i have a ps1 sumo game. its pretty cool- you become an oyakata, and recruit, train, etc rikishi. pretty simple i guess, just takes a lot of time.

i vaguely remember seeing this game in japan. . . not sure though, have never played it, bot the impression, though, that you actually control the rikishi in this one.

I have the game "Sumo" for the old Game Boy, but it's just a jump'n'run. The main character can gain power by collecting Sushi and little Gunbai. Enemys to fight are the Gyoji (Nodding yes...) .

Nice cover!

Even if I couldn't play the game I would buy it.

Edit- Whos that between Takanohana and Chiyotaikai? Kaio?

a much better PS2 sumo game is this official one.

i guess it only plays on japanese playstations or chipped playstations

where can you get it?

why from me of course.

Well, the first game in this thread is Nippon Sumo Kyokai Kounin: Nippon Oozumou Honbasho Gekitouhen

Now, I don't know Japanese, but judging by the fact that both games were made by Konami, it is a sequel to the one that Nishinoshima posted about? The one up top was released in 2002, while the picture Nishinoshima posted has a 2001 copyright.

I would love to have them, if I can find them...

It's not Kaio. To me it looks more like Takanonami, but I'm not sure.

There must be a PC version?!

I play old japanese Sailor Moon /Super Nintendo/ games with my notebook. ;-)

Unfortunately, Playstation 2 games are a bit newer and more demanding than previous console generations-- I know there exist working PS2 emulators, but I'm not sure how well they play most games. However, since this is an early PS2 release (2002), chances are it'll play just fine.

oh my, i MUST have this game....was it established if there is a version for non-japanese PS2's?

There isn't. Japan only, unfortunately. And hard to find, too. None of my normal Importers seem to have it.

(Annoyed...) A little off-topic, but on a recent day-trip to mainland China (I live in Hong Kong), I came across a cheap K1 Playstation 2 Game which I had to buy because one of the characters in it was Akebono (although his image is not one of the half-dozen stars on the front cover.)

When I played as 'Akebono' I managed to defeat some tiny Japanese karate spank-toy in the first round, despite the fact that the Akebono is a big blubbery looking beast, that is very slow to react to the controls. His only saving grace is that he can pack a punch (although his reach is only slightly more than a T-Rex), when he finally reacts - and if his opponent hasn't moved within the previous second. He kicks like a squirrel though.

The game is quite realistic in that he got pounded to oblivion (complete with blood gushing everywhere) in the second round against some European kick-boxer.

After that I did the right thing, and retired (ie stopped playing) K1 as Akebono as it was too embarrassing.

Well

I hope when SONY launch the PlayStation 3, they make a good Sumo Game as this with the best Ozekis and Yokozuna

I never found this game here in Europe

i just got that game on disc last year after playing a buggy emulator version. Just getting to sim through bashos from natsu 2000 on is best about it. As someone who is a cpu vs cpu freak. this works best for me even if my rikishi never become juryu.

i know there are 2 ps 2 versions, one from 01 the other from 02 . I don't know which one matches the sim style that is the psx version.
