Fujisan suggested I introduce myself over here. I have been a lurker here for a little while. I usually don't post too often. I mainly use this forum as a resource to gather information. I really enjoy the various translations people post. Thank you for taking the time to translate stuff for other people.

I currently live in Japan about an hour out of Tokyo near Tachikawa. I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky. For a while I saw sumo on TV. I really became interested and fell in love with the sport after I went to the Natsu-basho of this year. Now I watch sumo on TV when I can and I plan on going to the current tournament. I have read a few books on sumo and know most general information. This forum helps me stay on current events and covers topics you can not find in books. This will be a very good resource when I leave Japan.

I have a couple favorite rikishi, but currently I am a "mainstream" fan because I am so new to the sport. You will notice that listed under my "Favorite Rikishi" I put: not Asashoryu. I might as well explain this. I think Asa is an excellent and truly amazing athlete. He can pull off some very amazing athletic feats. He is a fierce fighter full of spirit. He is a legend in the making. I am just not a fan of his attitude and how he handles some things, but I deeply respect his skill and ability. I don't want to open a can of worms here. I am just giving my honest opinion.

I don't have a shikona. I didn't really think of one when I made this account. The name I chose is a pretty common name I use. I used to have Cyrus, but usually that is taken so I started using SonofCyrus because that name is the "son" of the original.

Thanks for what you all do to make this a cool forum.

Welcome!

I think that can of worms has been opened a long time ago, so don't worry. Well, some like Asashoryu, some not so much. But I am sure that everyone respects and acknowledges his supreme ability on the dohyo.

For the time being, it is only natural that there are some extra cheers when Asashoryu loses, since he is the only yokozuna and a very dominant one at that.

(Welcome...) SonofCyrus - can we can you SOC? (West wins...)

this forum is great aint it? glad you like it.

Asashoryu sure is contentious, I stick by him as I marked him as my man in 2000. These days however my favorite status has migrated to another Mongolian - Ama.

Living in japan sure is the place to be for sumo (Sign of approval)

That will work or SoC.

I like to cheer for Ama. He feels like an underdog to me most of the time because of his size.
