Of course I'm not saying that Futeno has no chance in general against Kotooshu or anyone.

(Hugging...) Sorry I've just got the wrong end of the stick. (Help me...)

I'm just happy that Osh and Miya managed to have a bout without henka yesterday.  :-O  (Blushing...)

I was nearly anticipating a double henka, followed by 3 minutes of brushing hands and slapping to the side while running after each other around the edge.

Seriously, though :-P

this is all going to catch up to Kotooshu. He's pretty slippery for a tall guy, and he has some decent skills. But sooner or later, all the others are going to catch on, and he's going to get a big eye opener.

For some reason, I am thinking of that time when Takekaze caught Hayateumi in midair, and embarassed him a little. By the end of this basho, and certainly into the next, Kotooshu's little backpedalling and slappy handbags game is going to get him in a lot of trouble, and maybe hurt. If he does that to Asashoryu, the yokozuna will beating him like he's Takamisakari in between basho's.

Just my two cents

Since you are so interested in numbers, here is my very personal number for Kotooshu's winning chance against Futeno (before the bout): 0.651.

I would like to know where that number comes from. Is this a quote from a sumo game or do you have your own model ?

Or a you just psychic ? :-O

Yes and no. See what happened to Kotooshu against Kyokutenho. Kyokutenho's tachiai is very high, so it was not possible to play the splippery thing. Fight was nearly lost for Kotooshu, but it was not lost. So I just would say that things will get much more difficult for Kotooshu when the others will catch up with his style, but not necessarily impossible.

If I were a psychic, my personal number wouldn't be between 0 and 1. (Applauding...)

I have my own simple model, as Asashosakari has pointed out, but to get that very personal number this model is a bit refined. Or messed up as the case may well be.

As I said before  (Yusho winner...)

Mike Wesemann is true to his style.

Since only sound, professional journalism abounds at Sumotalk.com, we like to keep things impartial if at all possible, but I am openly rooting against Kotooshu the rest of this basho. I hope he gets his ass kicked the rest of the way, and you can print it complete with my middle finger raised.

Snigger ... at least Mike has a healthy dose of self-irony. (Applauding...)

7 straight days-Osh moves to the side. 7 straight days, his opponents let him do it and pay. So, who's "fault" is it? Ama of course, since he never henkas.. I really don't buy the "coward" bit. He's at Sekiwake for the first time, for Pete's sake. He needs to win. Some people here make it seem that the minute you side-step, you magically win the match. I suggest they go watch his bouts. In some of them he's really good, in others just plain lucky. He's not the Yokozuna, yet. He's the shin-Sekiwake. Others on their way up were cut a whole lot of slack, as in "give him time".. I put it that if he were Japanese, we wouldn't be debating this.

Gaijin paranoia. Again.

BTW, I will take a risk and guess he will not win more than 11.

Unfortunately one of the dominating triumvirate pulled out of the basho today, so even if Chiyotaikai prevails, 12-3 is still very likely.

Give up Shimpu... (Eating...) Don't be insolent. Kotooshu won. Why can't you accept it as Osh's opponents did?

Seriously...

You insult me with that line last basho by calling me insolent when I expressed my opinion on Kokkai's so-called "win" over Asashoryu... then you have the unmittigated gaul to come on to this thread and do the same damn thing, bitching and moaning about the quality of Kotooshu's wins. I've got three words for you Shimp: POT-KETTLE-BLACK!!

Sorry mods, you can give me a warning if you like, but this guy deserved some of his own medicine... ;-)

Yes, there is something annoying about mission posters, isn't there.

Anyway, those unhappy with Osh's opponents continually falling (no pun intended) for his sidesteps may look forward to tomorrow's bout. Shuzan's the kind of guy who isn't easily tricked by that.

(Eating...) ok ladyboy... but there is a little different. This is not a single bout... This is streak of pitiful sumo... (Applauding...) BTW Please do not stop with Kensho raport as you did last time... ;-) I know you are thinskinned guy (?) but basho just started... ;-)

I'm one not impressed with his first few days but today (day 9) wasn't too bad. Still - hasn't had the 'hard' fights yet as someone said to me at the KKgikan yesterday

Just a few months ago, all of his fights against the guys he beat were considered "hard fights". The fact that people think the nine guys he beat so far

(Kokkai

Hakuho

Kyokutenho

Kakizoe

Miyabiyama

Futeno

Dejima

Kyokushuzan

Iwakiyama)

are "easy" for him speaks volumes of how strong he has become.

Look at the list-all regular sanyaku/joijin. Who's left? Asa, Azuma and half a Taikai...

You can like him or dislike him, but he is the first guy in history who goes 9-0 in his shin-Sekiwake basho. Not even the greatest of the greatest achieved that, "eloquant sidesteps" notwithstanding.

The guy deserves far more credit that he is given in our esteemed forum..

He has indeed become very strong, and he is on a roll.

the only serious competetion that i fhink he could lose from are Asa and Zuma.

my guess is that he will have the yusho if he can beat Asa. otherwise there will be a playoff which i think he will lose.

he is doing great so far.
