, for money. (Eh?) To much of it in the soccer-world if you ask me.
Elenrian Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I meant, why are they selected? They don't play very good, so dom
Jejima Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Using the very scientific BBC thingy I can firmly predict the following.... (Sigh...) Group A: 1. Poland (7 pts) 2. Costa Rica (4 pts) 3. Germany (3 pts) 4. Ecuador (1 pt) Group B: 1. England (7 pts) 2. Sweden (5 pts) 3. Paraguay (4 pts) 4. Trinidad and Tobago (0 pts) Group C: 1. Holland (7 pts) 2. Argentian (6 pts) 3. Serbia and Montenegro (3 pts) 4. Ivory Coast (1 pt) Group D: 1. Mexico (5 pts) 2. Portugal (5 pts) 3. Iran (4 pts) 4. Angola (1 pt) Group E: 1. Czech Republic (7 pts) 2. Italy (7 pts) 3. Switzerland (1 pt) Group H: 1. Ukraine (9 pts) 2. Spain (6 pts) 3. Saudi Arabia (1 pt) 4. Tunisia (1 pt) 16: Sweden beats Poland England beats Costa Rica Portugal beats Holland Mexico beats Argentina Czech Republic beats Australia Italy beats Brazil Spain beats France Ukraine beats South Korea QF: Sweden beats Portugal England beats Mexico Czech Republic beats Spain Ukraine beats Italy SF: Sweden beats Czech Republic England beats Ukraine 3rd place: Czech Republic beats Ukraine F: England beats Sweden Well, the above is very unlikely to happen, but it could (Holiday feeling...) Actually, I'm trying to work out a more 'sumo-games' style game for the World Cup. I have some ideas, and will present it to the rest of the forum if I think I've come up with something that is both fun and challenging ;-)
Sakana Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) Interesting. ;-) Some of members see France winning ? Why not, but I guess not. My idea : Gr. A : Germany - Costa Rica Gr. B : England - Sweden Gr. C : Holland - Argentina Gr. D : Portugal - Mexico Gr. E : Italia - Czech. Gr. F : Brazil - Croatia Gr. G : Switzerland - France Gr. H : Spain - Ukraine 1/8 Germany - Sweden : GER Holland - Mexico : HOL England - CostaRica : ENG Portugal - Argentina : ARG Italia - Croatia : ITA Switzerland - Ukraine : UKR Brazil - Czech : BRA Spain - France : FRA 1/4 Germany - Holland : HOL Italia - Ukraine : ITA England - Argentina : ENG Brazil - France : BRA 1/2 Holland - Italia : ITA England - Brazil : ENG 3rd Holland - Brazil : BRA Final England - Italia : ENG England seems to be the strongest team. Now, it's just a guess... If France really wins, I'll be happy, of course :-P But I agree with Elenrian : our players are old, even if Domenech calls back some young players and experienced... (Gyoji...) But, we must be honest : only players with lots of experience are the oldest : Zidane, Thuram, Makelele, Barthez... My hope is Domenech will see that Sebastien Frey is a good goalkeeper and select him. (I've watched some WC'98 DVD some days ago... in WC'98, we were really strong and lucky, not the same now...) My brother thinks France will wins against Holland. Edited December 28, 2005 by Sakana
Elenrian Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Final England - Italia : ENG England seems to be the strongest team. My hope is Domenech will see that Sebastien Frey is a good goalkeeper and select him. Who is Sabastien Frey?????????? Only J
