He had 22 matches today with Kisenosato and others, and was 16-6.

"My right elbow hurts so I can't do any tsuppari..", he said, looking so-so.

Wasn't it esablished by Ms. Uchidate that he can't do any tsuppari even if his life depended upon it?

Kotooushuu had 9 bouts against his former (and renewed, it seems..) arch-rival Kisenosato. Kisenosato overwhelmed him and was 6-3 against him. Kise injured his left middle finger (...) but said, "I'm OK. Kotooushuu put a lot of pressure on me, but I was able to move forward well today".

Sadogatake Oyakata was not pleased with his No. 1 deshi and shouted " Come on!!! Why aren't you going all out???"

These days when Kotooshu is asked who his main rival is, he will fudge and asnwer, "Everyone", however Kisenosato is one rikishi he will never want to lose (aside from the fact that Kisenosato is lower ranked than him).

There are quite a few rikishis who see Kisenosato to be his main rival. Ama always considered Kisenosato to be his chief rival (he still calls him, "Hagiwara").

In Vegas, Kisenosato was the only Hiramaku to be called in for a post-tournament interview. He said one of his goals for the Kyushu was to be competitive against Ozekis. As he is now ranked high enough to face them, we can see how much he had improved in the last couple of bashos. I can see Kisenosato overtaking Wakanosato as the leading man at Naruto in near future, perhaps in a year he may be an Ozeki already.

Anyway the bout between him and Kotooshu in the Kyushu should be the one not to be missed.

It is good to see this rivalry renewed. They sure were good rivals before Kotooshu ran away from Kisenosato but now it is possible that Kisenosato will establish himself high enough to face Osh more often again. Surely Kisenosato may suffer many defeats this time but the "notch up a gear"-phenomenon I have been loyally preaching appears to have happened now with Kise no matter how well he does in Kyushu unless he collapses totally which is highly unlikely and would sadden me greatly.

I made a mistake in my earlier post- Osh was 6-3 against Kisenosato, and not the other way around. After Kise won bout 5 by tsukiotoshi, he gave Osh an extra shove, which pissed Osh off mightily. In the next bout, he got his revenge with a mighty sotogake. "My hand already touched the ground, yet he pushed me. I don't get it.. ", complained Kotooushuu. "He's in good shape, huh? I'm not too shabby either", said Kisenosato. The rivalry seems to be rekindled.

Is Kotooshu getting a little tired and/or cwanky?

Translated from nikkansports online (link below in Japanese). As always, this is in no way exact, and if anyone wants to correct me go ahead. This is just a fun way for me to study Japanese.

32 training matches, Kotooshu feeling tired?

November 4th, Sekiwake Kotooshu had 32 practices bouts with visiting Wakanosato, Yokozuna Asashoru, and others.

As for the outcome of the bouts, Kotooshu had 19 victories and 13 defeats, but against Asashoryu, he was lifted up and thrown down (Tsuriotoshi) among other techniques, loosing all 7 matches.

It was actually Kisenosato and not Wakanosato, but other than that, spot on!!

More on the keiko two days ago. Asa came along, and gestured to for the first bout. Osh reluctantly entered the ring-lost by quickly by a left sukuinage. Then he stood on the side for the next 5 matches, whereupon he was called out again by Asa. Sukuinage, yorikiri, yorikiri. He looked like a frog ensnared by a snake's look - he put up nearly no resistance. "Doing keiko with the Yokozuna, I can't do any good keiko myself..", he said. "I was told by the Yokozuna he'd be visiting us today at yesterday's rikishi-kai." It seems the timing was the worst possible for Osh, who injured his right elbow on the last day of jungyo in a bout against Kotomitsuki. It wasn't close to healing. "I think the shisho wouldn't be too happy if I went kyujo after aggravating the injury." With all eyes on him this coming basho, he wants to keep healthy and not take any chances. This basho not only the local media , but the world media is keeping an eye on him as well, as can be learned from the numerous interviews he gave to foreign publications.

But Sadogatake was not impressed. "Yes, sure, he's tired, but he still sleeps the same amount of hours as usual. In my days, we used to do keiko from early morning till way past noon. Rikishi making noise was music to our ears!!", he explained.

Can Kotooushuu take these words to heart??

Today -only 16 bouts with Kisenosato, Rohou and others. Elbow pain is still worrying, cannot do any tsuppari.. "I'm tired", he said.

Today, neither the Oyakata nor Asashouryuu showed up for keiko at Sadogatake. The person in charge today was the master himself, ex- Dai-yokozuna Taihou, Mr. Naya. Osh had 16 bouts against Kisenosato, Rohou and others and was 12-4. "If you're going for the mawashi, step forward more! Don't take your eyes off your opponent!!", bellowed Naya-san at Osh. "He has a great physique. He needs a bit more. If he can train his body some more, he will make Ozeki for sure. But he should not rest on his laurels. He should strive for the very top", said Naya-san.

"I have already been guided by him in Tokyo in the past..", said a wide eyed Kotooushuu.

Then he goes on about which ramen he likes best, and that he prefers the food carts over the established shops.

Well, he mentions Tonkotsu ramen, "because the smell is good"..

"I had my best keiko today!!", said Osh. He even used tsuppari for the first time since injuring his right elbow, which seems to be healing. "He did serious keiko today", agreed Sadogatake Oyakata. No results or anything.

A lot of action at Sadogatake today - Osh had fierce keiko with Kotomitsuki, Kotoshoogiku and others- 17 matches, 12-5. "I am very content with what I have seen. He has gotten stronger", said Sadogatake Oyakata about Kotooushuu. "His best keiko yet!!". "I did good keiko", agreed Osh. Right elbow seems to be healing well indeed.

Everyone is saying that it's "Chiba time" now. Lotte won the baseball pennant, Chiba won the Nabisco Cup in soccer (Bulgarian Stoyanow plays there)- Chiba is on fire in the sporting world. Chiba is of course where Sadogatake beya is located. "Well, so is Naruto (heya of Osh's rival Kisenosato).." quipped Kotooushuu, amid a great round of laughter.

At first, Kotooushuu planned to visit Takasago for degeiko at the behest of his Oyakata, but then Oyakata changed his mind. "Well, I don't really know the Yokozuna's plans, and for all we know, he may be resting.." explained Sadogatake.

Today, he was 16-4 against Kotomitsuki, Kotoshougiku, Katayama and others. His right elbow has no pain now, and today he could even go for a migi-sashi. "I couldn't do it till now because of the pain. It still hurts a little bit", he explained, smiling heavily after keiko. Sadogatake Oyakata, who was worried lately, seemed pleased as well. "He's getting better every day. His feet were firmly planted, and he wasn't being thrown at all!!"

Today he went 17-8 against Kokkai and others but got thundering critizism from Sadogatake-oyakata who was annoyed by Kotooshu giving up too easily some bouts and having too big difference between a good bout and a bad one. Kotooshu took the scolding by dropping his chin towards his without a doubt female-alluring chest and mumbled something about being tired.....

Kokkai was not asked any comments which was tragic and unfortunate.

Today, against Kotomitsuki, Kotoshougiku, Kokkai and others- 15 bouts, no results. "I want the basho to be over soon.. I'm waiting for the day after senshuraku for relief..", he semi-joked after keiko.

Kotooushuu had 15 bouts today- 13-2, against Kotomitsuki and Kotoshougiku. "I have a cold and my throat hurts a bit", said Osh, suffering from the day and night temperature difference. "If you get a shot at the yusho, will you go for it?", asked an intelligent reporter. "Yes", answered a polite Osh. Doh..

There was a strange occurence after his 7th bout. He had a coughing fit. Then, he was beaten in a match with Kokkai. He took 5 minutes off, and returned for a bout with Kotoshougiku. As soon as they started, he stopped and ran off the dohyo, spitting out some phlegm. The reporter hopes this won't hamper his Ozeki drive.

"He's doing good keiko", said Sadogatake of Kotooushuu with much admiration. At home again, with Kotomitsuki and Kotoshougiku (again..)- 14 bouts, no results given. He had especially rough sessions with co-Sekiwake Kotomitsuki. He was seen almost losing but persevering and turning the tables on Kotomitsuki. "I did good keiko. I am in good condition", agreed the Bulgarian Ozeki candidate.

After keiko, it was 300 "tegata pressing" time.

Man, is it just me or are the keiko reports for Kotooshu all over the place? (In a state of confusion...) First his elbow hurts, then he's doing good, then he's coughing up nasty lugeys, then he's better again. :-S I want the guy to do well, but he's driving me crazy, or maybe I should say the Japanese media is driving me crazy.....

It seems he's driving the Japanese media crazy, with his good looks, youth and Ozeki candidacy..
