Kakizoe was clearly pulling Futeno by hair, is this allowed?

Additionally, is any kind of hooking (ear, mouth, nose) allowed? (In a state of confusion...)

I didn't see that, so it can't have been so 'clearly'. Of course it's not allowed and leads to disqualification.

The following fouls result in the loss of a match due to disqualification:

- striking the opponent with a closed fist

- grabbing the opponent's hair

- jabbing at the opponent's eyes or solar plexus

- palm striking both of the opponent's ears at the same time

- grabbing or pulling at the opponent's groin area

- grabbing the opponent's throat

- kicking at the opponent's chest or waist

- bending back one or more of the opponent's fingers

- attacking the opponent with a sword or a knife... or a shotgun

For those who dit not see it clearly... Please feel free to zoom in. For my money Kakizoe's left hand was guilty of offence.

Ooops, a perfect occasion to use the blind gyoji smiley: (In a state of confusion...)

That was really quite obvious!

Why, do you think Futeno would have been happier with a hansoku win? I'm sure the shimpan would have declared Futeno the winner (or even the gyoji might have) if Kakizoe had actually "won" the bout. I'm perfectly fine with them letting the rikishi finish the bout first to see if the disadvantaged guy wins it anyway.

The infamous Asashoryu vs Kyokushuzan match in 2003 comes immediately to mind here where our honourable Yokozuna became the first Yokozuna ever to be disqualified when he got a little naughty in seeking revenge for a loss at the previous basho. (In a state of confusion...)

I'm sure you're right here. Besides anything it is so much better for ozumo.

From how I saw it, it looked as though Kakizoe's fingers were caught up in Futenou's mage (OK, I'm giving him the benefit of doubt), as he was falling back from the dohyo... (Oops! ) As he fell, there was no letting go. :'-( I really don't think it was intentional.(Pulling hair...) It was very obvious, so may be there will be a mention from his Oyakata about it, but I'm sure there will not be any severe punishment from that (Order, order! ), espcially in the light that he lost, anyway. (I surrender...)

I dont feel in a position to criticise Kakizoe but Futeno looked more like Hakurozan in his match today-Or was it just me? (Pulling hair...)

Not pulling like Hakurozan, but curiously passive - very unlike the first two days.

At the current rate of hair loss, Hakurozan has only about two more basho before he will be very worried about having a mage that can be pulled.

Is pulling of chest hairs considered hansoku? Nose hairs? Knuckle hairs?

(Pulling hair...) I suppose that would be more of problem for some rikishi (I surrender...) than others.

I don't think any hair-pulling is intentional, as it means an immediate loss. Unlike some other sports, you can't easily get away with breaking the rules in sumo.

(Enjoyable TV program...)

Sorry Shomishu but you missed the joke-I was referring to Hakurozans hair or lack of it not his technique.
