Jonosuke Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) Rikishi Talk Day 8 ============ Kyokutenho 6-2 (over Kakizoe by yorikiri) --------------------------------------------------- (Was pushed to the edge by small soldier Kakizoe but reversed him around and got the win) "I was really pressed hard there but I had my feet firmly inside. I failed at tachiai as the target was smaller so it was more difficult to hit harder." Tamanoshima 6-2 (over Kotoshogiku by yorikiri) ------------------------------------------------------ "Around on Day 2 and Day 3, I felt I was getting tired but now at this point I am getting the second wind so I am feeling much better." Kotoshogiku 5-3 (losing to Tamanoshima) --------------------------------------------- "I regret losing by backing down." Ama 6-2 (over Takekaze by yoritaoshi) -------------------------------------------- (Finding a way to win while being attacked hard) "Everyone was cheering for me and was applauding. I can hear their clappings even when I am competing on the dohyo. I feel as if they are supporting me from behind. They are givinig me more power." Takekaze 3-5 (losing to Ama) ---------------------------------- (Could not finish him off ) "I put out everything I had but more than my offensive power, his defensive power was superior." Tochinonada 3-5 (losing to Shimotori by yorikiri) ------------------------------------------------------- "Real bad. I don't know what I am doing at all." (Any idea for a good comeback?) "If I knew that, I'd have done it long ago." Kotonowaka 6-2 (over Tokitsuumi by yorikiri) ---------------------------------------------------- "I am moving well and I can get into my sumo. Everyone at the heya is doing so well so I figure I might as well join in the fun." Tokitsuumi 2-6 (losing to Kotonowaka) ------------------------------------------- (Facing Kotonowaka) "I felt he was much bigger than before. At one time I thought he shrank but he is huge now." Asashoryu 7-1 (over Iwakiyama by kubinage) ---------------------------------------------------- (Pushed off by Iwakiyama's powerful attack from tachiai but managing a win by executing a neck throw) "I got kind of surprised out of the tachiai but I didn't panic and kept myself calm. It wasn't a good sumo. I have to hit him much harder. I feel I am about 60%." Iwakiyama 4-4 (losing to Asashoryu) ------------------------------------------ "This morning the shisho suggested that I'd try to get my right in after a hard push. I was thinking about my right all the time but I also ended up having the left as well. I should have waited for a second or so." Kisenosato 7-1 (over Hakurozan by yorikiri) -------------------------------------------------- (Still keeping one loss record) "I tried to keep myself low even at the edge and stayed on offensive. I am aware that he possesses good power, so I tried not let him get my mawashi. I figured he would come out slapping, so I was ready to keep myself calm. We've only completed the half. I will be focusing one bout at a time." Futeno 2-6 (losing to Miyabiyama by tsukiotoshi) ------------------------------------------------------ (Sixth straight loss) "Ah...I've already lost six bouts. Sumo is so hard." Chiyotaikai 5-3 (over Kotomitsuki by oshidashi) ------------------------------------------------------- (Five wins at the mid-way point) "I guess it's the minimum acceptable standard at this point. In the last half I want to be more creative not giving any opporutnity for my oppornent to get the mawashi." Takamisakari 3-5 (over Tochiazuma by sukuinage) --------------------------------------------------------- (A last second win by sukuinage at the dohyo edge) "I can't believe it. I was prepared for the loss. But I did not want to concede and tried to struggle as much as I could." Tochiazuma 6-2 (losing to Takamisakari) --------------------------------------------- (Losing to Takamisakari, suffering his second loss) "I went after him with my body all raised up. It's like he kind of floats around so I felt like I was tricked in to just followd him. It was as if I went exactly the way he wanted to. A loss is a loss, what can I say. It was an error in my strategy.." Kyokushuzan 4-4 (losing to Kotooshu by yorikiri) ---------------------------------------------------------- (On Kotooshu) "He is coming out so quickly out of tachiai. He definitely got stronger than the last basho." Kotooshu 8-0 (over Kyokushuzan) ------------------------------------- (8th straight wins since Day 1 and getting Kachikoshi. As a new Sekiwake, only Taiho and Chiyonofuji won 8 bouts in a row from Day 1 since the 1949 Natsu Basho when the current 15 day basho was instituted. Both yokozunas won their first yusho the following basho and went on to become Ozeki). "I had my best sumo this basho. I wasn't sure at all how he would come out of the tachiai. I am really happy as I joined the yokozunas in the record. How I do from Jonokuchi to Ozeki will not matter much to me but I am aware that something will remain in the record book such as quickest Juryo promotion (fourth) and Sanyaku debut (tying the first). Oh, Tochiazuma lost his bout today. I will be doing my best tomorrow too." Kokonoe oyakata (former Yokozuna Chiyonofuji) ---------------------------------------------------- (On Kotooshu's record) "I remember back then I was really happy every day. I was getting Kensho money and the papers were reporting about me a lot. When you are coming on strong, I imagine you want to come back and compete as quickly as possible. But I don't think he will go all the way as it is though." Kitanoumi oyakata --------------------- (On Kotooshu) "I am impressed that he came this far without losing any bout. But it's from now on that we will see how he can handle the pressure." Sasanishiki Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I'll move the lower part over to the Amasumo sub topic, and it is RIE Tsuihiji.
Kintamayama Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Kotooshu 8-0 (over Kyokushuzan)------------------------------------- (8th straight wins since Day 1 and getting Kachikoshi. Coward my eye. 9 straight, and in the face of all his criticizers. Nobody at these heights wins 9 by luck. Not even Ama, who hasn't begun to dream of these heights.. He is starting to look seriously good. Ozeki-like. I like Iwakiyama and wanted him to win, but Kotooshu was just too good.
